Taco Charlton, Cowboys - https://www.bloggingtheboys.com/2017/8/6/16103848/reviewing-dallas-cowboys-rookie-taco-charltons-hall-of-fame-game-performance Much has been made of his unimpressive debut. He had 16 snaps, 8 runs, 8 passes, and 1 of the passes was a screen, and 1 he dropped into coverage. So in 6 pass rush attempts, he generated no QB pressures and Cowboys fans lost their minds. Blogging the Boys (link provided) broke down his good and bad plays, and shows that the world isn’t over for a rookie in his first ever NFL action. IN his second start he but he rebounded with a sack, three tackles, a tackle for loss and a quarterback hurry in the first quarter alone of a 13-10 win over the Los Angeles Rams.
Baltimore Ravens: Rookie DE Chris Wormley notched one tackle for loss and rookie punter Kenny Allen kicked three times for a 47.3-yard average (long of 57), dropped one punt inside the 20 in a 23-3 win over Washington.
From the Baltimore Sun:
Rookie third-round defensive end Chris Wormley has had a relatively quiet training camp, but he blew up a running play early in Monday’s workout. He got inside his blocker, shot the gap and touched down Buck Allen before the running back had a chance to reach the line of scrimmage.
Cincinnati Bengals: Rookie defensive tackle Ryan Glasgow notched one tackle in a 23-12 win over Tampa Bay.
Cleveland Browns: Rookie Jabrill Peppers notched one punt return for 13 yards on three opportunities and one kick return for 27 yards. He took 16 snaps at safety, four on special teams. Rookie corner Channing Sribling played only on special teams.
Denver Broncos: Jake Butt is still recovering from ACL surgery, but rookie safety Dymonte Thomas notched two solo tackles in a 24-17 win over Chicago.
Detroit Lions: Graham Glasgow played a lot about both guard and center in a 24-10 win at Indianapolis.
Houston: Rookie Matt Godin notched two tackles (one solo) on 16 snaps in a 27-17 loss to Carolina.
Jacksonville: Chad Henne, the Jaguars' backup, went 5-for-6 for 139 yards and a score in a 31-24 win over New England.
Kansas City: Rookie Jehu Chesson returned three kicks 78 yards (26-yard avg., long of 39) and was targeted only once during 13 snaps in a 27-17 loss to San Francisco.
Miami: Rookie De'Veon Smith notched 12 yards on 7 carries with a long of five yards on 10 total snaps in a 23-20 win over Atlanta.
Minnesota: Rookie linebacker Ben Gedeon notched six tackles, five solo, on 32 snaps (plus 12 on special teams) in a 17-10 win over Buffalo. The coaches have called him a 'very instinctive football player' and like what he brings to the table both at MLB and OLB.
“He’s playing both right now, and a lot of those guys are kind of playing different spots,” head coach Mike Zimmer said. “I thought he had a good day [Tuesday]. He’s a guy that finds the football, he’s getting physical off of blocks, he did a good job of coverage yesterday – which, that will be the thing he’s going to have to work on, because it’s a little different being outside than it is inside.”
Pittsburgh: RB Fitz Toussaint carried six times for 19 yards in a 20-12 win over the Giants.
San Francisco: Rookie Erik Magnuson saw 41 snaps in a 27-17 win over Kansas City.
Seattle: Rookie safety Delano Hill notched one tackle in a 48-17 win over the Los Angeles Chargers. Had a "slight, nagging thing" that kept him out of practice last week. By all accounts, it was not a wife.
Washington: Rookie guard Kyle Kalis took 25 snaps in a 23-3 loss to Baltimore.
Frank Clark, Seahawks – dealing with an MCL issue, has been out of practice for 4 days so far. Also disciplined because of his fight. His twitter response: “The discipline was surely MORE than just me missing an opportunity to get better but I deserved it.”

I can't believe Chad Henne is still in the league. It must be tough as a competitor but backup QB is a cushy career if you can make it last as long as he has.

He's not exactly backing up a future HOF member in Jacksonville right now but they like him enough to sign him to reasonably long contracts. He's an ideal backup, good enough to start and play competently in a couple of games if the #1 guy goes down, but nobody anywhere thinks he should be leading a team long-term. Which is fine, not everybody can.

Ruddddddddddock in the Lions column is inexcusable. Probably the most impressive preseason showing thus far.
13/21, 142 yds, 2 TDs, 0 INT
2 carries for 24 yds
Extremely solid backup. Huge improvement over Orlovzky.

Is there actually anything to this swell of griping from Dallas about Charlton? I get the impression that the fanbase just kind of has its mind set against him and is seizing on vague camp reports, rather than actual evidence. His worth will be proven or disproven in the regular season.

I was very happy they took Taco however alot of the fanbase was wanting DB first then DE. When the Cowboys went DE first alot of people were wanting Watt who was drafted after Taco. Those folks will be keeping up with Watt this year and probably his whole career just to campare him to Taco's career. Plus he was a high 20's draft pick. Folks are expecting him to play like a top 10 player.

a lot of it seems to be "there were better DE's on the board" or "he wasn't that impressive in college, except his senior season" or "his combine numbers were not great and we needed...." He has aquitted himself well though, even if he's going against an all-pro LT in practice everyday.

So he landed on a team after all? Sounds like he's doing well to be playing that much.
August 15th, 2017 at 3:09 PM ^
he's fighting to secure the roster spot. Playing a lot means that the coaches and NFL personnell are evaluating him. 3rd/4th string players played the majority of the snaps on 1st game of preseason.

Baffling!

he allowed pressure and missed some blocks. He's still slated to start at LG but it's not an encouraging sign that he's struggled.

for Joe Kerridge?
