Why all the shouting?
It's Saturday morning. I really wanted to sleep in for a bit longer. Thanks a lot!

Arsenal Leicester already happened. I keep waiting for the moment when Mahrez changes his clothes in a phone booth and becomes superman again. Preferably against the likes of City or Chelsea.

Liverpool desperately seeking some creativity in the midfield with Coutinho out. Going to be a looooong season if they sell him in this window.

Liverpool need a center back as well. But, half time adjustments seem to have served them well.

Love me some EPL. My Man City squad is looking pretty good this year.
Although, I know I may be the only one, by I am actually a bigger fan of MLS. I know, I know, not nearly as high a level of play, but my son and I have become huge fans of NYCFC. Either way, soccer is just about the only thing keeping me going for the next 3 weeks until Michigan football opens.

City fan here too. Love the additions to the squad. Hope we can take our chances this year. Last year it was a bad problem. We can destroy teams this year with this squad. Kompany has to stay healthy or we are in trouble. I can't believe Chelsea was so bad today.

I imagine it will be another middle of the table season for my Potters.

Liverpool and their set-piece issues. Why tf can't Klopp fix that?

You guys should try "zonal marking."

just any old kind of marking

Instead of watching only Gameday in the mornings in the fall , I love flipping back and forth between EPL games before college football games starts while sipping on a Breakfast Stout . Go Chelsea!

I have connected the two. It used to be when I saw leaves changing colors, that is what signaled football for me. Now, it's when the EPL starts.

I love EPL, but I have a really, really minor question. On the SB Liverpool page, this is the first sentence of the most recent post:
"Liverpool Football are back. The Premier League is back."
In the States, we would write: "Liverpool Football is back. The Premier League is back."
Is this one of those things like calling uniforms "kits" and shoes "boots"?
August 12th, 2017 at 10:58 AM ^
League = “it”
August 13th, 2017 at 2:06 PM ^
in American English, "team" is generally considered a singular subject, which isn't incorrect as we consider the collection of players a singular entity. So here we say the team is back.
In British English, "team" is considered a plural subject, which also isn't incorrect if one considers the team a group of individuals, i.e. they. So using their grammar conventions, one would say the team are back.
If you watch about 10 minutes of soccer coverage from Europe (in which most countries even if ESL tend to use the British English style) you pick up immediately that they do it differently than us.
Either way is correct.

EPL is what my wife and I call El Pollo Loco. I thought maybe one was coming to Michigan lol.
August 12th, 2017 at 10:38 AM ^
I love being a Liverpool fan and hate it at the same time. it's going to be a long season.
August 12th, 2017 at 10:42 AM ^
Ditto! But an away draw isn't bad.
August 12th, 2017 at 11:14 AM ^
Same habits as last season after one match. And Coutinho's request could have been timed better. Asking for a transfer through the press only hurts your chances. I'd hang on to him for a while unless Barca sprays their money cannon our way.

I love that Sissoko is likely to start for Spurs tomorrow due to so many injuries. May he get everything that he deserves.
Hoping for a strong showing tomorrow. Viva la Rafalution!

I'm a bit disheartened that they haven't snagged a single striker yet because Rafa apparently can't stand Mitrovic and Gayle is still not fit. Hoping for the best though but I still think they'll be fighting for a mid table spot.
August 12th, 2017 at 6:35 PM ^
I'll take whatever I can get!

Burnley just wrecking Chelsea, that's quite the surprise.

Going with the Hammers this year, for obscure reasons. I'd upvote if I weren't on the app

Zabaleta and hart on west ham this year, I will pull for them as long as they aren't playing Man City. I would love to see the upset united tomorrow

Goodison was rocking today. Loved seeing Rooney head it home.
At a very basic level, we can all agree: Blue > Red.

Great start of the season for Wayne Rooney and the Toffees! Happy to have EPL back.

I was a bit dismayed in reading through the first few comments. So tired of seeing Citeh, Chelski, and so forth. I mean, it's not like any of us grew up in the area following those clubs. No, we adopted them, and like most sheep, Americans tended to flock to the ones perennially at the top of the table. I was much encouraged to see other clubs' supporters speaking up later on though. Enjoy the games, let's all laugh at Chelsea, and Howay the Lads!
August 12th, 2017 at 6:45 PM ^
Cheer for who you want to cheer for. I've been a City fan since I started watching soccer 15 years ago. We were shit then, but they were my team. Now we have loads of money, but are putting together a team that will be together for years. I love what the new owners have done for the club and my fandom is much stronger than cheering for the latest winners or favorites. Don't make assumptions on why people like certain teams. Plus why hate on city?? We will be playing the most attractive style of soccer this year.

MUFC absolutely spanked West Ham. Lukaku with two goals, Martial and Pogba with one each.
