Harbaugh: Speight and O'Korn have separated themselves, battling for QB1

It's not O'Korn.

Thus endeth the bromance. No children were involved. No pre-nup. Give the lads their dignity.

No mention of Peters? O'Korn looked lost vs. Indiana...
August 11th, 2017 at 8:34 PM ^
Paraphrasing from someone else's paraphrase:
"Says that Peters is working hard and competing well, says the two QBs (Wilton and John) have done well to set themselves apart."
Peters clearly has the tools. The knock on him has been his lack of vocal leadership, and ability to command the team. Maybe he's been struggling there.

We're reading way too much into a couple of isolated statements about his command of the team.
It doesn't mean he's not vocal enough or that he's struggling, necessarily, just that he's not there yet. In my opinion "command of the team" means specifically the ability to know the playbook and where everyone needs to be confidently. That is certainly something Speight has seemed to do well under Harbaugh, and the fact that Peters does not have that attribute at Speight's level right now does not mean that he is deficient.
August 12th, 2017 at 12:03 AM ^
Didn't say he's deficient, just that he might be struggling with that aspect.
If he had the command, poise, and leadership that Speight has I'm fairly certain he would be the starter. He's clarly more physically gifted.

It was more than the wind. His footwork was awful, his mechanics were brutal, he was taking like 11 step drops on random throws. Obviously, the wind and layoff don't help, but he looked like he had no business on a college field.
If the competition is down to Speight and O'Korn, the QB competition is over.

Oh really?

So in the UFR when Brian mentions "horrendous case of happy feet", and says he "looks like a rookie Madden player" and blames the majority of the offensive struggles on him.........that's just a "hot take"?

Be civil. Let's not bring animated Warner Bros. films about penguins into this.

Someone get Peters a megaphone.

We can put them away, but they have a way of emerging at the riskiest times, married or not.
August 12th, 2017 at 9:49 AM ^
And here I thought that meant I could whip my Peter out whenever I want....Oh how wrong I was.
August 12th, 2017 at 11:24 AM ^
Oh no, once you get married, your Peters get ignored almost entirely. As far as I can tell, wives do it out of Speight, and over time, the poor thing shrivels up like a dried O'Korn.

I think you let guys be themselves. They had to know he was a quiet kid when they recruited him. I know it's nice to have an outspoken QB because he's the one calling the plays. But, if a guy tends to be more quiet, reserved, and introverted I don't think you need to force him to be someone he's not. Let the kid make the calls, make the plays, and let someone else be the vocal leader. As long as someone in that huddle can be vocal I don't think it has to be the QB.

Hoping a relatively unknown commodity is some sort of phenom isn't hate. Maybe not realistic though.

some problems he had with the deep ball and his drop off at the end of the year (as well as speculation that it was due to injury).
The second string quarterback is always the better quarterback, you know that.
August 12th, 2017 at 8:38 AM ^
Good point, and I also suspect it's O'Korn getting his due. When it is truly time for qb's to get game experience not at the expense of game outcome, it is going to Peters who comes in I bet.

Alright fess up. Did you make this several days ago and lurk the board waiting for the next mention of Speight so you could post this?

The question is rhetorical.

Speight will go from pretty good to great this season. Book it.

August 11th, 2017 at 8:38 PM ^
...but on the other hand, until 5 minutes ago everyone was saying that Speight and Peters were the top 2 and O'Korn a distant 3rd.
Sometimes what we all know to be true turns out to be...not true.
August 12th, 2017 at 7:18 PM ^
I said it on here a few times that one of our defensive big guns told me a while ago that he thought Peters was in 3rd place even though he was playing well. That was during summer workouts, so 3rd place going into fall camp and he hasn't caught up yet, not a great surprise.
Also, in recent interviews Harbaugh and Drevno have said command means knowing every play and what every player does on every play and, having total command of that and knowing what to do at all times and how to react to things and how to remind guys what they need to do, get them lined up or re-positioned, be a leader, get them in and out of the huddle and that sort of thing.
