"Says that Peters is working hard and competing well, says the two QBs (Wilton and John) have done well to set themselves apart."

Peters clearly has the tools. The knock on him has been his lack of vocal leadership, and ability to command the team. Maybe he's been struggling there.

We're reading way too much into a couple of isolated statements about his command of the team. 

It doesn't mean he's not vocal enough or that he's struggling, necessarily, just that he's not there yet. In my opinion "command of the team" means specifically the ability to know the playbook and where everyone needs to be confidently. That is certainly something Speight has seemed to do well under Harbaugh, and the fact that Peters does not have that attribute at Speight's level right now does not mean that he is deficient.

I've seen many people comment on okorns apparent poor play during the Indiana game. It did look ugly, but that was one of the games I was able to make it to last season and the weather was such that it will probably go down as my favorite live game experience. i love the snow, and i love watching football being played in the snow. That being said, I can't imagine how difficult it would have been to step into that field for your first career start at Michigan. It had been switching between rain and snow all day, causing a slick layer of icy slush to build up on the field. that layer was slowly covered by snow throughout the game. it's hard enough walking to your car with that kind of footing, let alone taking the normal wide drop back steps. the wind was swirling at upwards of 20 mph. can't throw a proper ball to receivers who are sliding across the field on likely wider routes than you've practiced in that kind of mess. it took a tough, plodding, north-south running back to win that game. luckily, we had a very good one.

I think you let guys be themselves.  They had to know he was a quiet kid when they recruited him.  I know it's nice to have an outspoken QB because he's the one calling the plays.  But, if a guy tends to be more quiet, reserved, and introverted I don't think you need to force him to be someone he's not.  Let the kid make the calls, make the plays, and let someone else be the vocal leader.  As long as someone in that huddle can be vocal I don't think it has to be the QB.

You're misinterpreting the "vocal," part. It's not so much what he says, it's how he says it. That is his huddle. When he is in there calling the plays, the team feeds off of his energy and his demeanor. If he can't speak up and command that huddle with confidence and authority, it's not a good look. That seems to be the issue. You can be quiet and reserved and still show that confidence and authority out there. That's what Harbaugh is looking for. I don't think he cares if the kid is all "rah-rah."

it is and has always been speight. gotta say peters has a chance early for recruiting. now that we're a week in, time to push speight a little more by saying okorn. the last couple weeks of camp will be about gassing up speight, getting confidence high, and getting to say "he won the competition" all throughout the season

while I don't disagree that the job was his to lose, what makes you think that Harbaugh only told Peters that he had a shot at early playing time simply to recruit him better? If you honestly believe that Harbaugh didn't give Peters a fair shake, you haven't been paying attention.

whether it was for Peters or other, future, recruits you are still implying that Harbaugh went into this with the mindset that Speight had the job. I would be SHOCKED if the QB battle was anything other than a completely open battle. if Peters was the best QB he would start, it appears he wasn't...at this time. but I don't doubt that he was given every opportunity to prove his mettle.

I said it on here a few times that one of our defensive big guns told me a while ago that he thought Peters was in 3rd place even though he was playing well. That was during summer workouts, so 3rd place going into fall camp and he hasn't caught up yet, not a great surprise.

Also, in recent interviews Harbaugh and Drevno have said command means knowing every play and what every player does on every play and, having total command of that and knowing what to do at all times and how to react to things and how to remind guys what they need to do, get them lined up or re-positioned, be a leader, get them in and out of the huddle and that sort of thing.
