WOW. That's a huge loss. Cichy was a beast last year.
August 10th, 2017 at 11:29 AM ^
Damn. Sucks to hear. Crazy how many football players tear ACLs
August 10th, 2017 at 12:00 PM ^
Hate for this to happen to anyone. But it happens, and to all teams. If Grant Newsome and Jeremy Clark had been around for the whole season, I believe we would have gone undefeated.
Here's wishing a speedy recovery to a great player.
August 10th, 2017 at 3:27 PM ^
Agreed. It happened to me playing football as well. Such an awful freak injury, especially since its usually non-contact.
August 10th, 2017 at 11:32 AM ^
Wow tough news for the young man.. wish him a full and speedy recovery.. that downgrades Wisconsin's defensive outlook by a significant amount for 2017.
August 10th, 2017 at 11:36 AM ^
but how will that affect Draftageddon (TM)?
August 10th, 2017 at 4:56 PM ^
I knew somebody would beat me to this. My first question was where did he go in Draftageddon? I can't tell if it's a big deal or not without checking.
August 10th, 2017 at 12:09 PM ^
well see...they suffered tough LB injuries last year too but dudes stepped up and played well (ie watt hadnt done much entering last year) without much dropoff...cichy has been a beast, hell be tough to replace and itll be tough to do it 2 years straight...but well see as wisc always seems to have a few talented LBs to play in that system.
feel for the kid though...injuries always suck but even more so during camp or early on after putting in months of hard work and looking forward to balling with your boys and reaping rewards of that time / effort
August 10th, 2017 at 1:48 PM ^
with these guys you never heard of who turn into beasts. I'd love to know how they do it. Maybe something in the Lake Mendota water? My bet is they find some guy to replace him who ends up really good.

You better go knock on some wood right now.
August 10th, 2017 at 11:52 AM ^
Well, I just got done looking at Sara Jean Underwood's Twitter feed, so I will knock on the wood for him.
August 10th, 2017 at 11:34 AM ^
August 10th, 2017 at 11:57 AM ^
Come on, don't be ridiculous. He clearly deserves another year of eligibility. Therefore, the NCAA will say no!
August 10th, 2017 at 3:24 PM ^
August 10th, 2017 at 11:36 AM ^
and I wonder if he will just forego next season and declare for the draft.
August 10th, 2017 at 1:16 PM ^
and stop pretending you are outraged
August 10th, 2017 at 5:11 PM ^
It was just a well placed gif. No harm intended. Probably no one on this board is going to lose sleep over Jack Cichy's ACL, (which has apperantly torn 3 times today) including me. It sucks for the young man and I hope he has a speedy recovery and gets a medical redshirt if that is what he desires.
I am sorry to cause some butt hurt by using John Candy to call you an insensitive asshole...

Didn't they lose a linebacker last year too? I feel like they were down a man when we played them
August 10th, 2017 at 11:39 AM ^
Yeah, Biegel broke his foot before the season started last year, Orr had a season ender the first play of the season, and Cichy got hurt in October. That's either terrible luck or questionable S&C.
August 10th, 2017 at 11:40 AM ^
They didn't have Vince Biegel for that game and they also lost Cichy mid-game against us, I believe.
August 10th, 2017 at 11:45 AM ^
They also lost Orr for the season during their first game vs LSU.
August 10th, 2017 at 12:50 PM ^
That program is producing some good linebackers in the last 4-5 years.
August 10th, 2017 at 9:16 PM ^
They have. I do wonder sometimes if perception of them is a little amplified because their system is set up to make the LBs shine.
August 10th, 2017 at 11:38 AM ^
Wisconsin's very talented LB group has been hard hit by injuries the past couple years. Watt and Biegel missed a significant amount of time last year.
August 10th, 2017 at 11:46 AM ^
... that I don't worry about seeing a similar tweet about some of our DLine.

One of their best defensive guys. But Wisc. is still going to be a very, very solid team again this year. I'm just as nervous about that game as OSU or PSU. I'm expecting another low scoring game with the winner pulling out the victory end.
August 10th, 2017 at 12:02 PM ^
I hate it when great players go down. He was fun to watch (when not playing against us). That will make it harder for Wisc this year but they are still the favorite in the West.
August 10th, 2017 at 12:08 PM ^
Better for us, but I'm not about to start shouting at the top of my lungs in joy...glass houses and all that. Sorry the young man will miss his season...he will be playing on Sundays for sure.
August 10th, 2017 at 12:14 PM ^
Damn that sucks. He was a good one to say the least, and he's got a future in the league. Huge blow for Wisconsin's defense.
That being said, they're still going to be an incredibly tough out in Madison. They develop great talent there out of a bunch of generic three star guys. I still expect a very tight, low-scoring game.

Sucks for the kid... I feel bad for Wiscy, too - they've had a bunch of LB injuries the last couple of years. I can respect UWs program - they line up and play hard, and they're good at it...
August 10th, 2017 at 3:45 PM ^
I'm thinking this isn't a coincidence... They essentially just use their DL to eat up blocks, which means the LBs are being worked more and taking/giving more hits. Probably not great for their durability.
August 10th, 2017 at 12:24 PM ^
I loved this kid's play btw and Wisconsin will have a big spot to fill.
August 10th, 2017 at 1:02 PM ^
before someone invents a method of augmenting tendons to prevent injuries like this.
August 10th, 2017 at 1:18 PM ^
August 10th, 2017 at 1:21 PM ^
That absolutely sucks. As a college football fan, this is a big dissapointment.
He was all over the field against us last year. A first-rate player. Much respect.
Is there any other sport that loses more players each year due to injury than football? It's really out of control.
August 10th, 2017 at 1:24 PM ^
Tonya Harding would not agree with the sentiment,"Too bad. I want to beat opponents at full strength."
These threads are why I hold my breath every time I look at MGoBlog during Fall Camp. I'm sure someone will come out of camp dinged up. Let's just hope it's not as bad as this.
August 10th, 2017 at 5:02 PM ^
Fuck Tonya Harding. Although that was 23 years ago and seems kind of random.
August 10th, 2017 at 1:45 PM ^
Sucks for Wisconsin, sucks for fans who like to watch football and great football players, sucks for Cichy.
The ACL needs to figure out how to be better imo. Get your shit together ACL.
