ESPN U = ESPN The Ocho

Submitted by EastCoast Esq. on

For anybody interested, today is the day when ESPN U becomes ESPN The Ocho for a day.

If you don't know, ESPN The Ocho is a fictional channel from the movie Dodgeball: A True Underdog Story. It features ONLY obscure sports. ESPN decided to make it a reality today - 8/8/2017.

Right now, the World Darts Championship is on.

EDIT: In my excitement, I gave ESPN too much credit. They are a year early from perfection.

This is a much better idea, I think. That said, I hope they use this channel for college football games during the season.

Are we sure that they don't do this every year and it's so underwhelming that we completely forget about it until we get all excited again on 8/8 the following year?

I turned on ESPN a couple of weeks ago and the Cornhole Championships were on. I don't think we need a gimmick to get The Ocho. We already have it.

Is one of my favorite channels. Every weekend they play 30 for 30s from Friday evening to Sunday night. I rarely change the channel all weekend. Of course that will all change on Sept 2nd :)

We're already on it at work - lunch and arm wrestling it is over here. Should be exciting, apart from having to explain to a few people the Dodgeball reference.

I was actually kind of excited to see them do this, even for a day - a bit of self-mockery never hurts, in my opinion.
