This is huge actually. Pulling a 5-Star, 247-composite-ranked #9 player in the country, out of the deep south?

To be honest, we NEVER do this. Da'Shawn Hand, Isaac Nauta, Najee Harris (yes not deep south, but South-West), etc. etc. X1000--not to sound pessimistic--but we literally NEVER get these guys.

Like ever.

Like everytime someone brings up a 5-star that's interested in us, I've learned to have almost zero faith that we get them. Not at the rate that Florida, Bama, Georgia, OSU, and LSU pull them in.

This is actually very big.

Does anyone know the last time we pulled a Southern (hell, even CA) 5-Star?

It may be just one guy, but the signifigance cannot be understated, Harbaugh is truly taking Michigan recruiting to a new level.

lol, good lordy! I'm so sick right now, I haven't slept soundly in over a week with a terrible sinus infection, my head is exploding, clogged, yet draining constantly, and my GF's family (first time meeting) is arriving for a visit tonight for an ENTIRE week.

Also, to be fair, because he hasn't even seen the field yet, I still forget about him (as well, much of the hype/news has been about the EE freshman, and hypenate DL incoming freshman--I don't know why he slipped my mind so easily), also I haven't yet integrated any of the incoming freshman into my M-Football-Brain.

My bad on this, no excuses, but then the question is, when did we last pull out TWO consecutive 5-star recruits from the deep south? Just kidding. But who was before Solomon?

You need to get back in bed before you hurt yourself.

Yes he resided in New Jersey. But he would have been playing his college football in the deep south. Due to all the family, I would bet Clemson. So we had the same competition, every team down south and the rest of the country.

Not sure what's bigger, the # 1. player in the country. Or a 5 star out of Atlanta. Yup, I'm going with the # 1. player in the country.

If you guys want some good reading and some laughs. Go to eleven warriors and read the comments onn the Hinton committment. It goes fron Harbaugh leaving for the nfl to being on the hot seat and being fired. They talk about our 2018 class like it is garbage and about recruits to their 2019 class that have not even committed yet. There are some rational comments also and one guy posed the same question I had and why a commit to Michigan is on there sight. Dobbs name comes up constantly, but if there is one guy I would want for the 2019 class more than any other, because they will just lose it and that is Zach Harrison. They also start going on about Bosa being better than gary. Enough said, pleae go read.

Najee was from Sacramento - so not even Southwest.

Erik Magnuson was a very high, but not quite 5 star prospect out of Cali. David Long was also a very highly rated four star (even higher than Magnuson). Asiasi was rated a little lower than Long in that class. We haven't gotten anyone this high end.

I am definitely not nearly as pessimistic at you, but I'm far from an optimist. This is surprising and tremendous news.

Yeah Long might have not been ranked this high but he was like the #1 ranked db out of the entire western United States. If I remember correctly. That's a ton of football players. Long's commitment might just have been a harder get at the time. I gotta watch the video yet on this kid though.

There are so many labels applied to regions of the United States, but assuredly Shallow South is not one of them.  A common label for the area loosely defined by Northeast Arkansas, Southwest Missouri, West Tennessee, North Mississippi and North Alabama would be Mid South.

One can find themselves getting deeper into "the south" by moving north, say into Appalachia from the Piedmont.  The area just north of Huntington WV in Ohio would feel to be more "southern" than Winston Salem NC.

Labels like south or deep south seem to be a "nice" way of saying "not like me" or "really not like me", respectively.

This is the most egregious assault on the south since Sherman's march to the sea. UGA fans must feel awful about this. Michigan NEVER got 5 stars from deep in the south before Harbaugh. Great news.
