The quest stands upon the edge of a knife. We have signed the contract to move the site over to Nexus from our private server, and we should have a version we can play with early next week. Then we have to try to break it for awhile.

"and we should have a version we can play with early next week"

will this be public facing, or will you be testing it internally?

ps - Once things stabilize, having a 'grand rounds' post on everything that needed to happen to make the transition possible would be a fascinating read.

Just curious what goes into that.  I would suspect/hope for:

  • Load testing until you discover how many simultaneous visits is too many - for knowing ahead of time when the servers have to scale, instead of discovering it during the Ohio State liveblog while tied at 24 in the 4th quarter.
  • Static page posting to lighten server load during the next ITS HAPPENING reload frenzy
  • Cross-Site posting (what happens if you post to the site from a url that didn't start at the site) as happens in attacks.
  • Cross-Site/injection scripting (i.e. don't let users post javascript include urls as content, object tags, sql injection, etc) on every form
  • Progressive testing (what happens with images turned off? JS? Cookies? Adblock? Mobile/Android's "Convert to mobile"?).
  • Spidering - load testing tends to hit a defined set of urls a lot. Spidering hits every discoverable url and can find poor-performing backwaters that negatively affect the whole site's performance when being used
  • DDOS prevention - does it work?  Is IP banning present/working/easily managed?

You don't have to share.  I haven't done this in a while but these are basic things, hopefully already covered.

Thanks for the update

I'll save a lot of time for people:

"Don't read the blog if you don't want to. Its free"

"I will contribute to a kickstarter to update the website"

"A bunch of drupal jokes"

Brian: "We are working on it. We like the guys we are with now"

"Brian makes money off the blog. He needs to update"

*Some WD bashing probably*

*Update on unique users to the blog*

^Rinse and repeat the above in various forms for about 275 comments.

Random thread jack alert but my wheels are a churnin. I've just recently launched a small catering / mobile food vending business. What is the best way to get a logo designed. I have the idea in my head but I'm like John L Smith and I can't actually do it. Any help is appreciated.
