OT - Adrian Beltré joins the 3,000 hit club
Adrian Beltré became the 31st player and first Dominican born player to reach 3,000 MLB hits. Along with that, he’s the fourth third baseman to reach 400 home runs and 1,500 RBI. Certainly a Hall Of Fame candidate, which he coincidentally his his 3,000th on the same day as the HOF Induction Ceremony. The 3,000th hit yesterday was a double against the Orioles.
He needs 8 more hits to pass the Tiger’s great Al Kaline on the all-time list.
Next up to join the club: Albert Pujols with 2,911 and Miguel Cabrera with 2,603. Carlos Beltran has 2,695, but he’s already 40 years old.
Deserves a pat on the head.
Even though the game was in Baltimore, my parents happened to be in the city that week and caught the game where Kaline got his 3,000 hit and we still have the program from that game in lockbox along with some other sports memerobilia from days where things like that occured.
Jeter's 3,000th his happened on my birthday in 2011, which is the only reason his stands out to me, not being a Yankees fan. I remember watching Ripken get his on TV back in 2000 too.
Congratulations to Beltre though on joining some very memorable names in the 3,000 Hit Club.
At 2,000 hits, a player already has a long career and likely has played in a All-Star game or two. At 3,000 hits, that player is still having good seasons at an "elevated" age. But, 38 is only "old" in baseball.
Al Kaline, his BA and RBI averages as a DH were great but his Ph level above 7 really balanced out his career.
+1 for the laugh! You are not getting the credit you deserve for this post.
I have an Alkaline water machine that my brother now refers to as my Al Kaline water.
Congrats to Adrian, that's a hell of an accomplishment. Thinking about how many guys have played the game over the years, and only 31 have ever achieved it is truly impressive.
Hit 2500 came against the Tigers. I love the interaction between Cabrera and Beltre.
He had to know that Beltre doesn't like it at all. But Beltre did tell the Rangers that he would allow it after his 3,000. I haven't seen video of that yet.
I remember when he was a hot shot prospect. I guess I'm old.
shit, I used to have season tickets watching Carlos Beltran play for the Lansing Lugnuts. now OP is saying Carlos is 40 and "old". not making me feel any younger...
which is a lot younger than "Professional Wrestler old".
he turned it around from Seattle days where the media and fans said he was overpaid and overrated into a HoF player at Texas. He got better as he gotten older which is amazing. Counting stats and advanced stats supports the HoF argument for Beltre. He is considered to be one of the best defensive 3B in the league.
He's one of the nicest guy in the league and his teammates loved playing with him. His antics with Elvis Andrus are entertaining.
I remember the day I realized that if you took out the space, Al Kaline's name became "alkaline".
That was also the day I realized I was a nerd.
....I'm sure at least one of his parents was a chemist.
Also, evian backwards is naive - will never buy that brand once I realized that.
Beltre plays the game a lot like Cabrera. Two of the most likeable guys in baseball.
One of the funniest moments I've seen in baseball last Wednesday. Great troll job by Beltre.
That was so funny, but the humorless ump threw him out anyway. Grumpy old ump!

you saw it twice!
He's had an odd career. He was at that good-but-not-great level throughout his 20s (aside from one suspiciously good year in 2004 when he suddenly became a home run hitter) but then he turned it on from age 31 onward.
after attending the game. Disappointed he didn't get national attention for this accomplishment. Tough when you follow Ichiro, ARod and Jeter at this accomplishment and fact he is playing for Rangers.
