Speaking of WFAN, I'm looking forward to the 30 for 30 on Mike and the Mad Dog tomorrow night. Loved that show as a kid growing up in Northern NJ.

I actually listen to him from time to time, just because my son is addicted to sports news. He is the biggest know-it-all sack of shit I've ever heard speak publicly before. And it isn't because of his MSU fandom that I hate him; he's even pretty much a dick to MSU fans...

He makes good points...seriously

What I like about Mike is that he is a contrarian and brings opinions that generally go against the mainstream. Furthermore, I view him as a very principled/logical operator. He is a homer, but if something isn't logical, he will go against it...MSU or not.

And lastly, Reger or Wojo or whatever walking hottake artist they bring in, it will be the same crap...Do you trade Fulmer? or not?... Is the roof on the new arena stupid...lets chat about it for the next four hours...

Us Michigan fans tend to take him too personally. I think he's actually just pretty good at his job... getting ratings. While he's a sparty through and through, he thrives on the UM vs. msu rivalry to make controversial remarks and make our heads spin with rage. He's definitely aware of it. I don't think he'll be as successful without having Michigan to talk about...just another sparty on the UM teet.

Valenti would not have his Michigan State/Michigan schtick to fall back on in Manhattan as nobody would give two shits about his Wolverine trolling in the Big Apple

College football gets almost no coverage in NY/East Coast sportstalk. They consider a cute thing folks do in flyover states, like cow-tipping or sipping lemonade by the ol' swimming hole.

Valenti will need to memorize the Knicks/Yankees/Mets/Giants/Jets/Rangers rosters and get really angry at people from Connecticutt and RI for liking the Red Sox/Pats/B's and C's.

I find it ironic that he is looking to bail while his college program has spiraled into a dumpster fire.  He thirved on being the douchbag while Mark D'Antony rolled Rich Rod and Hoke.  Now that things have drastically changed, the gig is over, time to get out of Dodge (or Detroit in this case).

Good Luck on your audition, hope you get the gig and let me help you kick your ass out the door on your way back to NY.......

The dude rips MSU football appropriately when they suck. He could not be more down on them.

I know I am supposed to dislike the guy as a Michigan fan, but I don't. He's the most entertaining guy on the market right now for 97.1. If he goes, that would open the door wide for another station to put their claws into the Detroit market.

For someone who likes to put on the radio for my car ride home, he's entertaining. It is what it is. No one on that station comes close to his level of talent.

Agreed. Anyone who says he isn't talented doesn't know what the hell they're talking about. He is annoying but he knows the craft well and he wouldn't be on air in NYC right now if he didn't have that reputation. Francesa's salary was around $800,000 if I recall correctly so if he gets the job you gotta admit that's about as successful as one is going to get in that industry.

...doesn't go with Rieger as part of an afternoon team. The man is TOTALLY unlistenable. UGH...

My suggestion, which will never happen, would be to team Rico Beard with Sam Webb. They can talk intelligently about a variety of sports but the Michigan/State angle would be special.
