Why do you hate MSU more than OSU?
I have read these boards for at least 3+ years and I can definitely say that the majority of folks here hate MSU more than OSU:
There are far more threads bashing MSU than OSU
When MSU plays OSU, more people want OSU to win
I am wondering why? As far as I can see OSU has done far more damage to UM than MSU has done over the years:
OSU has cost UM many great bowl game bids, Big 10 championships, rankings
OSU takes many great recruits that might have gone to UM (MSU doesn't seem to have had much of a chance with these kids)
OSU has thoroughly humiliated UM in many games (esp. RR and Hoke)
Some here will say "because its an in-state conference rivalry" but there are many of these in CFB that do NOT produce this level of hate: Miami/FL State, Northwestern/Illinois, Baylor/Texas, Cal/Stanford, Washington/WSU, etc.
I live in C-bus and don't understand why MSU is hated so much- enlighten me.
I don't
My thoughts exactly. Hope Harbaugh soon gives Meyer some more heart problems.
I dislike Ohio State more. I'd chalk it up to living in Columbus for 8 years. If I had lived in East Lansing I might feel the same way about MSU.
Because my ex wife went there
Living in Ohio really does it. I grew up there and was a Michigan fan by 10 entirely because I aspired to be the opposite of the OSU fans I knew.
I can't stand OSU, their players, their coaches, their uniforms, their fans or their toiletbowl of a stadium. I want them to lose all the time, I don't care who it is.
Bashing has to be a result of their recent downfall.
Sparty*
No matter where you go in America you will never find another breed like MSU fans.
I think most of us hate OSU more but we have respect for them. We dont respect MSU. We bash them more because they don't warrant respect and they ask to be disrespekted. But we can all absolutely admit OSU is a great program (and has been one). We also bash on Penn State a ton yet nobody would say we hate them more than OSU, and it's the same reason: no respect for them.
Ohio State hired known cheater Jim Tressel and was one of the dirtiest programs in the country for over 10 years. I don't have any respect for them either. They couldn't beat Michigan so they sold their souls and got desperate after the Cooper years. I respected Woody Hayes and Earl Bruce. But now? Not a chance. And don't get me started on what Urban is doing on the recruiting trail right now.
What is Urban doing on the recruiting trail?
Same stuff he was doing at Florida. Don't be naive. Why do you think he left there?. Oh ya chest pains. The guy is slimier than tressel and so goes the osu faithful. I won't say I hate them, but I really do hate them infiltrating northern Michigan. All they do is shit talk the state of Michigan so they can just stay out. I guess I am cool with them hanging out in southern Michigan at some of our nicer geographical locations like Flint, Detroit, Lansing or maybe little saigon in Inkster.
Wait so why did he leave there then? They didn't get hit with anything. And you say he's doing the same thing now so why couldn't he have continued that at Florida? I don't read every thing about Urban but 99 percent of the time all I see is stuff about how dirty he is without any specifics except that a rumor that he slept with a cheerleader. And I never hear anyone call him dirty except people on mgoblog.
ESSSEEEESEEE
Wrong. Google Maurice Clarett, Terrelle Pryor, Troy Smith, Santonio Holmes, etc and see what pops up. It was a hell of a lot more than just tattoos. People really need to educate themselves. I personally love this Clarett quote.
According to an excerpt from the book, "4th and Goal: One Man's Quest to Recapture His Dream," by Monte Burke (the excerpt was posted by Deadspin), Clarett had some interesting comments including that he owned a brand new Cadillac and Lexus while at OSU:
He was a hard worker in practice and in games. But off the field, he was living a completely different life. "I took golf, fishing, and softball as classes," Clarett says. "Away from class, anything you can think of I did in my 13 months at Ohio State." Drugs and women were two of the things. Cars were another—he owned three of them at a time, including a brand-new Cadillac and Lexus. "I was living the NFL life in college," he says. "I got paid more in college than I do now in the UFL."
I think you responded to the wrong post.
Ditto
It was good to see something bad finally happen to Osu but come on. We're talking about tattoos and jerseys and shit. It wasn't Baylor or Penn State or even MSU now.
Where there's smoke, there's fire.
Except that the tattoo parlor was a front for a drug-selling operation. That's why the DEA was watching the place, and that's how they knew OSU players were gong there. Anyone who thinks they were going there for tattoos is fooling themselves.
I think that we dislike MSU fans more than we dislike OSU fans. For obvious reasons. But I think more people hate the Ohio State College football program more than we hate the Michigan State College football program.
I think I said that right.
Nope hate OSU fans more too.

If you ever had to deal with OSU fans on a regular basis, as I have, you would hate them just as much as anyone. All the years Cooper lost to Michigan, they were quiet. As was I. Rivalries ebb and flow, so I don't like to talk crap to people on the other side. But as soon as Tressel started to beat Michigan, they were all over me about the rivalry. As I told one of them, every year they play this game and someone wins and someone loses, and someone feels good and someone feels bad. And the next day, I still graduated from one of the preeminent universities in the world, and you graduated from . . .the biggest school in Ohio.
Living in East Lansing, especially from 2010-2013, was pretty brutal.
I rarely come in contact with MSU fans outside of southern Michigan, but then again I stopped frequenting fast food joints many years ago.
That's because there aren't many MSU fans outside of southern Michigan.
I don't. What board have you been reading?
I don't
I hate OSU and ND far more than I hate MSU. But I think most people on this board are ready for MSU to go back to being what they have been typically in college football history, which is mediocre at best. Now that that seems to be the case, all our hate can be focused back primarily on OSU.
I rank ND above OSU. I can just laugh at Ohio hillbillies, but smug, delusional ND fans are another matter.
More than MSU. ND arrogance and OSU ignorance make them a step higher than MSU on the hate meter.
Hate? In the context of sports viewership, that's not really a relevant word choice for me. As for the topic, I would not say I disprefer MSU more so than OSU. They are the most painful team to lose to. But OSU is by far a more satisfying win.
Man you are sensitive
Disprefer...?? HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA
I like to spout some ridiculous words like 'floccinaucinihilipilification, but 'disprefer' is inversely proportional to 'gruntled'...neither are words, but only 1 of them should be and only one is entertaining.
Speaking of which, 'disprefer' is a floccinau... uh, the rest. Google it.
I grew up in the U.P. There is a very large concentration of MSU grads up there. When Michigan lost to MSU I had to hear about it every day at school until Michigan eventually won again. A full year or longer of taunts from your mouth breathing MSU fan classmates is infuriating.
There are zero OSU fans in the U.P., so losing to them didn't have the same stakes on a personal level for me.
Exactly. There aren't really any OSU fans in the state, period.
If you're from MI, you grew up with Sparties. Chances are the rivalry means quite a bit to you.
Well I grew up in Michigan - in Ann Arbor. So I knew 0 sparties as a youth.
Until my Mom remarried a sparty... but he was cool, nothing like the modern breed of juggalos they produce.
In fact, many people of my generation had no particular animosity to msu. That all came with Izzo & Dantoni, and the success they had produced a generation of "little brothers"...
But for my generation there will never be even a close call on the rivalries. I didn't eat the rest of the weekend last year after getting robbed in Cbus, I was so sick with hatred & fury.
(Thankfully I had laid on a pretty good base Thanksgiving & the day after ;-)
This all came with Mike Valenti. Once he entered this market, he made that fan base 10X more annoying. They follow him like the pied piper. Unless you live in Ohio as a Michigan fan or read OSU message boards, you don't encounter a single individual that annoying in the OSU fan base. If Mike Valenti finds some other school to attend, we probably aren't having this discussion.
Actual hate makes the Michigan fan base uncomfortable. It doesn't matter which message board you use. They all have the same mentality. Michigan would never be able to come up with its version of scUM in relation to OSU or MSU. I've seen people try it and it was shot down immediately.
It's funny that the band plays over the "you suck" chant after a failed 3rd down conversion. I'm surprised the fans didn't change the timing.
That's the way things are here. I'm willing to bet the average fan who isn't active on message boards doesn't hate either OSU or MSU. They sure as hell don't hate ND.
I don't think that's true. Anyone who truly loves Michigan hates OSU more than MSU. I think the difference is that we respect the OSU rivalry and have been their "little brother" for the last 15 years, while MSU's program and fan base are complete trash (not that OSU's fans aren't) and MSU is currently a dumpster fire.
Michigan State isn't supposed to be good but lucked their way into recent success.
at least Ohio State is a historical power in college football.
That said, I hate them both and hope they burn in hell.
I live in Lansing.
I generally find MSU fans to be far more delusional -- across all sports -- than OSU fans. There's a fair amount of respect that comes from OSU fans. Sparties just spew vitriol. I just hate it when we lose to them. I don't like losing to OSU but MSU gets under my skin way more.
Wrong. Just recent MSU football success vs. UM has made me and some more spiteful than normal. Recent OSU football success vs. UM has made me quiter and more frustrated than normal.
I hate MSU a bit differently but definitely not more that I hate OSU or, for that matter, ND
Don't
MSU is just an annoyance.
I grew up in Ohio.
