TomVH: Recruiting Update 4/7

Submitted by TomVH on
Here's a few updates from tonight: - OH LB Antonio Poole JR has not been offered yet, but has been in contact with the coaches. He told me tonight that if MIchigan offers, there is a chance that he will commit. Here's a link to his highlight video. - NJ ATH Damiere Byrd and LB Antoine Pozniak will be coming up for the spring game. They're coming with the Top Prospects Family, which was created by Je'Ron Stokes' father. Pozniak's highlight video is here. Antoine is hoping for an offer sometime after the spring game, but he might need to camp in the summer time to show himself off in person. He says he puts on weight really easily, and weighed 165 as a freshman, and is now a little over 200. His coach is actually thinking about using him as a "Taylor Mays" type strong safety this year (his words, not mine). - Klein Oak DE Nathan Hughes has around 24 offer so far, including Michigan. He hasn't really narrowed his list down yet, but he said Michigan is definitely among the top 10. Distance is a factor in visiting, so Michigan might be used as an official visit. Hughes is 6-foot-6, and around 260-pounds. His film is right here. I've added some more updates to the Spring Game Visitors List, too, so check that out.

"His coach is actually thinking about using him as a "Taylor Mays" type strong safety this year (his words, not mine)." The only way that's better is if it's a 'Billy Mays' type. We need a good salesman for our spread to be deceptive!

I'm glad to finally hear something about Poole. IMO, he is talented enough to be one of the 2-3 elite LB's we were hoping for in this class. I'm not a big fan of the "If you offer, I might commit" game, though. It seems like recruits have used this tactic mainly to leverage more offers.

Since I hadn't heard about Poole until just now, why are people so high on him (other than video). He looks like a solid player, but his offer list so far is MAC schools and the bottom half of the Big Ten. It looks like he has interest from a number of bigger schools, but MSU might be his best offer. The fact that he's an athletic LB is a good start for sure, especially since the Trey DePriest thing is looking less likely by the day. I'm really not doubting him, just interested to learn more about him. Thanks team.

I believe he is the type of player who will have a very impressive offer list after his senior season. Given our recent troubles, we have to get an early lead with a guy like him. The video speaks for itself, and he seems to have great instincts.

This guy reminds me of our young LB's in the late 90's. Poole has very good speed, slightly under sized, and hits you with bad intentions. It would be nice to land a true LB recruited for LB. I'm getting slightly sick of seeing Michigan's LB corps be a mess of projects and position switches.

If it wasn't for the Freep and the investigation, TomVH would be on staff by now and these blue chips wouldn't stand a chance against the onslaught of the Michigan recruiting machine.
