This sucks.  She was Michigan Miss Basketball in high school.  Shame that she left the state entirely.

and what is it about WVU that attracts seemingly all of our outgoing transfers?

Common denominator is Chester Nichols, former assistant coach at Michigan (under Barnes Arico), now on the staff at West Virginia. He recruited both Davenport and Gondrezick during his time at Michigan.

Probably addition by  subtraction. We didn't miss a beat in the WNIT when she left, but it does leave us pretty think at pt guard next year. She was very talented but plenty of baggage.

1. She would just disappear at times to Kansas to go see her boyfriend, Jayhawks G Josh Jackson. There was more than one occasion where she left the state and coaches did not know.

2. I'm told she showed up to campus in aboslutely terrible form in terms of conditioning, granted, her talent helped make up some of that gap, but still, irresponsible AF.

3. Missing classes and not caring, arguing with KBA and assistants about PT, things of that nature.

They make a ton of money, but I don't envy head coaches in the team sports.

Tough situation. If all this is true, it says a lot about Josh Jackson, too. Though he's already had one suspension for off-court behavior, and there was another incident where he lost his temper, threatened a woman and vandalized her car. It's easy to pile on Gondrezick, but she has taken on a lot for someone's who's still a teenager.

Thanks for the insight.  I was wondering if his relationship with him had something to do with it.  Long distance is tough by itself.  Being in a relationship with a one and done must rub off on her somehow, either altering her mentality about school or about the game itself.

My friend who is a manager on the women's team hinted at some of that "baggage" she carried and good riddance. Talented, homegrown player but not worth the headaches.

I know we have a couple of posters here who are reasonably familiar with the Women's Basketball team.  I'm assuming that when your best player, a Freshman, transfers to another school, that's generally a pretty bad sign for a program's direction.

EDIT:  Never mind; I see some posts addressing this immediately before mine.

i hesitate to call her the best player, but the combination of her, katelynn flaherty (a 20 ppg shooting guard, 1st team all-big ten) and hallie thome (really good post scorer and rebounder), plus losses at ohio state and maryland, made us look like conference contenders next year.  she's a huge loss.

that said - they really didn't seem to miss her during the post-season, and arrico has definitely shown she can recruit. not uconn-level recruit (nobody does that), but good enough to be a consistent 20-win program.

"they really didn't seem to miss her during the post-season".   The post-season was against NIT competetion, not against NCAA tourney level competition.  They will definitely miss her against the better teams.

They didn't beat any of the "better teams" they faced during the regular season when Gondrezick was on the team. It's also a fact that the team played better during the WNIT after she left. Barring any injuries to key players, I'd be willing to bet that the team has a better year next season than 2016-17.

Not necessarily, Ohio St, Maryland  Louisville and Oklahoma each lost almost their entire freshman classes and they're all top programs. Maryland just had the national freshman of the year transfer out.  Two of OSU tranfers were five stars and one a 4 star. Sign of the times.

Paige Rakers transferred out a couple years ago, and Boogie Brozoski transferred out last year.  Now Gondrezick, who was a starter.   Leaves a big hole in the lineup for next season.
