but he's pretty unathletic. Throw in bad vision, I don't see him sticking on the roster.

I guess I'm just not seeing it. He's good at a few things, not particularly great at anything, and does not have a lot of speed
Also balance. So many times it looked like he was going down/going to get tackled but just kept on going.
Smith has 2 things going for him. 1) He has been very good in pass blocking and can catch the ball on swing passes and being that outlet in the middle of the field for the QB. 2) He has a forward body lean so when he get tackled he gets another 2 or 3 yards falling forward most times.

What About Kenny Allen? Even if he doesn't make the Ravens' game-day roster, couldn't he be a valuable practice squad member for some NFL team because of his versatility in being able to handle punting and kicking?
kickers or punters on the practice squad. So it's either he makes it or he's a FA. Kenny better put up a hell of a showcase in order to get signed into active roster. He might have a better chance of making the roster as a kicker if he can make FGs reliably.
True but they do sometimes come up with a "lower body injury" and end up on IR for a year. They can then spend a year working on strenght and "Rehab" and see how things progress. Several teams did that last year.

A lot of us were wondering why he hadn't gotten a nibble with the rest of the UDFAs, and Magnus's mention of back problems was the first time I'd seen anything in all the wondering posts. Was this well known? Makes sense then that they'd wait for a try-out to see how he's doing.
It was well known that he had back issues. I don't know how well known it was that it kept him from getting drafted.
He was crazy productive at Northwestern and New England is the perfect home for him. He very well could be next in the Welker-Edelman-Amendola line

Paired with Gronk running rampant. Hogan has been more of an outside threat for them. Edelman is about to turn 31 and Amendola is going to turn 32 this year so they've only got a few years left tops, and if Carr starts doing well, the Patriots will cut one of those two loose like they did for Welker
Given that, Carr's got every opportunity to work his way into the vacancies those 2 will leave very soon. His stats were really good last year: 90 catches, 1,247 yards, 12 TDs
I could easily see him being on the Patriots for 10 years
I mean, I think his highlights speak for themselves. He fits right into that mold that the Patriots love
Gallon was an elite outside reciver trapped in a short mans body. I dont recall him being overly shifty or quick, but he was a guy who was great at high pointing the ball (something about rocket boots, right?)
Carr, to me, looks more like those shifty inside guys the Patriots always have who always get open
You never know what might happen. So many running backs tear ACLs or get injured somehow, even if you miss a roster early in the year, you can get a call in week six or week nine.
