Cheering for someone losing a job is just as classless as what he said about JP's urine sample. We should be better than that.
Also, before people start complaining about what he said regarding the Orange Bowl, there was a report yesterday on the radio (no not on Valenti's show) that NFL execs are questioning the authenticity of his hammy injury before the game.
Since I watch nothing on ESPN outside of the games (even turning off the halftime shows), I have no idea how bad he is. But this is a low blow.
But they can control who their franchise drafts. Either way, I want him to slide to the Lions because I don't think he gets out the first round. Per alum Adam Schefter:

Schefter had reported at the time that Peppers tried to practice with a hamstring strain but ultimately decided, shortly before the game began, that the injury was too severe.
I've lost a lot of respect for Schefter in recent years. He used to be a legit news source who didn't run with rumors, but being at ESPN seems to have driven him to become the same reaction chaser as everyone else. This feels as much an NFL exec at one team in the bottom part of the draft trying to hurt a guy's stock to get a better shot at drafting him than actual, verifiable beliefs that Peppers was "not showing commitment to his team", or whatever.
Of course, this is also the league that thought spending a first-round draft pick on Johnny Manziel was a good idea, so maybe they are just that dumb.
Completely agree with the ESPN angle. They seem to want their employees to become "personalities", not just reporters.
Despite being a Buckeye, I used to have a lot of respect for Kirk Herbstreit. The past few years he's been engaging in childish twitter wars and hot takes on air in between games. He's still not a bad commentator, but he's lost any credibility he had. Same goes for most of the other employees.
Im not going to cheer a guy getting fired, but "NFL execs talking about X" is probably the most common piece of shit ESPN talking heads peddle. They don't have to have any sources, they aren't going to be held responsible, and (as most of them will argue), they aren't reporters so the rules of proper sourcing and the like don't apply. So no, barring something else beyond someone filling 15 minutes on drive-time radio, I'm not putting much stock in this story or whatever else guys like Kannell (used) to say to justify their paychecks.
It's interesting looking at the various tweets. Most are people saying "it's been great, loved my time, on to the next thing" and varients thereof, sometimes with a slight subtext of "sucks I'm being canned after so many years of contribution". Some of the people canned today by ESPN lost their job because profits were down, not that they sucked at their job. I feel bad for those people and their families who rely on that income. Kannell lost his job because he was an entertainer and sucked at it. Only thing I am celebrating is that as a paying subscriber I will no longer have to turn the channel when he is on the air.
I'm never going to cheer for a guy who lost his job. This was unexpected, and he's still a guy with kids and a family who now has to find some other job. While I personally find him to be a twit who (as we've seen) is easily replaceable, it still sucks for him and I do feel for him and his family right now.
All that said, being a contrarian and spouting off "hot taeks" about guys faking injuries at bowl games isn't going to engender a bunch of sympathy when you do get booted because, again, your employer realized you weren't the pay.
I don't feel bad for the guy that sucks at his job and gets canned. You can't run your mouth and alienate clients of your company without repercussions.

Feels awkward to have a thread celebrating a man getting fired, but considering that he's probably been raking in money for years throug his football career and broadcasting, its not like he's going to be taking his family to a homeless shelter anytime soon. I'm relatively indifferent toward what he said.
Jamele Hill would probably be the only person at ESPN I would legitimately be happy to see get fired.
Did they test his brain and the sample came back diluted?
The only thing worse than the "David Stern Curse" of turning athletes into product selling personalities (cough *Jordan) was that ESPN did the same to the neardy knowledgeable guys like Berman and Loy and than replaced them with talk show hosts, comedians and Vanna White's.
Of course, at least the Vanna's seem to know wtf they're talking about.
This is one of the most classless threads I've seen on this site. Kanell's impingement of Jabrill's character in regards to the injury at the Orange Bowl was inexcusable, and he has rightly been excoriated for it. The eagerness with which some people on this thread are celebrating a person (or people) going through one of the more devastating days of their lives is EQUALLY inexcusable.
Separate the person from the message. And separate the personal from the professional. Glad you won't have to listen to or watch Kanell anymore? Can't blame you. Dance on his personal disappointment? I have no respect for that.
Oh, and I disagree with a lot about Jamele Hill and flip the channel if she's on it, but the misogynistic and occasionally borderline racist way people refer to her on here is shameful (and lets be clear here, I think those words get thrown around way too much in society, but I don't see any other way of labeling the language people use).
Threads like this are hard to distinguish from the comments section at a fringe political website, and that's not a good look.
It's hard to separate the person from the message when the person is an asshole and the message is an attack on the character of a college kid. Kanell deserved to be laid off and he should get no sympathy for it.
Kanell might be a great guy outside of work, but in his job he came across as a rich, heartless bastard who was at best bad at his job, and at worse, actively lying.
It is very rare that we should applaud or celebrate someone losing their job. Hoiwever, when that person spreads false information that harms college kids all to generate some name recognition and pad his fat wallet, that is a firing I will gladly celebrate. I am sure he will find something else, and his family will be just fine financially. I just hope his next job is not covering college athletics.
The person and the network bank on the personality of the individual to drive revenues. It's why everyone has gotten more obnoxious on that channel over the years. So when that personality then gets them bit in the ass, I feel no sympathy. He got rich being an asshole, he was then let go because they could no longer justify keeping him.

I think you are confusing misogynistic with misostaeeistic. I read through every one of the comments on this Jemele Hill post and found 1 or 2 subtle instances of misogyny. Folks hate her because she's a sparty tool, just like Plaxico Burress. I mention him because he snags his fair share of scorn in that thread. It may be that the mods deleted all the misogynistic crap, but if that's the case, be thankful we have great mods patrolling our board. Perhaps Jemele needs a mod to patrol her mouth.

Maybe they did get pulled, but people dropping words like cunt, whore, bitch, etc in Jemele comments is not uncommon, and it's embarrassing. If the mods have been on it, I'm glad.
While I totally disagree with his hot take on Peppers, it seems in poor taste to pile on a guy that just lost his job. I've had my contract as a teacher not renewed before because of budget cuts and been forced to relocate, find a new job, etc. and it's no fun. I personally will be supportive towards the guy during what is likely to be a challenging situation. He is still a person that has to make a living and support his family.
