Baseball comes from down 7-0 to beat Illinois

A wild one today at Ray Fisher Stadium.

Second comeback win this week. Michigan was down 3-0 to Notre Dame at home on Tuesday night and came back to win 4-3.

This one was a whole lot different.

Illinois went up 2-0 in the first inning on a homer and a passed ball.

Two innings later, Illinois would go up 7-0 on an RBI double, a 2 RBI single, an RBI single and a fielding error.

The comeback would begin in the 4th.

Michael Brdar would get Michigan on the board with an RBI double to score Johnny Slater. Transfers Nick Poirier and Miles Lewis would each get RBI singles to cut the deficit to 7-3.

Illinois would tack on another run in the top of the 5th to make it 8-3, but Michigan would erase the deficit completely in the same inning.

After a pair of singles and a walk, the bases would be full of Wolverines. Drew Lugbauer would then clear them with his second grand slam of the season to make it a one run game, 8-7!

The next at bat, Miles Lewis would walk. He would score and tie the ballgame on a fielder's choice.

8-8 after 5 innings.

Lugbauer would walk in the 7th inning and would be scored on a Miles Lewis RBI double, breaking the tie and giving Michigan a 9-8 leader.

Enter Lambman in the 9th, Jackson Lamb would go 1-2-3 and end the game.

Michigan comes back from behind 7-0 to beat Illinois, 9-8. An incredible comeback that would've been a bad loss a year ago.

A year ago this team was losing leads, now they're sniping leads from other teams.

Michigan is now 24-6 and 5-2 in the B1G.

These same two teams will play again tomorrow at 2pm at Ray Fisher Stadium.

Any of you guys ever been to Omaha for CWS? It's awesome. It's crazy early, but I wouldn't miss it for the world if we get back.

Nice win. On the recap - what's up with all of the "would" language? Would walk. Would score. Would go 1-2-3 to end the game.....why not: Walked. Scored. Went 1-2-3 to the end game. Passive vs active.
