New 2018 QB Offer: Tyler Shough

Submitted by EconClassof14 on

I'll leave it to the professionals to leave a scouting report, but according to 247Sports QB Tyler Shough out of Chandler, AZ picked up a Michigan offer tonight. Which was immediately followed by a Steve Witfong always-right crystal ball.

He's rated as the composite #16 pro-style QB, but his best offers are Harvard, South Carolina and Indiana. Interesting to see the QB board expand prior to the 2 spring game QB visitors, I'd assume Shough is Plan C.

This is probably the type of QB you are going to get after two top 5 guys in a row. Develop him and see what happens after a RS and a couple of years. Also sounds like this kid was a Michigan fan growing up from the twittersphere.

to land a top QB this year after the last two classes. This kid has some raw talent and have to like that 6'4" frame.  Definitely needs a lot of work on mechanics, but if we were to land him I think a couple of years working with Pep and Harbaugh they could get that straightened out. Then who knows you might just have a diamond in the rough.

Kid is a sleeper. Amazing tape. Weirdest offer list I've ever seen. Harvard, Yale, Cornell and Columbia. Nebraska, Hawaii, South Carolina, a few others and... Michigan.

The figure is lower than that and they don't cover all expenses (it's a sliding scale based on household income).  Also, need based tuition assistance is for all students, not just athletes.

Had my daughter been accepted to the Michigan of the East, it would have cost me about the same as we're paying for instate tuition next fall.

I thought we would offer the #2 QB in Arizona, Jack Plummer, as I posted in the comments of the Recruiting post today. Plummer looks like he can play. However, so can this kid. He's got a really nice arm and can move a fair amount. He looks maybe a little more stiff on the run than Plummer but he is plenty fast for Harbaugh's tastes. Shough plays in more of a pro style system than Plummer, which is probably more attractive to the coaches.

Not just because he's from Arizona, but he reminds me of Brian Lewerke a little bit (MSU's QB whose leg was broken by Jabrill Peppers, IIRC).

Don't know thing 1 about this kid but convinging a top flight kid to get in a long line is probably a tough task for this class. "Take a QB every class" is a saying I agree with. This year might be the perfect storm where high competition and a small class makes it a little painful.

Not trying to be a condescending to Tyler, he may well be a great Qb and Harbaugh can see what others cannot.

I didn't see a thread about it, has DTR officially committed to UCLA? He was trending that way, last I heard, and this seems to tell us where the staff thinks that recruitment is going if it's not actually official yet.

But he did say he wanted to silent commit early for whatever that's worth.

So he could be a silent commit to UCLA and the M coaches know so they're expanding their board while still recruiting him.

He was also told he'd be the only QB in this class. So that also makes me believe he's not coming to A2.

In the DTR quote I saw, DTR said if he commits first Michigan will only take one QB, but if another guy commits they'll still have a spot for DTR.

So basically he'd be the only QB unless he's late or a flip (though with space limited I'd be really surprised if they ended up signing two regardless of who commits and when).

like those old fashioned news reels? One of the tweets said he dropped a 'dime' on a 7 on 7, I'm assuming that's good? When I was a kid I don't think that was good...
