M Baseball completes sweep of PSU

The #22 Michigan baseball team played up to their ranking today, destroying Penn State by a 14-1 score.  Add that to a 10-6 win on Friday and a 15-2 win on Saturday, and that completes a rather easy sweep for Michigan's first Big Ten home series.  Drew Lugbauer has a case for Big Ten player of the week, and maybe even NCAA honors; the Junior third baseman was 13-for-19 (.684) with 3 home runs, 13 RBIs and 9 runs scored in the 5 games this week.

Michigan took a big early lead, 13-1 after 5 innings, and the bench got a lot of action for the second straight day.  Michigan is in the early stretch of a 18-game homestand, starting it off with 5 straight wins, and Fisher Stadium is being extra friendly to the batters, since they have put up 64 runs in those 5 games (average 12.8 runs/game). 

Michigan, at 4-2 in the conference, will be in a tie for 4th place when the day is done, with Minnesota on top of the standings at 6-0 followed by Maryland at 5-1 and Nebraska at 2-0-1.

So if Michigan can go 13-5 in the Big Ten the rest of the way and 7-3 non-conference, that will get them to 42-14.  Winning the Big Ten Tournament would make it 46-14.  In 2014, Indiana went 42-13 against a schedule not any tougher than Michigan's schedule this season, and they got a top-16 seed and hosted an NCAA regional.  It's not out of the realm of possibility right now.  A lot will probably depend on taking at least 2 of 3 from Oklahoma in a couple of weeks, and taking 3 of 4 from Michigan State (including the non-conference game).
