OT - Spring Break/Get-Away Plans and Favorite Memory
Mates,
It's that time of the year when many are either on the road or preparing to depart for some type of spring break, pursuit of warmth, flight to sunshine, escape from snow, etc.
So the questions are: What are your spring break plans, assuming you are taking one, where are you going and whose going with you?
What and where was your best all-time spring break memory?
XM
As much as I'd like to, I've never left for a spring break...
I keep a stash of money each year for at least one Michigan game in the fall. I travel TOWARD the cold. I embrace that shit.
steel in spine.
incidentally, if you feel like it, can you explain who is in your avatar and what it's significance is?
And I sure can. My avatar is of my dad and I. He's on the left, I'm on the right. We both coach football for a small school in Ohio, and the picture is the two of us on the sideline.
thank you for sharing

Once for sharing the info on your pic (cool) and a second time for your Dad's LEGIT beard.

Yeah, my pop's beard is insane. And trust me, he knows it too.
"Don't worry, son. I'll grow your beard for you." I hear that one a lot.
I'm going to Moscow in June after athletics season ends. Unless something haywire happens with the tourist visa I've applied for.
are finally going to meet. fitting.
kidding aside, that would be a pretty epic trip. good for you WD. are you going with friends or a tour group, anything like that?
I will be going with a friend. I have mostly have no idea what to expect.
I've never been on a plane before, for one.
that makes your choice even more dramatic. why moscow? why not france, or england, or maybe austrailia or new zealand?
It's just been a place I've always been interested in. Probably because it's one of my Eastern European nationalities adds to the intrigue.
I've heard nothing but good things about going there from research.
Only window where I can do something like this. It's gonna be for a few weeks. The job I'm at now is not gonna be my career, I'm young and so is my friend who also is going.

That's a trip I've always wanted to go on. Good for you man. IME - London is just like the US (for the most part) so good choice to go all in.
Try to find a bride there (just kidding) (maybe not kidding - they are good looking).
March 26th, 2017 at 11:29 PM ^
Whatever happens happens.
Enjoy the trip WD. If you are a super nerd like me you'll enjoy the architecture in eastern europe
Hell, you can find a Russian bride just from the sidebar adds on MGoBlog.
It's strange . . . all the Russian girls I have ever met look you-can't-touch-this hot, sound like total mean bitches, but are actually very good natured and sweet. Something about that accent.
They look like Stalin when they hit middle age just sayin

...worked in CNN's bureau there before it got gutted. Very interesting place that is imperfect/challenging as a vacation destination. Keep your wits about you if you are out late at night/drunk.

I wouldn't go to Moscow, but I passed up a window to travel overseas when I was your age and to date have not been able to reopen that window. So do it and make great memories.
every person should travel when they're young. Too many people say 'i'll do it later' and later never comes. You don't want to be the 60-70 year old getting on the plane bound for europe. It's hard enough doing that when you're young.
One small piece of advice: Make sure your seat has an air sickness bag. I know, I know - it sounds like I'm making a joke.
Trust me, I'm not.
Don't listen to any Alanis Morissette songs between now and then.
Holy Jesus that's gonna be a rough flight for a newbie. I'm an experienced traveler and I still can barely deal with the flight to Europe.
I went to Russia a few years ago, though. It was....different.
Good for you WD...are you going to Dallas?
I figure that sounds more like a WD save up and first flight experience.
You're always full of surprises!
But if you're going overseas...not Rome in a couple of weeks?! Travel around and follow the team like your parents probably wanted to do with the Beatles or the Stones back in their day!

No he has to pick up his mail order bride he met online.
Kinda defeats the whole purpose of "mail order" in my opinion.
if you pick them up in-store.
Yeah, and returns by mail order are a bitch. Better to do it right in the store.
if you're also able to spend a couple days in St. Petersburg, I highly recommend doing so. Take the overnight train, but sleep lightly.

This train in Russia comment made me remember this. Hilarious story by Bert on Youtubehttps://youtu.be/paG1-lPtIXA
I'm working cause someone has to keep the world spinning while you bitches are out partying
he's a dude, no doubt.
Can you please take a break so we can start dancing?
I actually never planned anything for spring break - most everyone else left and it was time to actually catch up on hobbies like music and model ships (science fiction ones mainly - I still have my model of USS Reliant, for example) and things like that. Even at Michigan, I had a tendency to schedule my own vacation, hence the class which I attended maybe five times not including exams, did all the reading, and still managed an "A" in it.
We're taking the kids to museums, some of them on campus as well as the DIA and a few others, and some miscellaneous events. They are out the week after this coming week and I do plan to be more scarce at work than usual for that reason.
Best spring break memories are NSFMGB. But Daytona senior year of high school was pretty fun.
Everything is suitable for mgoblog.
Favorite memory: going to the Bahamas with my housemates and hanging out with some British sailors on leave. Nothing tawdry, just the good clean fun of drinking and gambling with fun-loving working class Brits.
I'm currently on spring break with my family in Vero Beach. My son is here with his high school baseball team, and they're playing a tournament at Dodgertown. Yesterday he pitched a great game and got the win. Pitched from the same mound as Koufax, Sutton, and Drysdale. They're staying four guys to a room and because my son is a junior on the varsity team, he doesn't get a bed; he's sleeping in a lounge chair. For five nights. I can't even believe he managed to pitch one inning, much less six. But great team bonding experience he'll remember for the rest of his life.
have fun
Gigi Hadid. All I'm gonna say

Well not me personally, but a guy I know---him and her GOT IT ON

I was too poor in high school or college to go on spring break but I'm enjoying it now
March 26th, 2017 at 10:30 PM ^
For Cancun. A little work...a little vacation with the kids...
Not great timing with some personal stuff going on..I feel like a heel for not being more excited, but I have a feeling I'll love it when I'm just chillin' with a book and sand between my toes.
I never really did great spring break trips when in school, but my kids' spring breaks are pretty awesome. Last year was the best--Maui with my family.
hope that works out very well, and very quickly.
Take a side trip down to Playa Del Carmen. It's a fun place.

Live in Chicago. An industry lifer. Going to eat and drink. Izakaya Go is the only must eat place on the list. Maybe Robuchon. Staying at Venetian. Cheap

I believe UM's spring break is sometime in January, and then the last day of classes for the semester is just whenever it stops snowing.
March 26th, 2017 at 11:23 PM ^
Hilarious. I remember being in Florida and seeing a handful of college students. They were all from UM or EMU, which had a calendar very similar to ours.
Not sure if serious, but it was very end of Feb-Mar.
It always felt like UM went on the first spring break possible. And I distinctly remember one year taking finals in a snowstorm.
