Softball beats Bowling Green; Hutch picks up 1500th win over weekend
Coming off a weekend 3-game sweep of Kent State, #19 Michigan took on Bowling Green today at Alumni Field.
Michigan wasted no time getting the bats going, something that has thankfully carried over from the weekend.
Michigan went up 4-0 in the 1st inning on a run that walked in, an RBI by Monte and a 2 RBI single from Amanda Vargas.
Panda would add more RBIs to her total, as she drove in two more in the 3rd inning to make it 6-0 Michigan.
BGSU would get on the board with an RBI in the 5th, but Katie Alexander gave herself a late birthday present in the bottom of the 5th with a solo shot to make it 7-1 Michigan.
Michigan would go on to win, 7-1. Tera Blanco continued her impressive run in the circle, as she finished with 8 Ks. Tera was the B1G Pitcher of the Week two weeks ago, with her teammate Megan Betsa named B1G Pitcher of the Week yesterday thanks to her no-hitter last week.
Michigan is now 18-7-1 and will face Eastern Michigan tomorrow at 4pm at Alumni Field.
Also, didn't get a chance to post a thread during the weekend what with Basketball going on and all, but congrats to Coach Hutch! The winningest coach in the history of softball picked up her 1500th career win over the weekend.
We're lucky to have her.

I can confirm that she occasionally does go by Panda, yes. I am unsure whether or not she hammers though.

I can't even imagine having to follow up Hutchins the day she retires - add this to another in a long list of achievements in her time in Ann Arbor.
In some ways, hers might be one of the most intimidating seats to fill whenever it should need to be filled and hopefully this isn't for a good long time.

1500 is an absurd number.
position to Mike Candrea this year. He has already picked up 12 games this year and is now only 4 games behind. Arizona presently has the most wins in D1 softball.

After yesterday she is up by 5 wins. Arizona will not keep up the pace they are currently on as they now move into Pac-12 play, which will be a lot tougher then what Michigan will be facing in the B1G. I expect the difference in wins will probably stay pretty much the same through the rest of the year.
Minnesota is still ranked ahead of us at #8 and sit with a 25-2 record. It's terrible that we don't play them during the regular season and may or may not see them when we host the B1G tournament. But thank God we get to play Rutgers and Maryland...
Wisconsin is currently 20-2 and is ranked #22 and OSU is getting a few votes. Looks like an up season for the B1G.
Do we buy Wisconsin? I haven't seen them play yet this season but their record seems misleading. James Madison's the only team they've played so far who's any good, and they lost to them.

Massey has Minnesota #6, Wisconsin #18 and Michigan #19. Wisconsin hasn't beaten anybody, but Michigan hasn't really beaten anybody either.
Wisconsin is 1-1 against the top 40 (W over #38 FIU, L to #10 JMU). Michigan is 2-5-1 against the top 40 (both wins over #21 ASU). It's hard to say that Michigan's record is that much better than Wisconsin's. Also, Wisconsin is 19-1 against teams outside the top 40, Michigan is 16-2.
Ohio State & Illinois seem to be the "third tier" of the Big 10, after Minnesota and then U-M & U-W.
Wisconsin hasn't just "not beaten anybody". They haven't played anybody, hence why their record is misleading.
Unfortunately Arizona a 29-1 record so far this year which brings Mike Candrea up to 1497 wins. It's likely he may repass Hutch in total wins this year.

possibly the greatest coach to ever coach at UM. Let's hope the softball team can continue to roll now and play deep into the season and make a run in the WCWS
