Announce team for Regional: Good News/Bad News

Submitted by jimmyshi03 on

We get the CBS slot, as opposed to TBS which is good for a lot of us cord cutters.

The good: Kevin Harlan is probably the best pure PxP guy doing national basketball in both the NBA and college. Dana Jacobson is, famously, an alum.

The neutral: Dan Bonner is fine

The Bad News: Reggie Miller. Who is the worst.

Harlan is fine to good, but he's nowhere near the best (Breen, McDonough, Marv Albert, Shulman, Gus are all better off the top of my head).  He is the best of the CBS guys though.

That was hilarious and I am a Pacers fan!!.  Those were some great mathups in the early 00's between Detroit and Indiana, up until the Malice in the Palace.   Even though I love reggie for the phenomenal player he was in Indy, he is atrocious as an analyst.

Marv Albert? Is this a joke? He is way past his prime. He constantly mixes up or mispronounces names, trips over his words, and is generally just confused. It's been that way for years.

Watch this clip of Marv at the 6:20 mark from the Elite 8 game against Florida in 2013: https://youtu.be/GiRUTvXGx5g?t=6m20s

"Burke able to probe and gets inside for the first field goal for the Gators!"

Marv does stuff like this all the time.

Also I think Breen is completely average with one wayyy overused and lame catch phrase, "BANG!" Does he ever say anything different when a player makes a big shot?

Gus is a living meme. Okay in small doses I suppose.

McDonough is good, but he triggers me for obvious reasons.

I don't care if the announcing team is Thad Matta, Tom Izzo, Rick Pitino, and Adolph Hitler's bloated corpse, so long as we win the game!

I don't love Nantz (except for the Masters), but it lends a big game feel to things to have him on the call. Considering he did the the final two games of the B1G Tournament and our first two of the NCAA Tournament, I wouldn't have minded the continuity.

Having said that they were never going to not have their lead crew doing UCLA-Kentucky. Kevin Harlan is one of the best (though no Gus Johnson). Reggie is one of the worst.

Either way, the same basketball will be played, so it's not that important.

Thanks for stealing those Louisville plays for us Tracy!

Especially that one late in the game where Louisville fouls us on the inbound with 3 seconds left on our shot clock.

Seemed like a strange call for them to make, but what do I know?  I'm just a fan.

I guess there is a fine line between genius and stupidity.

then you gotta love Kevin Harlan. Harlan hasn't seen a play he couldn't over-describe in more exciting detail and overhyped rhetoric without advancing either the game storyline or that play's significance to it. To Harlan, everything is exciting, from a throw-in to a pass downcourt.

Really? I was just going to comment on how Raftery needs to be put out to pasture. Adds basically nothing until the replay before they cut to commercial, which is when he performs his trademark move, which I would liken to an old man having a seizure while trying to move his constipated bowel- during which he utters something completely unintelligible about player x, y or z's performance. Dude needs a new shtick.

Who reffed the Big Ten Tournament Final?

I was at that game up close and I thought they did a realy good job.  They called the stuff that mattered, but they did not call every little touch that was immaterial.

They also did not try to insert themselves into the game by making dramatic game-changing calls in the last minutes.  No TV heroics.

I want them the rest of the way.

EDIT:  I just checked, it was Lamont Simpson, DJ Carstensen, and Bo Boroski.
