Harbaugh tweet

Submitted by Wolverine Devotee on

People were saying in a thread the other day that it's weird and almost offensive that Harbaugh hasn't tweeted barely any support for the team during this run.

He tweeted out combine stats during the First Round game which was weird and caught attention from people including myself.

Well, here's this

Outstanding performance by Coach Beilein and @umichbball team! Terrific individual efforts today too. It's great to be a Michigan Wolverine!

"Great win? Coach for life!! Heartbreaking loss? Fire Beilein!!"

Not me.  I have criticized the "fire Beilein" people all along.  What Beilein is doing with a clean program in this era is world class.  He has earned the chance to retire on his own terms.  I hope he is here another ten years.  He'll know when it's time to go.

just to upvote this sentiment. What I really dont understand is all the "fire him!!!" people who dont have a better answer.  Even when the team was at its lowest point this season (some time in January) could anyone really name a coach who would be appreciably better?  I dont remember any suggestions thhat wouldve been more than a lateral move, at best.

The irrationality in thinking that Harbaugh tweeting out FB media DURING the Men's BB game is somehow disrespectful, is unreal.

During the BB game is when the most UM fans are going to be on and checking twitter, tweeting out the FB info is exactly what UM fans would WANT to see and the MOST LIKELY time that they'll see it.

Get out of your bubble, 98% of UM fans are not on twitter, ever (even students). It's so niche and only utilized by a VERY hardcore and specific type of fan (e.g some. tailgaiters are definitely hardcore yet most will never use twitter a day in their lives).

Seeing it as offensive takes an unreal lack of awareness and perspective.

It's an awesome tweet. But it's not required for Harbuagh to be a cheer leader for the basketball team.

It sure as hell makes the athletic dept feel more like a community when all the coaches and teams support eachother.  Hopefully with Crean out we see Jimmy around more often at the bball games.  It can't hurt recruiting either, he's the biggest celebrity Michigan has outside of Tom Brady.

How many tweets did Beilein make about the football team during football season?  I have no clue. If he didn't, does it mean that Beilein doesn't support the football team?  Of course not.  Since Harbaugh has arrived I can't think of any instances that made me question whether the athletic department "felt" like it wasn't a strongly knit community.

I don't know the answer to this, but if he's not active on twitter, of course he wouldn't tweet about the football team.

Harbaugh tweets about a lot of random things so it would be weird if he didn't show support for the bball team, which he clearly does, so no need for anyone to get upset.

This is a totally unfounded rumor that someone told me at a gym in Ann Arbor, with zero source other than, "I've heard," so I never gave it any credence, but the rumor was that Harbaugh was working behind the scenes to get Beilein fired and bring in someone along the lines of Calipari. (So many reasons I cannot believe that ever happened.) But the thing is, if Harbaugh had just been a bit supportive of the basketball team the past two years, would anyone be spreading those rumors?

Why would people take offense to that? He's obviously been working his ass off. Hitting the recruiting trail hard and obviously monitoring the team during workouts and the spring combine!

I don't tweet, ergo I am not?

And didn't the Harbaughs have a premature baby recently?  Was the bball season foremost in his mind?  I bet today (unfounded rumor from my imagination) he was sitting in front of the TV feeding the little babe with bottled [whole] milk so Sara could take a break, with the devious plan of making sure the colors and music and cheers of Michigan permeated the developing little brain.
