It sounds like the physical altercation was mild and mutual, but I imagine that Michigan's domestic violence laws are much like California's: even if a physical confrontation is mutual, the "dominant aggressor" (usually the bigger and stronger one) will be the one arrested, even if they weren't the first party to become physical. Guys, if it looks like an argument is going that way, get out of there immediately. What you might see as defending yourself may look very different in the eyes of the law. Although there are very rare circumstances where it could be legally justifiable, putting your hands on a woman is a very bad idea.

a Michigan athlete before he has a chance to go to court and tell his side of the story.

Your last sentence seems to indicate we should throw someone who has a excellent reputation as a good young man, under the bus, to be consistent. We will very likely never know the whole story, since there will likely be a plea bargain to save the taxpayer's money and put this behind Jourdan.

I'm not trashing Jourdan unless more evidence comes out because this is totally out of character for him.

think he is saying that at all. I thnk the OP is stating that we (as a fanbase) are prone to going after student athletes from other schools before the whole story comes out and more likely to defend our student athletes with a "wait and see" approach. Which, I would agree with. It seems like you must know JL, because I couldn't ever know what is or isn't out of character for a student athlete that I didn't have a relationship with. This is obviously a pretty crappy situation for everyone involved, and I hope both parties have learned a valuable lesson.

He was offered a pre-trial intervention program which would drop all charges if he completed probation but he would have to plead guilty. That's a much sweeter deal than going to trial, but it would have killed his draft stock.

Lewis' girlfriend called police and said there had been a physical altercation at the residence, but officers initially were unable to determine who was the responsible party, he said.

"It wasn't clear to the officers (Wednesday morning) if there was an assault, or who the aggressor was," he added.

So yeah.

This is so stupid that we all put up with this. If he is found guilty, his future employers or interviewers will see this and think he is a thug and a threat to society. Domestic violence can be so many things and leaves people to draw all kinds of conclusions. This is just a dumb little boyfriend and girlfriend fight and should be labeled as that. Idiot law makers. Not even a scratch on her. He probably told her to shut the hell up and said she is crazy because she wouldn't stop yelling at him and saying things she shouldn't. That gives her the right to call the cops on him press charges? Idiots. I believe in abiding by the law but this so dumb.

To just keep to the facts.  Lewis was charged.  Lewis pleads not guilty.  It's so funny when people try to summarize facts that's just complete hearsay.  Let the process run its course.  We don't need you to try to own what happened as if you were there.  Or make judgments on what he did or didn't do based on the fact that you liked him as a football player.  Irrelevant.  If he did it, shame on him.  If he didn't, good for him hopefully he's exonerated.

I was accused twice by an ex. Once I was actually outside the country. If he is exonerated, does she then get charged for DV? Of course not. And, why is he not allowed to return TO HIS OWN PLACE? The guy is always guilty, but studies indicate the female is the initial instigator more than 60% of the time. Not a level playing field. Get her ass outta yo live, JB.

I don't understand why hitting women is so much worse than hottinrba man ? Nobody should be hitting any other human (other than self defense). Especially since women want equal rights, or do they not want equal rights and actually want better treatment ? I really don't know. But we live in a world where a women can strike a guy 15 times and then the guy slapped her once and goes to prison. That's fucked.

There is a group of women that want equal outcome not equal treatment.  Women would HATE IT if men treated them like they treat other men. On average women  aren't as strong.  There are different hormone levels on average.  They can literally create life in their belly so that's a little different than men.  They should be respected, treated well, and the differences celebrated, but not be treated exactly the same.  That's crazy talk.  Men almost never get the benefit of the doubt when it comes to domestic violence because of these differences that we have to pretend don't exist depending on the situation and who benefits in that instance.
