Good looking out!
P.S. Those Gentry numbers are really impressive. I'd like to see what he can do out there with Bunting, Wheatley Jr. and McKeon/Eubanks.
Will probably boot a 65 yarder against the wind.

- we were bootin' against the wind." - Bob Seger
I remember seeing him only once during the season, and that was the blocked extra point at the end of the FSU game. There was this really tall guy hauling ass down the field behind Metellus. Yep, Gentry. He was in there apparently for kick-blocking reasons.

But it seems like there is more of a need at TE so hopefully he can block a little.
Not just a kicker.
no kidding, his vertical is 1" higher than Gary's.
These seem like pretty non-fake numbers. I'm surprised that Evans was as slow as he is in the 40--4.6 ish isn't nearly as fast as I was expecting from him. Given that speed is a significant part of his game, that's interesting.
OTOH Rashan Gary is blazing fast. And look at those Zach Gentry numbers! If Gentry can competently do one of running routes, catching passes, and/or blocking, he's going to contribute this season.
I love that they're doing this. Usually we hear a number when a guy is recruited and then again at the NFL combine. This gives us real information, gives players a chance to prepare for a real part of the NFL process, and encourages good intrasquad competition. Pretty awesome.
A tad surprised that Higdon didn't have a better 40-time than Evans.
I've never seen him run north of 4.6. Going to have to get an explanation in this one haha. Great job by Chris though overall. Impressive numbers!
Odds are that's not the best time Evans has run if it makes you feel better.
I know people like one number, but a player's 40 time isn't really that (ex: 4.6 time is usually a 4.5-4.7 guy who tested in the middle of his range).
The crazy thing is to look at Gary's numbers and think that is just how he happened to perform on a given day in the middle of winter conditioning.

And Evans has uniquely quick feet that his 40 time does not portray.
DPJ is just a freak. He's gonna be fun to watch. Wow.
He could probably lower it more than a full 0.1s by preparing to run it like pros do before the combine...DPJ's numers are sick

Rashan Gary is faster than Chris Evans. Rashan Gary at RB anyone?
Track speed is different than game speed. Very few times will a football player run straight unimpeded for 40 yards.
A guy running a 4.6 40 is fast. The difference between a 4.6 and a 4.4. could very well be an efficient start out of a track stance. Maybe Evans doesn't have a good start out of a track stance. We all know he is fast when already on the move coming off of a cut. And at the end of the day that is all that matters.
Jon Runyan is apprently athletic as fuck. Lets hope that means something on the football field.
That's honestly what caught my eye. Impressive.

Seeing that it would surprise me if he is not right in the mix for a spot.
Younger less developed athletic guys can make a huge jump as they physically mature. Let's hope we are seeing signs of that.
Who here would have bet Runyan against Onwenhu and the field throwing a powerball?
then I remembered there was a non-zero chance Onwenu said, "Holy shit, that's a big ass grape," and then consumed it.

we'll see expedited improvement. Same for Mallory. Still remember Bo's last recruitment of Bill Mallory's kids. He was having a conversation with an assisting when he heard there was one who hadn't been offered. "He's a Mallory?" "Yup". "Offer him." Now that is putting some thought into your offers
4.57 40-yd dash for Rashan Gary! I guess we know which one is nicknamed Lightning between him and Solomon.
So....put Gary at HB for a little more speed?
Why the hell not, especially for short yardage situations...could you imagine the impact he would have on defender with a 7yard head start?
returning kicks. Could you imagine him getting up to full speed on a kick return? Who is going to try to tackle him?
Sooo, Rashan Gary is currently our fastest LB. Interesting.
Gary for VIPER!!!
I find that hard to believe Evans 40 is slower than Garys. But in Saying that Gary's 40 is fcn unreal for a 300 lb guy. Figured there would be more 4.4s in the 40 then the one. But DPJ is an athlete for sure.
There's not a lot of 4.4s in profesional athletes. So there would certainly be less in collegiate athletes.
Of course we don't know who competed and who didn't...
Peters vs. Sessa is going to be the QB controversy going into the fall?
Sessa is 6' 8". I suppose we should expect to see him at TE before too long.
Peters with the sub-5 time could be usable in the very occasional QB veer play if/when he plays. We'll see.
Please no more Sugar Shane package-esque plays.
I doubt that Peters would get on the field for that sort of thing. But if/when he starts, defenses might have to account for him if Harbaugh runs the occasional read option play that we've seen from him before (including, two or three times, with not-so-fast Wilton Speight). It won't be a core play of the offense, but it can be a tool.
Now's the time to get hyped about Team 138!!!
GO BLUE!!
Don't know who WR Schonel is.
Me either. I looked up the 2016 and 2017 PWO's and couldn't find his name.
Caveot: As Stu McGill said "The best athletes rarely outperform their peers in pre-season testing like bench pressing and squatting. Their distinguishing qualities are motor control. The ability to exert strength quickly, deactivate muscle quickly, and optimally project forces throughout the body linkage is characteristic of this skill."
That being said, DPJ has some amazing athletic qualities to build from and I'm excited to see what he can do.
The test was specfically for everything you just wrote. There was no benching and squatting in the combine. Did you look at the tweet?
A bit of football news amidst the basketball news is welcome as always.
Pretty sure my 40-time at this point in my life would be more Eisen than Gary, but hoping that some of these stats are preludes to what we get to see this fall.
is twice as good as Gary's. I run a 9.14.
Good line
My broad jump is better than anyone on the team besides peoples Jones. About to take a video and send it to harbuagh.
Oh my rashan Gary really put down a 4.57!!?!?!?! Once all this talent translates to the field, he gone
Jesus tap dancing Christ. DPJ is just out of HS and he's already running a 4.41?
He is going to make life a living hell for opposing secondaries for the next 3-4 years.
This tweet is a who's who of "I'm going to have a play package just for this guy."
Runyan, good lord.
Gary ran faster than presumably our starting RB.
