OT: Services for notifying when Michigan / your team is playing nearby?
Watching the Michigan-Mercer Lacrosse game going on down in Macon, GA, reminded me that I've always wanted to find some type of service that would:
- let you pick teams you were interested in (e.g. Michigan Football, Michigan softball, Detroit Pistons)
- a radius you would be willing to travel (i.e. 100 miles)
- give you notification when one of your teams is going to be playing within your radius
As an alum out of state, I'd definitely go to any number of Michigan teams' games if they were within 30-60 minutes of me but without staying really on the ball with a bunch of different team's schedules, I'm likely to miss a number of them.
I actually have always thought this would be something cool for Michigan's AD to offer via email lists to take advantage of Michigan's huge fanbase. I'm gonna guess, for example, that when Michigan softball is playing a tournament in California that most of the fans and alums in that area have no clue and would potentially attend if they were aware
Anyone know of any 'away fan' type services that notifies you when one of your favorite teams is playing nearby? If not, any of you smart people want to steal this idea and make a website of it?
So...have you guys heard of "Hamilton"?
I'm not sure, but like Brady Hoke, he didn't like red
Will your driver be taking you in your caviar-fueled Rolls Royce?
In June and July, there have been points in my time here as a lurker and then active user - nearly 9 years in total - where there has been 14-16 hours between new threads, driven in part by the uncertainty surrounding whether or not you should personally be involved in - and post a thread regarding - expressing your dog's anal glands.
Our vet used to call the anal glands "anal sacks". He had a bit of an accent, so it it took my wife and I a while to realize he wasn't talking about sodomizing our dog.
There is. MGoBlue uses Google Calendar.
You can download the entire athletics calendar to your google account and set the notifications as far out as you want to.
It tells you the opponent, the time and the location when the notification goes off.
Want to sync any of our U-M Athletics events straight to your calendar? Do it now.

but it doesn't seem to solve the issue of only wanting to know about events in my area. I don't really want to get hundreds of notifications to find the 1 or 2 times a year a Michigan team is in town
They make robots that will vacuum your house on a schedule and recharge themself when finished.
That doesn't help your problem, but why don't you just read where the games are and determine whether they're close enough or not?
IF distance between home and Michigan Game < 100
Alert = 1;
ELSE
Alert = 0;
END
I'm glad to see I'm not the only one that spends a lot of time on SpankMe-Hub®
This doesn't seem like an un-met need to me. Are you really going to drive 60 minutes each way for ANY!!! Michigan sports? Lacrosse, women's volleyball, men's wrestling, swimming etc?
I think most people would watch one thing they are interested in, and for professional sports, you know which division the team is in, and who is in that division. And its not like there are a ton of away games in one location - you live in Altanta, how many Lions or Tigers games could there be?
Sounds cool in principle, but would take a lot of effort to coordinate that, when most people are really interested in a one or two sports.
but if you're an alum/fan out of state, living in San Antonio for example, you may be interested in hearing about whenever a Michigan team was in San Antonio. I know Michigan is in my city so infrequently that I'd be tempted to go see some truly random sports if they were playing someone here (then again I also have many fake points on a Michigan site so I am probably not your average fan)
I am an out of state alum (haven't live in MI since 2005), but I wouldn't drive 2 hours round trip for a wrestling match. I have driven for hours one way to watch basketball and football games.
