Bracketology - Michigan still a 9 seed

Submitted by COLBlue on

Bracketology has been updated this morning by both Jerry Palm and Joe Lundardi - Michigan is still a 9 seed in both (playing in the west region in both)

Would much rather be a 10 than an 8/9. 7s aren't usually much better than 8/9/10 and you avoid the 1s. Regardless, even the 6s usually have a tough matchups with the 3s in the second round, so getting into the Sweet 16 is a real accomplishment.

Edit: Or what Walter said below. I'm out of my element. You can call me Donnie.

per the kenpom ratings.  After Gonzaga, everyone 2-11ish is pretty tightly bunched.  I don't fear the 1s much more than the 2s or even 3s this year, so I wouldn't mind an 8/9 as much as past years.  In some other years, like 2015, when Kentucky, Wisconsin, Duke and Arizonawere head and shoulders ahead of the pack  (and three one seeds made the Final Four) , I would totally agree with a 10 seed over a 8/9.

My prediction: at least one 1 seed loses second round, only two make it to the elite 8 and only one to the Final Four.

we're the 2nd ranked 10 seed in the bracket matrix, and are included in every bracket.  of those updated today, we average a 10 seed, with a low of 8 and a high of 12.  the site that has us as a 12 is massey ratings.

That puts us in decent shape.  I think/hope that we'll see some fire against the boilers and pick up a huge win.  Hopefully, that will carry over at Northwestern and Nebraska.  We definitely control our own destiny.

GO BLUE!!

Right now, Michigan is getting what they deserve. There's no use in crying over spilt milk. If Michigan had beat Virginia Tech, Iowa, and Ohio State, things would look a lot different now. If Michigan had also beat Wisconsin (at Wisconsin) and Minnesota, it would look even better. But Michigan didn't do that.

I'm just hoping that Michigan's shooting is on, their defense is on, and they don't get jobbed by the refs.

Staee should be out or in the first four. Will depend on how everyone finshes but it feels like they are getting a pass because of Izzo. Interesting to see how they finish without Harris.

How is Clemson still on the bubble?  They are 4-11 in conference play.  The best they can finish is 7-11.  I dont think a 7-11 conference team has ever gotten an at-large bid.  I think there were a couple of times a few 8-10 teams got at-large bids, but never 7-11.

Goes to show how soft the bubble is this year I guess.

expanded everyone is surprised how soft the bubble is.  It is not super difficult to make it.

But yes, the ACC is absurdly deep this year.  The mid-major heyday from a decade or so ago seems to be completely dead.  There was a time when the MVC was getting 4-5 at-large bids!!  And some major conferences were getting less than that.  The big boys certainly reign supreme in college basketball these days with a team that far under .500 in league play to be on the bubble.

9 conference and 20 wins gets us in...anything extra and we start moving down seed lines.

ONLY way we miss at this point  is 1-3 (including BTT) or 0-4 down the stretch.
