That went away a few years ago. Michigan played Iowa the second week of November at night. Nebraska/OSU was the week before. I also think there was a lower tier night game on BTN every week in November.

1. I'm not against night games. Actually, I think we could have a couple a year . . . one non-conference game, and one conference game. I'd prefer that night games be over with by mid. October.
2. What I don't understand is why it is necessary that a night game be against a marquee opponent. Michigan is ALWAYS going to have a full house against MSU and OSU. That being the case, why not have night games against tier two opponents? That way, all the people who are really hot for a night game can get pumped up to play San Jose State or Northwestern or Illinois or Purdue or Indiana or Rugers or Maryland at NIGHT!!
3. I can grant that Michigan could theoretically play OSU or MSU or PSU at night. Still think that specifically against MSU, you are more likely to have trouble. Just my opinion. But maybe not. Which is why I said that fine, go ahead and try a night game against the Big 3 from Michigan's perspective, and see how it goes.
4. Regarding whining, I have no need to whine . . . I like things just the way they are right now. I support Coach Harbaugh. If he doesn't want night games, that's good enough for me. (And if he wanted night games, you can bet we would be having them!)

EDIT:  I do believe that if night games become a regular thing, it will have some kind of impact on tailgating and who goes to the game. More specifically, there has always been a significant group of attendees who make a full day of it, getting up early to drive the van or RV to Ann Arbor from the Detroit metro area, from GR, from Bay City and Saginaw and Kalamazoo and Chicago. Many of these folks would leave at 5 or 6 in the morning, and are home by 10pm. Even with stopping for dinner in town or on the roads. That works well when you are going with a group, and when you have kids. Now, assume the game is over around 11pm. You get to your car by midnight. You're home by 1am? 2am? Later? That just doesn't work. Especially with a cranky wife and wiped out grade school or high school kids. Last year, after the Wisconsin game, the traffic on 94 was backed up pretty much all the way to Kalamazoo. And I was going to Chicago. I am not a blue-haired retiree. Some of you will counter, get a room and stay overnight. The problem is three-fold. First, getting a room means adding a huge chunk of expense which day trippers want to avoid. Second, there isn't the room capacity in Ann Arbor. You can't find rooms now . . . and you want to add demain for maybe 5,000 more rooms? Third, time involved. A full day is one thing. A full weekend? It just isn't worth it, because there are other things to do with life. Night game? Yeah, I'll pass. Let those who want to go, go. I'll DVR the game, start it a half hour to an hour in, shut off my phone, enjoy good food, drink, friends, hi-def TV, no commercials be done watching about the same time the game is over in real time, and be home and in bed within a half hour.

People love to beat up the "tradition" straw man, but there are practical reasons why some fans (particularly those who have to drive in from long distances) do not want night games.  I'm fortunate enough to live close to campus so they aren't an issue to me, but I can understand why someone who has to drive 3-4 hours to A2 might not want one.
