OT-NBA All Star Game

Submitted by Bo248 on
I'm so happy a watched MBB (in spite of the outcome) last night instead of the NBA Side Ring Circus called the All Star Game. I read this morning the final score was 192-182. I watched some highlights of the dunk fest. To call it a 'game' is surely a jest. Does anyone even care about that game any more? At one point Steph Curry was laying on the floor like a prop and and guys were jumping over him to dunk like a Globetrotter's game.

I know I speak for the rest of the board when I say we all woke up this morning wondering what Bo248 thought about the NBA All Star game.  Did it meet his expectation or fall short? (sounds to me like it wasnt as good as you hoped - sorry about that).

Please check back in and let us know how your lunch turned out.  I know I'll be waiting eagerly for the update.

Everybody could see I was being massively sarcastic when I said I know I speak for the rest of the board.

Look - came off harsher than intended but so let me rephrase it.  I do not like feelingz posts with nothing but hot takez and zero content.  Should have just said that.

Actually I should've just said nothing and downvoted the post.  It's Monday.

I wish there was a way to give credit for simply not being a doosh in the first place. Those are the real adults.  I'll give it a shot: to all you silent MGoBloggers who refrain from being insufferably smug and unnecessarily snarky (on a Monday morning or otherwise), good job!  +1 to you, sincerely.  You make this place enjoyable.

It's a comment, not a post.  I didnt create a thread to tell the world I dont like feelingz posts.  I posted my comment in a thread.

The OP created a thread to tell everyone he didnt watch the All Star game.  Not that he watched it and didnt like it.  Not that he watched it and thought it was awesome.  The post was about him not watching something.

No idea it was all-star weekend until like Saturday night when I saw a story.

These all-star games just keep falling further and further into the depths of hell. The dunk contest was pretty cool in its infancy because you kept seeing things you would never see. Now, everything's been done. Much like the NHL and NFL, the games are just shit shows.

The All-Star Game used to be fun in the 90s, but has become a joke lately and this year's version just proved that. The fact that both teams had almost 100 at halftime is a travesty. How can anyone actually be entertained by that? There has to be some semblance of defense in this game. I know they are selling it as "just an exhibition," but the guys can at least try to play defense.

EDIT: Also, the dunk contest needs to be scrapped for a few years or have the thing every other or two years. I'm glad Glenn won, but this year's contest was weak as shit. I mean come on...how many times do we need to see a player jump over an obstacle (whether that is people or a thing, whatever) and dunk a ball? I feel like every year, the crowd is less and less dazzled. Why? Because we have seen just about every dunk. It was way more fun back in the day.

Yeah I think they should just get rid of all props/assistants for the dunk contest next year. That Intel® drone that just dropped the ball was dumb as hell.

Or just find a way to convince bigger names to enter the dunk contest. Westbrook, Davis, Antetokounmpo, LeBron, Paul George, DeRozan, etc. Those are the guys everyone wants to see.

Years ago, you would only see stars from the other conference/league once or twice a year when the hometown team played cross over games.

In baseball, you might never see stars from say the National league if you lived in an AL city, expect for a possibly appearance in the playoffs or World Series.

This made All Star games interesting - to see players you would otherwise rarely see.

Now that you can basically watch any team you want any time you want, the novelty of seeing stars you rarely see is gone, the All Star games have lost their entire purpose and should be scrapped.

I'm also a bit of a homer and when the Association doesn't force the two sides to pick a "representative" from each team like MLB (which I do think is rediculous) does then it lacks even more for me.  GRIII is probably the only reason I tuned into the dunk contest and not having any of my Pistons on the East provided even less interest.

FWIW - I did think Drummond belonged in over Carmelo for that last spot due to Love's injury.  Again, probably just me being a homer.

I used to look forward to the All-Star Weekend, but at some point in the last decade I stopped watching, and I don't really miss it.

The ASG itself was always pretty bad, even in the MJ era, outside of maybe the end the 4th quarter if it was close.  I did use to like the Saturday events but the dunk contest got stale, with too many missed dunks or ones we'd seen before.   The one event that I think is still kind of interesting is the 3-point shootout, but I always forget when it's on and haven't actually seen it in several years.

The best part of the All-Star weekend is definitely the three point contest. I used to love the dunk contest, but as I stated above, just about everyone and I have seen it all. There isn't much creativity anymore. Of course last night, that guy used a drone, but never made it. Plus, it's the same thing as using someone to bounce a ball, catch, and dunk it, which we have seen a thousand times. That is, unfortunately, where the contest has been going lately - using props instead.

but that team is basically  two Super-Duper star front court players, a solid (but injury prone) PG (That happens to be a free agent), and hot garbage. I wouldn't want to touch that job unless they could bring in a really smart GM, because this team needs LOADS of work.

I watched the All Star Game instead of the Michigan game (due to not having BTN more than anything) and thoroughly enjoyed it. It was fun as an All Star Game is supposed to be. The only drawback was Reggie Miller color commentating.

After MBB and then watching TWD...it's about what I expected with a very high score and thus no defense to speak of.  I personally enjoy the Saturday lineup better than the game itself.  The skills comp has become my favorite part over the last few years.

...put on for casual fans & children.  Who cares if they're non-competivie?  I've got a four-year old niece that thinks dunks & watching dudes hoist 30-footers is the coolest thing ever.  She LOVES the All-Star Game.

Why are you ragging on him over this point? How many times on here has someone said, "I become a fan when I was a little kid and my parent took me to a game, and I was instantly hooked?"

Or how many people love Star Wars because they saw it in theaters as kids?

Kids liking something, and falling in love with it and becoming lifelong fans, is not some crazy concept
