How do you think we're going to lose to Nebraska, but beat Purdue (arguably the most talented team in the conference)?

My thoughts:

  • MSU: Loss
  • Indiana: Win (we match up really well against them, they're injured and have been more vulnerable at home than they have been in a while)
  • Wisconsin: Loss (Will probably be another close game, but we will lose yet again. This is the one program that we just are incapable of beating in a close game)
  • Minnesota: Win (Gophers are overrated, always slump at the end of the season, and The Barn has been one of the few road venues we traditionally overperform in)
  • Rutgers: Win
  • Purdue: Loss
  • Northwestern: Loss
  • Nebraska: Win

That would leave us at 8-10 in the conference, which I don't think would be able to get us an at large bid under 99% of circumstances (unless we make it to the tournament championship game and a few other key bubble teams perform badly in their tournaments, etc.)

0-8, Beiline fired for never winning a game his entire 10 year career at Michigan, but we had to keep him the whole time cuz his contract from day one was 10 years, 100 million dollars with a 3 billion dollar buy out because he's kirk ferentz and we are corn.

Is that we either do very well and instill some sort of confidence in me(I don't have much left sadly), or poorly enough for Warde to make a move.  Worst case scenario would be right in the middle or slightly worse and not making the tourney, then changing nothing with the coaching staff.

Will lead to:

1. Fewer posts in game threads as people keep losing interest in the team

2. More empty seats at Crisler

3. Lots and lots of "Fire Beilein" threads

4. The start of threads where posters "remind" us of all the great stuff Beilein has done as a coach and why people are being unfair calling for a change (See Hoke, Brady circa November, 2014 for reference)

5. Brian writing something really, really good on the subject on the front page as it becomes clearer we're not going to the tourny

6. Increasing number of "CC candidate" threads.  These will start out realistic but within a week or so will digress into "CC - John Wooden" and other nonsense.

7. Increasingly angry posts by the remaining people in basketball game threads as the sason ends.  One or two well-known users will say somtehing really offensive and get caved.

I've seen this movie.  I know how it ends.

I could see them going 5-3 if Irvin plays well, 2-6 otherwise. The one silver lining is they nearly won two games with terrible performances by Irvin. Even average ones and they won both comfortably.

IU was an anomaly
MSU, Wisky and Purdue all L's. Swanigan may get 50 and 20.
The rest are on the road, automatic L's.

3-5, beating Nebraska, Rutgers and Minnesota

MSU beats us because they just flat out want it more. They almost always do. We lose at IU because we always lose there. We lose to Wisconsin because Beilein has only ever beaten them twice in 18 tries. Purdue is going to out-muscle us up and down the court. And Northwestern just because for once they're a decent basketball team.

Get bounced in the first round of the BTT, and a bubble team for the NIT.

Year of Revenge II

I predict inconsistency extroadinaire, lack of defensive play and effort to move their feet when on D, turnovers on out-of-bounds plays while opponents get lay-ins on theirs, ill-advised and untimely shots/turnovers by Irvin, silly reach-in fouls by Wagner limiting his time on court, near complete and utter failure to box out when opponents take a shot, and win(s) in game(s) where 3-balls are falling.

My guess---3-7 with one of the wins coming in the Big Ten tourney.

Beilein returns unless he decides to retire.

More of same next year.  The names will be changed to protect the innocent.

We need to go 5-3.  4-4 is more likely.  We're winning more than 3 fucking games though, and I've been down on this team when it looks bad (i.e. Saturday).

vs msu - Must Win

at IU - A likely loss.  BUT hey, we're still okay. (However, they are wounded and another win would be huge and get us back in the last 4 in)

vs UW - Not a must win, but sort of.

at MINN - Not a must win, but if we lose to Wiscy, it's a must.

at RU -  Must win, and we will.

vs PU -  Almost must win...1 of 2 is needed between Northwestern and Purdue.

at NU - I see this as a loss but it's okay.

at NEB - Another possible loss but if it's only the 4th loss of the final 8, we're barely but still very much alive if we have wins over Wisconsin and Purdue.

We just lost to OSU at home. I have a hard time seeing any more wins with that schedule. The worst teams on it are on the road and we can't win true road games. So 0-8 is a very real possibility.

Jesus some of you need to get a grip.  We may not be a Tourney team but holy cow, Rutgers damn near and should've beat Wisconsin.  Sparty lost to Northeastern.  Shit happens.  Ohio St. is not exactly good but they seemed a difficult matchup that particular Saturday night.  It isn't the end of the program, though, even though it ruined my evening.

But back to you doom 'n gloomers, we're not finishing nor is it even remotely possible we finish, 0-8.
