It's not a competition for now, the annual competition will probably still happen in April. Aim the money cannon anyways. I went for $13.90, because $3.90 felt far too low.

I'm so goddamn sick and tired of people here who think that hating President Trump gives them some kind of pass to post their political bullshit here.
This used to be a place where I could go to talk UM athletics with people from all walks of life and political views. What makes it work is that we used to avoid political commentary. Then along comes these assholes who just can't resist throwing a political stink bomb and ruining it for everyone.
I enjoy this forum and would enjoy it a lot more if people would save their political commentary for Mlive or some other sewer.

This has been ongoing for years now.  Spencer's got a freaking anime tattoo with a Michigan block M on it.  Don't donate; that's fine.  But stop acting all offended that a link about a charity you clearly don't care about was mentioned in a board post.

The president is a political figure. He has placed himself at the center of this issue with his rhetoric and his actions. The issue, however, is not a political one. It is a humanitarian issue. This isnt about the wall, which is a political issue. We are talking about human lives and human rights. The fact that our President is on the wrong side of a humanitarian issue is not a political statement or discussion. It is a fact.

Yes. I was absolutely disappointed in that decision as well. Just so you know that I am not presenting a partisan argument here, you should know that I have been been voting for less than a decade. I have actually cast ballots for Democrats and Republicans. I truely do not identify with either party.

The USA already has the most intense and extreme vetting progress for immigrants anywhere in the world. It is not even close. Every green card that has ever been granted has come after (on average) years of interviews, fingerprinting, and background checks through every channel imaginable. It is already harder to get into this country from anywhere else than it is to get a government clearance once you are here.

Trump's ban is blatantly targeted at Muslims. It is inhumane, and, in my opinion, Unamerican.

about an annual charity contest that's posted here every year that just so happens to be starting early this year for obvious reasons.

The content of Spencer's post is absolutely political. OP did a great job about keeping neutral and simply linking the drive. The first person to bring up any sort of politics in this thread was you, somehow incensed that people feel the need to give money to help refugees. That makes you an asshole.

You really want to litigate that particular factual here?  How about you go post in literally any other thread.  Oh wait, it's because you really do like political posts because it lets you get all indignant and act victimized that perhaps your views on mentioning a charity on this blog that happens to be deeply connected to a major issue in this country are not that popular?

This is a false fact.  I don't care what your political viewpoint is, but you should arm yourself with actual facts if you want credibility.  In 2011, 2 Iraqis were arrested for plotting an attack, and as a result, Obama ordered closer vetting of refugees from Iraq; there was no actual ban.  In 2017, in response to absolutely nothing, a blanket ban was imposed on all people originating from 7 countries, no matter their legal status, leaving American Green Card holders stranded overseas, as well as refugees who had already passed the 1-2 year vetting process.  If you can't tell the difference between the two, then your ideology has blinded you.

Every year EDSBS holds a charity drive with the proceeds going to organizations that specialize in helping refugees accross the US. Normally the drive is in April, and it still will be in April. Every year that drive is heavily publicized on this blog, with no complaints, and Michigan fans donate the most money, winning the drive.

This year, due to well-known political occurences, EDSBS has decided to run a seocndary drive. Considering all that is happening in the world right now with regards to refugees, and how passionate and involved with helping refugees EDSBS is, it makes plenty of sense to hold a new drive at this time.

Supporting this drive or donating to this drive does not have to political in the slightest. No matter your political views, one can appreciate the fact that now more than ever refugee groups need support in every way possible. It is a backbone of this country to help and harbor those in need and allow those from other areas to find haven here. That is what this drive is for, allowing that cause to continue. A political action may have catalyzed this specific drive, but supporting it does not have to be political in nature.

This post was not political until you made it so. You are the one who threw a political stink bomb. You are the one ruining fun. There was no political commentary until you said something. This post had nothing to do with hating Trump. I'm sorry you feel the need to defend yourself or Trump in that regard, no one meant for you to have to project your inner feelings onto this post.

But more importantly: no one cares what would make you enoy this forum more. Let me rephrase: If what would allow you to enoy this forum more is the absence of a charity drive, that has no political leaning whatsoever, and is immensley helpful in a time when help is needed, then no one cares. Especially when your only reason for wanting it gone is because seeing it makes you feel bad about your life decisions or you're just that insensitive.

"This has happened because the current administration has actively embraced harming the least of these to benefit the consolidation of their political base."
No, this want political at all...

Then stop coming here? Like I don't know what else to tell you champ.

If you're incapable of looking at a humanitarian post with political undetones and separating the politics of it from the humantarian side, that's your issue and not ours. Everyone else here seemed perfectly good at doing that. If your incompetence makes you "sick of it", then either leave or learn to deal with it. Because based on all the posts and votes so far, this is clearly a you issue and not an MGoBlog issue.
