WNIT Semifinal 3/31 7:00 vs. Miami
With Michigan's dismantling of Syracuse today 78-52, they reach the semifinals of a national tourament for the first time in program history.
They will host Miami (FL) on Wednesday at 7:00.
In the other seminfinal, Illinois St. will host California on Thurs. at 8:05 ET.
If Michigan and Cal both win, Michigan is almost certain to host the WNIT final (on Saturday). Not sure what will happen if IL St. wins. They had 4,459 fans at their game today (which they hosted against Illinois), while the attendance at Crisler today was a disappointing 2,190.
Despite the number, the crowd today was very loud and suuportive of the team. Hope more people show up on Wednesday.
Go Blue!
this team is absolutely murdering everyone they come across.
...WBB! Hopefully the result and the turnout on Wednesday will warrant us hosting the final on Saturday.
The attendance at the IL St. game today was likely swelled by Illinois fans, so we may be in better shape than I orginally thought. In IL St.'s previous WNIT game (vs. Kansas), their attendance was only 2,742.
Still hoping for a larger turnout at Crisler on Wednesday.
Nice to see that program starting to do well. If I were in Ann Arbor I would go.
Is about 40, because of the parents, the little kids, and the senior citizens. I'm not sure the band counts, and there were only about a dozen valiant Maize Ragers.
Be nice if maybe a few more could turn out Wednesday.
They brought two big bags of Jimmy John's subs in for the students. Seemed like a lot for just a dozen Maize Ragers. Did the remaining subs get passed out to other people in the area?
We certainly didn't get offered any (average family, dad/mom/daughter/son).
I was at the game today with some friends and i only saw a handful of students. We need to go out and support the team all the way. THEY DESERVE IT!!
If free tickets and free food aren't cutting it, how about this: be part of history--help the women's basketball program hang a banner at Crisler.
See this annarbor.com article for some good background, plus this quote from the head coach:
“I hope we’re building a fanbase with these wins,” Michigan coach Kevin Borseth said. “There’s nothing going on Wednesday, nothing on TV. I hope we get a lot of people here, 13 grand, just pack the house. I’d love to see that.”
I don't care if it's Miami (That Miami), I want vengeance.
who were at the game--and there weren't that many of them--seemed in a more depressed than vengeful state. Talked to a guy at halftime (when Michigan was up by about 20) who without a lot of conviction said Syracuse was going to mount a comeback in the second half. Said he had never seen the team play so poorly before.
I think the outcome was preordained: Syracuse's head coach was wearing a yellow shirt. Poor job of scouting on their part.
By the way, it was disturbing to see Syracuse's block "S" on the black-and-white programs they handed out. As the U-M guy at the door pointed out, at a quick glance it appeared Michigan was playing MSU.
My son was crushed. After Toledo brought their Rocketeer guy, he thought he was going to see the Orange, who is his second favorite mascot after Stanford's tree. (Yeah, my kid is pretty random.)
+1 either way.
Perhaps Otto the Orange was too "crushed" from the NCAA loss to Butler for another road trip.
