When I was a kid we had All in the Family, Mary Tyler Moore, Bob Newhart, and Carol Burnett all on the same night.  All Classics.  Probably no better line up on a single night in the history of Television.

For AITF fans, this cookbook is funny as hell.  Each recipe is prefaced with some related comment from Edith.  You can't help but read it in her voice, and the humor is true to her character.  I think we snagged it at a garage sale.  I don't know if the recipes are any good, I just read it for a laugh.

If memory serves, "The Jefferson's" was also part of that lineup, between All in the Family (8:00pm) and Mary Tyle Moore (9:00pm).  What a lineup.  Fantastic television.

Then at 11:30 on Channel 50 would be "The Ghoul".  Now there was some high-brow television.

This is a celebrity death.  Some of the so called celebrity deaths - not so much.

Pretty soon the local paperboy will be a celbrity death with the way social media is going.

for posting.  She was simply beautiful.

I'd say she was a cross between, say,  Donna Reed and Marilyn Monroe.  (Pushed boundaries, made her own brand, to call her "easy on the eyes" would be the biggest of understatements--to us guys who grew up watching her on TV...)

But she really was her own person, and she changed that industry for the better--which was her point.

she could really rock a sweater back then.  And NOBODY looked as sexy in Capri Pants.  She was so incredibly hot.

Yes, Laura Petrie was my first intense celebrity crush.  Her looks, her voice, her persona, what a perfect combination!  I regularly watched reruns of "The Dick VanDyke Show" because of the young Mary Tyler Moore.

RIP, MTM.  You are unforgettable.

Just wanted to be the first to somehow blame a calendar year for the death of an octogenarian.

(That aside, she was a great talent who also put a lot of energy to charitable causes.  All the best to her family as they go through the loss of someone who - to all appearances - lived a full life.)

[EDIT - Well, I was among the first!]

Watch it.  And be prepared to hate MTM's character like you've never hated somebody before.

FYI I made the mistake of taking a first date to that movie way back in the day.  I remember that because it was a lady I'd been trying forever to go out with and that movie put both of us in a terrible mood afterwards.

Great actress.  Sorry to see her go.

Do people really not realize that the whole "2016 was the celebrity killer year" thing is only natural? With more and more shows/news/venues to gain celebrity status, there are bound to be more celebrity deaths. 2017 is likely to have more than 2016, just the nature of news and entertainment.

But RIP to her all the same. I am too young to have seen her in her hayday, but I am sure she will be missed by many.

Yep. A lot,of the boomer generation or just prior are starting to pass on.

They are at that age. A special sadness for me is reserved for the WWII vets leaving us. They are dwindling rapidly. Soon that will be like the WWI generation and known only from the pages of history.

Regardless, RIP Mary Tyler Moore. An icon.

I noticed a vet with a WWII hat on while I was getting coffee a couple of months ago on an Air Force base.  He has a Battle of Bulge pin on his cap and not one troop spoke to him.  Blew me away.......a walking piece of history.  I chatted him up for 15 minutes.  Gave he and his  wife a hug and thanked him profusely.
