Solomon: "[Alabama] still leads big, but not by a huge margin."
January 18th, 2017 at 12:13 AM ^
I don't get it. There must be other things going on behind the scenes b/c the CBs are trending towards Michigan for a change late in the game.
Ryan Bartow is one of the more legit dudes at 247, so I wonder if this is just some classic crootin' by Soloman in public.
January 18th, 2017 at 6:40 AM ^
Don't do that.
January 18th, 2017 at 7:27 AM ^
Exactly. If you've learned anything from the recruiting process, the leading lesson is SPELL THEIR DAMN NAME CORRECTLY, you moran.
January 18th, 2017 at 9:03 AM ^
Got to get the 'recipe' for success correct.
If you're going to spell his name wrong, at least make it look really wrong. That way he can say "Oh, that's not me they are writing about".

Audrey would beat your ass and make ballz blue, that you dont want to be blue
January 18th, 2017 at 7:06 AM ^
if Saban is encouraging this "there's a chance" stuff in the recruiting sphere just to bait and embarrass Harbaugh.
January 18th, 2017 at 8:16 AM ^
Lol .....come on
January 18th, 2017 at 8:25 AM ^
I have wondered the same. Of course that probably makes me insane, but there it is.
January 18th, 2017 at 8:46 AM ^
Nick Saban has won four national championships. He has recruited the top class for the last 462 years straight. And he eats two Lil Debbie Cream Pies (TM) every morning with his coffee at 3:30 AM.
Nick Saban does not collude with recruits to embarass a coach in another conference, a coach he has never played and may never play a game against.
January 18th, 2017 at 10:40 AM ^
And ...
5-star kids like Aubrey get offers from EVERY school. Every school throws a letter at a kid like him, knowing they stand no chance. Highly touted kids gets stacks of letters, most of which they never even open
January 18th, 2017 at 9:44 AM ^
I could see Urban doing it. Not to embarrass JH but just to make him focus on a commit that's already set on OSU and waste his resources on that kid instead of being out there getting the next best dude.
January 18th, 2017 at 11:06 AM ^
Exactly. As a matter of fact I'd bet that Urban gives education on these tactics. All these successful recruiters know the ins and outs. Even if it doesn't benefit them it is still a mental win in their mind to make your rivals waste their time. How do you think these guys got to where they are? They had to slit a few throats on the way up.
January 18th, 2017 at 11:09 AM ^
I firmly believe it happened with Pryor
January 18th, 2017 at 10:50 AM ^
I could see him doing it, but not to embarass him. It isn't embarrassing to lose out on an elite prospect. However, if you think you have a chance then you will waste your resources on him, which could hurt your other recruiting.
January 18th, 2017 at 11:59 AM ^
Way too much risk in doing something like that. Yes, you KNOW you are solid with a kid, but encouraging him to talk to other coaches is a terrible idea. There is always a small chance he actually gets persuaded to flip. It's basically Indecent Proposal, which I've never actually seen but I think I know the story... I digress. Too risky, would not do it if my goal is to get players and win championships.
January 18th, 2017 at 12:18 PM ^
However, I do not think that was the case with Solomon. In fact, I think you would have to not have listened to Sam Webb's interview with his mom at the all Star game to think he is just playing with Michigan.
The lady loves Michigan. She was glowing about what the school gives you past football, her relationship with coach bush, and the specific internship programs that would be perfect for him. Michigan was number one of her top 3 and bama was not even in it. This woman is clearly not troll Michigan because saban asked her.
Solomon wants to go into nursing after football. It looks like bama has an OK nursing program and internship program to make him comfortable. Although, he has bama one and Michigan two because he seems to think going to bama gives him a better shot at a high draft pick. I think bama is very good at getting you to the pros, but they do have an advantage with the number one recruiting class every year. Michigan is going to send 4 dlineman in the class and zero were 4.5 stars or higher, unlike bama.
With all that being said, I think his mom pull may win out. Afterall, like I said mattison is a very good developer of dline, and he will be part of very physical defences if he goes to Michigan.
January 18th, 2017 at 10:31 AM ^
I think I get it....seems clear as day to me.... he is just another who is using us at the moment, for creating drama and attention, to make the announcement more interesting.... its a one big "Look at me".....
January 18th, 2017 at 12:27 PM ^
I take it you have not heard his mom, who is very important in his recruiting process, speak of Michigan?
If you had you would know there is no way he is just doing this for a "look at me" situation.
There is a reason top 247 analyst are putting crystal balls in for him. He may not end up in the class but this is not him wanting limelight.
January 18th, 2017 at 9:08 AM ^
I've often wondered about this. He seems to be very selective with the information that he passes along, to ensure the most negativity possible. Solomon also said the following, when discussing Coach Harbaugh's visit, but it wasn't included in his article:
“I was very surprised he brought his daughter,” Solomon told ESPN.com. “I didn’t think it was that serious, but it shows you how far Michigan is with me. It showed that I’m a big priority for Michigan and that they really care about family.”
“It was one of the best in-home visits ever. It was just a different setting to see a coach,” Solomon told ESPN.com of the U-M brigade. “My mom loved it, too, and was just shocked how engaging the coaches were, especially with my baby sister. His daughter and my sister got a long so well, it was just heartwarming and a great visit.”
January 17th, 2017 at 11:08 PM ^
Just wait until signing day. Seems like Solomon either knows exactly where he is going and is just doing this for fun, or he'll flip-flop a billion times before signing day. Either way, probably not worth reporting on it until NSD.
January 18th, 2017 at 4:50 AM ^
Everything points to Michigan except some of his comments. It looks like hes playing games and this is the reason Lorenz has him at cloudy. Wiltfong said he didnt think michigan had a chance after he decomitted and then named Bama his leader but he said Michigan has a legit shot yesterday. His mother is a huge influence in this recruitment and she, his family that hates Alabama and his pro-Michigan coaches is why the cbs are swinging Michigans way. I think hes Michigans to lose but crootin.
January 18th, 2017 at 9:05 AM ^
Totally agree. Think he wants to add some drama to signing day as you see a lot of kids do. Cb's are still coming in for Michigan. Want to see if Saban or Smart even get in homes. My guess is his Mother doesn't even want them in her house, but will see on that. Of course I bleed maize and blue and he is the biggest of gets, but really feel their is a lot trending for Michigan. I would take everything he says to the public with a grain of salt, period!. My feeling about kids who wait till NSD want to build excitement. To me this statement means nothing. Go Blue!!.
January 18th, 2017 at 11:09 AM ^
Except the video where he gives a list of reason why he isn't picking Michigan. In addition, he keeps telling everyone Bama is the leader. Oh by the way, Bama needs Dline guys probably worse than Michigan.
Solomon is telling people it's Bama. His mother, his coach, and recruiting insiders are saying they like Michigan. They aren't saying Michigan leads for Solomon.
January 18th, 2017 at 10:31 AM ^
Recruiting is interesting, to be sure, but there are times when it is best to just step away and say "whatever happens, happens" whenever it does, because trying to parse the tea leaves is just pointless. This is one of those times.
January 17th, 2017 at 11:10 PM ^
Jim probably told him to say this so we'll all have a pleasant surprise on signing day.

I dare you to drink 6 pints of a microbrew - any microbrew, as long as it's unpasteurized - then eat a dozen White Castles.

What shirt did his athletic trainer wear today?

You couldn't be more wrong. It's only 2 weeks to signing day.

Unless of course Aubrey doesn't sign for 4 more weeks.

That's assuming he decides on Signing Day. Which isn't required. You can extend your process well beyond signing day.
