All 11 early enrollees are enrolled

Submitted by Wolverine Devotee on

Very happy to report that all 11 early enrollees are in.

Donovan Peoples-Jones and Ambry Thomas were the last two to come in on the directory earlier this evening.

There was talk of MSU continuing to recruit Ambry Thomas all the way up to the Army game. Full court press.

Alas, they lose again. The directory says he's official.

Our 11 newly-minted Michigan Wolverines-

  • Ja'Raymond Hall, OT
  • Donovan Jeter, DE
  • Jaylen Kelly-Powell, S
  • Corey Malone-Hatcher, DE

Actually probably the least likely to play at OT. He might be a RT down the road but I see him ending up at guard.

Ideally, 3 years from now, our tackles from this class are Steuber (L) and Filiaga (R). Filiaga is the most college-ready of the bunch, but Steuber is going to be really good.

WRs are going to be so athletic next year, it is unbelievable. Big TEs and lightning WRs is the best combination for our new passing coordinator. Can't wait.

Probably not. Running back isn't a position of need. We really only recruited Harris because he's the #1 prospect and he was highly interested. Regardless it's of positional need, you never turn down elite talent. Even without Harris we still have 7 scholarship running backs. If Drake Johnson gets a 6th year, he would be 8. Of those, 5 are going to be freshmen and sophomores. Higdon is going to be a Junior and Isaac will be a 5th year.

So essentially it's a position that can definitely wait until next year

Sort of...but we did recruit 3 running backs BEFORE Najee Harris. We had Dillon, Taylor, and Samuels, and we were trying to get Harris, too. Now we have just two (Samuels, Taylor). It makes one wonder why we had 3 running backs to start and were going for a 4th, if we only needed 2.

Unless, of course, the staff was planning to get rid of someone and now they don't have the luxury of doing so...

I think we're on shaky ground with Samuels, but Harris to Alabama helps. I think he was gone for sure if Harris picked Michigan. Samuels also has some academic issues to work out, so that puts him on iffy ground by itself.

Was the shakey ground caused by his perception that if Harris joined the class then he'd be burried in the depth chart, or was he miffed that the staff was focused so intently on adding (then) a 4th RB?

In other words, does the Harris departure aleviate the issue, or is he possibly bitter?

I think the Harris "departure" alleviates the issue, but I do get the sense that Samuels was (and probably stll is) a little bitter that Michigan thought they needed to recruit over him.

Personally, I like Samuels. He's got that kick and that extra gear that make me think he could be a big-play guy. He reminds me of Ty Johnson at Maryland a little bit.
