Clearly The Harbs is big on collaboration, he and his staff has said so much. As an Offensive Collaborator this looks like a fantastic hire, as well as the effect on ancillary duties. The QB University distinction may have faded, (and may return) however if U-M becomes Coach U, I doubt anyone will be upset!

I don't you're not being politically correct at all...in fact, I think that this hire is going to make this coaching staff that much better at recruiting and relating to the players for the reason you outlined above.

Well, We Are Back, I'm glad you clarified that you were speaking of the American and male variety of black American football coaches.

I was going to suggest we look at some of those black Ugandan female American football coaches, along with the famous black English hermaphrodite American football coaches, not to mention the talented trans-gendered Tuvaluan black American football coaches association members who could quadruple dip in the recruiting resume department with their street cred as black, Polynesian, male AND female people.

However you've made me realize that in the age of Trump we should probably limit the search to the strictly male and American type of black coaches for both maximum relatability and acceptability. Thank you.

Apart from the unnecessary inclusion of "inner city," there's truth to your point. It's mostly human nature for people to feel a common connection and closeness to other people to whom they can relate, with race being one of those factors. Historically, big-time schools often had a black coach on the staff for that sole purpose. Bigger pictuee, given the dearth of black coaches in the college and pro ranks, Harbaugh's coaching tree has always been fascinating. Last I counted, there are 7 black head coaches at the FBS level, and 3 coached under Harbaugh at some point. Wheatley is poised to join that number at some point. Even before he returned to Michigan, I had long admired his willingness to hire black coaches and put them in position to move up the ranks.

In a general sense I agree with you. But I wouldn't go too far with that concept. I don't call it  a homerun because I don't even know the guy. Just being black doesn't mean you relate. 

At the end of the day it is about coaching and I want the best coach, no question about it. However I can tell you I was asked in early December if Harbaugh had brought in any black QBs. At that point the thought never crossed my mind. The answer was no and while I don't make anything of it you can be that someone out there has. 

Hiring a black coach, when there are so few black head coaches, is a big deal. Recruits and their parents do take note. 

I'm so tired of political correctness even being a consideration. While it may not be the case in every recruitment, being able to speak with a coach you believe truly understands your circumstances is certainly important to many athletes and parents. One of the recruits' mothers, I can't remember which, said exactly this in an interview, when talking about Gwen and Harbaugh.
