M Hoops v. Penn State Open Thread (?)

Submitted by ijohnb on
Wow, how far we have fallen. Half way through the first half and no open thread. There should be a drinking game called "drink when Walton misses a 3." People would get WASTED. 11-9 Penn State, 12 minutes to go 1st half.

The team not only sucks, but lacks any physical or mental toughness, has no leadership, and plays with absolutely no fire. Even with all of that, JB's seat is just as comfy as ever.

has to explode to the rim better and dunk those.  that is two drives to the rim now he missed because he didn't go up strong and dunk.  he did make the one.

There is a live Michigan basketball game on, I don't have shit else to do, and I'm going to choose not to watch it. I going to do dishes, or read or something. I am a die hard fan. This is a bad sign for Michigan hoops.

At 9PM, the Michigan hoops twitter feed posted a pic of Walton with the words "DW10 leading the charge"

At that point, he had zero points on 0-3 shooting (0-2 3PT).

This team is so meh. I honestly feel like people don't even care anymore. Crazy to think we were competing for National Championships just a couple years ago... Hopefully we can get back to that level within the next couple of years but idk if Beilein is the guy to make that happen. I think we'll be good under him but I think his best days are behind him.

I'd feel better about things if we had some good freshmen but only Xavier Simpson gets minutes and he has a long way to go. Next year will be brutal if we don't have any good freshmen.

years ago and it was apparent for those that wanted to pay attention.  Recruiting got markedly worse after the 2012 class.  That is the opposite of what should have been happening in the midst of an NC and Elite 8 run.  JB simply has failed to recruit like anything more than a perpetual bubble team.  The recruiting misses over the last 4 classes are too numerours to recount and thoroghly depressing.

The B1G has one team (Minnesota #10) in the RPI top 25. This doesn't seem to bode well for very many teams being invited to the tourney this year. Our one conference game so far is a loss to the lowest ranked B1G team, #145 Iowa.

10 10 Minnesota Big Ten 13-2 1-1 1-0 11-1 0-0
30 25 Illinois Big Ten 11-4 0-1 3-2 7-1 1-0
34 29 Maryland Big Ten 13-2 1-0 3-0 8-2 1-0
38 34 Michigan St. Big Ten 10-5 1-1 2-3 7-1 0-0
46 48 Northwestern Big Ten 12-3 1-2 2-1 9-0 0-0
48 46 Nebraska Big Ten 8-6 2-2 1-2 4-2 1-0
49 56 Wisconsin Big Ten 13-2 2-1 2-1 9-0 0-0
51 50 Purdue Big Ten 12-3 0-1 4-0 8-2 0-0

it may be a year-long slog.  this team need moderate improvement from irvin and walton to finish near the top of the BIG.  irvin has had a couple off games but has been pretty solid.  walton has had a serious regression.  his overall numbers are similar to last year but we are only now heading into BIG season.

the drop-off of maar too is killer.

if you would have told me that wagner and wilson would play this well, i would have guessed top 4 finish in the BIG.  with each passing game, my optimism dwindles.
