Crystal Balls not looking good regarding Mr. Solomon
January 1st, 2017 at 3:59 PM ^
well that's a bummer

James Hudson will have to become a true DT or even NT

word is he's even better on that side of the ball
January 1st, 2017 at 4:11 PM ^
somebody has to play DT.
January 1st, 2017 at 4:23 PM ^
Maybe we can get really lucky and have an All-American nose tackle walk on to the team again?
January 1st, 2017 at 4:55 PM ^
Let's just make Jordan Glasgow gain 100 lbs.
January 1st, 2017 at 8:03 PM ^
100 lbs at least - isn't he the guy that got run over by the KR on that fateful return after we took the lead?
January 1st, 2017 at 8:48 PM ^
He launched hinmself at the guy for a kill shot from the side but bounced off and didn't wrap. Missed tackle sure, which if he did tackle him we win the game, but not the same as getting run over.
January 1st, 2017 at 4:04 PM ^
He would join Marquise Hill, Dashawn Hand and probably more than a few other DL in the south that Michigan has tried to pull north without success over the last decade or more. It's a longshot in the best of circumstances.

he was following Hand and entering Bana's excellent engineering school...
January 1st, 2017 at 6:07 PM ^
I heard that he was following Hand and entering Bama's excellent school of churning out human wrecking balls masquerading as defensive linemen.

seems like a class of 31 or 32 isn't going to happen - we won't just take warm bodies
so 2018 class will likely be normal sized, which may not be horrible, balancing out the classes
the 29 in the 2016 class is down to 26 with Hawkings moving to 2017, Mitchell leaving and Johnson never making it here
getting 26-27 each season may be best in the long run
January 1st, 2017 at 4:07 PM ^
Thought it was a long shot anyway based on posts over the last couple weeks here.
January 1st, 2017 at 4:10 PM ^
Southern top 100 prospect. I had an inclination he was never signing with Michigan.
If we do miss out on the remaining OL/DL prospects, is there a chance we bring in a grad transfer or two (especially on the OL)?
January 1st, 2017 at 4:22 PM ^
I've been meaning to look into this but it's probably still too early. This would be a GREAT year to take 2-3 grad transfers. It'll open up more spots for next year's class AND provide us with much needed experience next season.
Also thought about position switches.
For example, can David Dawson play DT? He's not going to start but neither was Solomon. Could he provide us with a few snaps? No clue. But just thinking about all options.
January 1st, 2017 at 7:17 PM ^
That was a quick answer.
January 1st, 2017 at 4:10 PM ^
obviously this class is a success but a year ago if you had asked me what the positions of need where, I would have said OT and DT. it is disheartening to see us seem to miss out on all the top guys at those positions.
January 1st, 2017 at 4:20 PM ^
Ruiz is going to be a stud. Michigan and Jersey need to produce more elite fat guys! You definitely can't say we didn't try to get the best. Hopefully we can develop line guys like Iowa and that will turn it getting the guys bama gets.
January 1st, 2017 at 4:26 PM ^
We passed on two DTs from Jersey for unknown and mysterious reasons (Bolds/Hansard). Not saying they weren't legit reasons, just saying Jersey has some that we passed on. Also Tyler Friday is an elite 5-star DT in 2018. Oh and lastly Gary is a pretty decent Jersey prospect on the DL. But this year just wasn't great for our positions of need. Lastly lastly, eff Devery Hamilton.

I agree with your post completely. Will be interesting to see what team harbaugh does in the next month.
January 1st, 2017 at 6:12 PM ^
Didn't they pass on Raulerson too? The grad transfer from Texas? They've put themselves in a situation where they are 1-2 injuries from a complete tire fire on offense.

My recollection is Raulerson passed on us.
January 1st, 2017 at 9:39 PM ^
Raulerson chose UCLA's business school because he didn't get into Ross. Or so was the thought at the time...
January 2nd, 2017 at 12:59 PM ^
+1. Informative.
January 2nd, 2017 at 5:40 PM ^
That's right. Forgot B-School was high on his list of priorities and Ross game him a big ol' nope.
January 1st, 2017 at 5:21 PM ^
If we miss on Filiaga, then this class will be a bit of a disappointment. Don't get me wrong, this class has a lot of talent (I think we have more four star recruits that any other team right now). If we don't land an elite OT, DT, or NT, however, it is hard to consider this class a great one. Great classes fill significant holes and needs on a team's roster.
January 1st, 2017 at 6:20 PM ^
Personally I'll be shocked if Filiaga picks Michigan. They've had awful success at trying to pull OL/DL out of the south and Texas.

Must get at least one for the OL since Dawson's departure. Good transfers for DL are rare though...
Dire options at NT.

Didn't he say academics was a huge part of his recruitment?
I'm sorry but Georgia is even better at school (yes it is purposely bad English) than Bama

just know that this is almost always total bullshit, and you will avoid recurring disappointment if you follow recruiting.

It is also bullshit to think that you can't get good educations at other universities.

It's also bullshit to think that you would choose Bama over dozens of other schools like USC, UNC, UM, etc if academics were hugely important to you.

I have a lot of friends who are doctors, dentists and sucessful business people who went to "lousy" second and third tier schools. I think smart people get a lot of individual attention at those schools and don't get weeded out. Michigan is for the best students. Not necessarily the best student atheletes.
January 1st, 2017 at 4:18 PM ^
Balls
January 1st, 2017 at 4:18 PM ^
According to the Bama 247 site Solomon himself said Bama has a huge lead. So doesn't look good at all.

Saban is old. He needs to retire or go fail again in the NFL.

Saban is old.
We would like it if he retired because he is old.
Or he could try his hand in the NFL as he did for about 2 weeks with Miami.
January 1st, 2017 at 4:23 PM ^
I always think it's weird when grown men refer to a 17 or 18 year old as Mr, like "Mr. Solomon"
January 1st, 2017 at 4:36 PM ^
Better than some guys calling 22 year olds kids. Kids are 11 and usually not in college.
January 1st, 2017 at 4:41 PM ^
Saying Mr. is a sign of respect.
January 1st, 2017 at 4:41 PM ^
I've only got a couple years on him, if we would have gone to high school together we would have been on the same football team. So I think it's alright to use "Mr" as opposed to his first name
January 1st, 2017 at 4:45 PM ^
Also I used thought it better to use that than spell his name wrong
January 1st, 2017 at 4:28 PM ^
He got his stuff together to get a PSU offer...maybe we can kick the tires there? Sell Slaton on being a DT (looks like he and Leon-Herbert may be Gators soon)?
Rutger Reitmaier? Put the full court press on again?
Corey Bolds? He's a Paramus kid...Dalyn Wade-Perry has a hyphen.
