Do you root for MSU in the Big Dance? Why?

Submitted by InRichRodWeTrust on

I am so irritated by fellow Michigan fans that root for them. They say it'll help the Big Ten, so it will help Michigan. Bull crap.

From reading messages on here it looks like it's about 50/50 on if you root for MSU.

So do you root for MSU and why?

No chance. Not from Michigan originally so I have no alliance.

I will, however, root for the Big10 to do well. Purdue has me pulling for them right now given they lost Hummel and have replaced him with halftime animal sacrifices.

Has anybody seen one of my questions or answerers that you had a major beef with? In 4 days I have lost 130 points. Someone on here must really dislike me.
I'm thinking its In_Rod_We_Trust. I didn't even know there was a name on here like mine and he want on a rant and said he was going to report me to Brian for copying his name. I don't even mind people copying my name to show their support for RichRod. I guess I just don't get people on here.

Talk about baseless accusations!

I remember yelling at you saying "I didn't mind it when you stole my name, but please at least don't post utter crap". You can go look it up if you want. And this was at least a month ago..you really think I've been sitting here for a month thinking about getting back at you and then suddenly coming up with the master plan to negbang you? If you dont post that often, then I couldn't have neg-banged you to that extent even if I wanted to.

I will pos-bang you here, just cuz you seem to really care about meaningless numbers on a website.

20000012122122280808.

Here is a really big number. Are you happy now? Does this number have any more significance than the one below your name...sheesh.

Just added one more point. Will that make you happy? Criminy! As said above, it doesn't really matter . . . you have plenty enough to post. As long as you're not a total jerk, who cares?

I have to admit, because this bothers you so much: can you describe yourself? How old are you? Somehow, I suspect that the younger the poster, the more mgopoints matter.

To tell the truth, if someone has way high points, they either: have a lot of good comments and content (see: TomVH, Brian, sometimes Magnus, sev others) but typically, prob spend WAAYY too much time here, commenting on way too many threads. Shoot, I feel stupid commenting here, and will therefore cease now.

I must say that years ago, I cheered for the Sparties whenever we didn't play them. I liked the idea of a fellow Michigan school competing around the country. My views have changed drastically though over the past few seasons.

It seems as though the more I hear from Sparties, the more frustrated I get. How funny that they consider themselves our equal and how angry it makes me. We are nationwide, we have the history, we have the academics, we have everything. Ever since MSU has started growing into more of an athletic institution, I have disliked them more and more. I'm constantly hearing nonsense from my ex-classmates and they have now turned into one of my least favorite schools.

OSU will always be public enemy #1 for me, followed by ND, but MSU has found it's way to #3 on my list. I cheer against them in everything now. They deserve some credit for being competitive and giving us great games, but I won't give the fans or Dantonio any because of how classless they've been. I think a lot of Michigan fans feel the same as me.

I root for fellow Big Ten teams, and my considerable rooting powers have had a LOT to do with MSU's success this decade, the Big Ten's success in last season's bowl games, and other successes enjoyed by Big Ten teams.

The problem is, sometimes I forget to root for Big Ten teams and they lose.

I can't figure out why my rooting powers haven't worked for Michigan these last couple years, so I'm gonna have to blame the coaches.

I don't consider it a big deal to root for the Sparties, expecially being a Michigan native and doubly expecially when UM isn't in the Big Dance.

I like Izzo--he's class all the way, graduates about 90% of his players, and represents the state well. State has pretty much carried the basketball banner for the Big Ten lately and last year was a great story seeing them in the final four in Detroit.

I will say this: I never root for Sparty football.

I actually don't have a problem with the university...truthfully I think msu is pretty good in most areas, and outstanding in a few. MY problem though is with the MSU, green-goggle wearing, michigan-obsessed fans. Every time I find myself happy for a school from Michigan doing well, a sparty fan takes a jab at Michigan and I get reminded why it's so hard to root for them. If it wasn't for their fans, MSU would be fine by me

I suppose it would be unreasonable to say there aren't any Michigan fans that spend too much time worrying about MSU...but I think it's fair to say there are more on the other side. Here's a difference I see allllll the time (and not just with msu). When Michigan loses I immediately see 6 texts from sparty fans rubbing it in. When MSU loses I don't immediately think "hey I better call my msu friend and remind him how much his team blows"

But consider we are their NUMBER ONE BY SO FAR rival and Michigan traditionally pounds them (heck, we even lead them in the all-time basketball series!), gets all the press, and of course, the cool uni's that we don't need to change every six weeks.

We have OSU and Notre Dame and bigger fish (usuall) to fry.

But now that the scales of sports justice are tipped in their favor (CCHA notwithstanding)--they are going to revel in it and I can't blame them.

What really has to suck for MSU fans is the older ones can remember pre-1968 days when they were a premier football program and then just dropped off the map.

I think the Big Ten has represented pretty well in the tourney so far, while the Big East has choked, for the most part. There's no longer a need to root for MSU. Nothing else good can come from it. Remember, this also boils down to recruiting, and the better MSU does, the harder it makes it for us to try to get other top prospects if they're considering MSU. So NO, I will not root for MSU. Go UNI!!!

The Big Ten B-ball conference doesn't suffer the same image problem that football does (in no small part due to Spartie's success) so it IS all about recruiting now.
It's the same with OSU in football, I'll root for any Big Ten team in a bowl game, but not OSU.
It's not JUST an irrational "OSU sucks" mentality, it's because we are always a potential recruiting rival with them.

Actually, in basketball the league takes just as much heat in other parts of the country, with the (legitimate) gripe that our style of play is boring. Losing 10 straight Big Ten-ACC challenges before this year took its toll.

I just thought of something, shouldn't Dantonio be under more heat then he is seeing as he hasn't done amazing with their program, and he had around 10 players involved someway in a brawl and other things.

Cant stand to watch them win anything. Having a lot of friends that go to that school has only increased my hatred for them. My stupid ass friends don't know jack shit and somehow think their school is comparable to Michigan. I won't even watch them unless they are playing Michigan. I don't recognize them. If you've noticed, i refuse to say the name. Go Blue!

Maybe, it really depends on what is best for my bracket. Though at this point I'm rooting for northern iowa since I had Kansas and they'll cause the least help to everyone else

TJ

It pisses them off. They hate us so much that when we root for them instead of against them it makes them feel hopeless. As long as we root for them when they're not playing us each one of them will know in the back of their minds that there will never be a true rivalry between us and them. After all they are our little brother.

the only, ONLY time I ever root for sparty is if a MSU victory somehow benefits UofM. Otherwise, hell no. MSU fans are awful, awful people.

I had State and OSU winning at least a game each in my brackets. However, I rooted against them every minute of their games. I try to fill out brackets with my head, but once they're in, I pull for the teams I really want to win. What would happen if I needed MSU or OSU to win in order to win a pool for a large sum of money? That becomes an interesting question, involving variables such as my current credit card balance.

I definitely don't ever "root" for MSU, but I have significantly softened my stance on them over the years. As a teenager and through my 20s, I really hoped they would lose every game, but I just don't feel as passionately about it anymore. I guess I can just let them exist in their own universe and not worry about it. I am never going to wear green or sing the fight song, but I don't mind them having a nice run once in a while.

I have hardened my stance over the years. When I was a UM student back in 2000, when MSU won it all, I was excited for them. However, too much post-graduation contact with Sparty (I really don't know many UM grads in my every day life) has poisoned the waters.
