I'm Batman I have been your same mindset. However, others have tried the same and not been so successful. Still not a fan, but I do get intrigued by his methods (the non sanction worthy ones).

Calipari - cash & fake test scores

Harbaugh - not that

There are guys who are great in college and will never go to the pros because their great success isn't built on coaching acumen, it's built primarily on having more talent than anyone else or a system that only works in college. It's why you'll never see Cal or Urban in the pros.

Cal was in the pros 20 years ago. That Nets experience is why he'll probably never go back. He could be successful there. There are coaches in the NBA who largely manage personalities and motivate, with their assistants taking the lead on scheme. Obviously that's much less common in football (unless you're PJ Fleck).

Oh for sure he could never do what he does at Kentucky in the NBA. But he could do what Lue is doing in Cleveland (no disrespect to either; I think both are good coaches). On the flip side of the competitive spectrum, I bet the Kings would have been a lot better the last few years if he was there. He's not going to go out there and be Pop or SVG but the guy is respected by stars and can keep them motivated and engaged.

I don't recommend it. Save your time. I listened to some and never had any dislike of Calipari before. But after listening to the first half, Calipari just comes off as a pure Narcissist. Half the time he'd start out answering his own questions and then when Harbaugh would answer, Calipari would cut him off and talk over him. Also, Calipari's answers to things, like recruiting questions, were more about competition, where Harbaughs were more about his love of the game and getting to know people. Other than their relentlessness they are completely different.

But yes, Calipari is a narcascit and it is apparent throughout the interview.  Coach is a good sport and near the end you can tell he is happy to be finished.

However, they do have respect for each other despite their similar, but different personalities.  John shares love for the Harbaugh family and talks about a few things in his past that are slightly humbling.

I enjoyed hearing our Coaches stories despite being constantly cut off by John.

Despite Calipari's persona and the stigma of Kentucky BB, he at least seems to respect Coach and think highly of the things he's doing for the university.

best interview of Coach Harbaugh I've ever heard!  Kudos to Coach Calipari for getting Jim on and offering up such an enlightening and fluid interview.  Really made Harbaugh seem relaxed and comfortable.  Great, great stuff.

I dont like Calipari as its obvious he does some shady dealings with recruits but its always good for Harbaugh to get into the news like this.

Coach Cal is basically the football version of Saban in that both programs are basically stepping stones for top prospects to quickly get to the pros. Wouldnt mind if some of that made its way to Ann Arbor

That was a better listen than I thought. I do not like Calipari dating to his exit from UMass (I'm from Massachusetts). He's actually a really good interviewer and his connection with the Harbaughs (and Creens) definitely helped get a more personable Jim out.
