OT: Bob Diaco fired
"I know this may come as a surprise to our fans and supporters given the timing of this decision," athletic director David Benedict said in a statement. "However, it became apparent to me that a change in program direction is necessary at this time."
I think the only surprise (regarding the timing) is that it didn't happen sooner...

Didnt know who the coach was anyway.

He didn't sound too CONFLicted in making that decision...

He tried his best so his CONscience is clear, which is better than Sark at USC who spent his time mostly unCONscious.
December 26th, 2016 at 2:30 PM ^
Did they buyout his CONtract?
December 26th, 2016 at 4:05 PM ^
make a clever joke with this circumstance.
December 26th, 2016 at 11:40 AM ^
It's the FL and CT...

December 26th, 2016 at 12:06 PM ^
LOL, true. I only have passing knowledge that such things exist.
December 26th, 2016 at 11:32 AM ^
...but the 3 obligatories remain.
Obligatory #1: Civil ConFLiCT
Obligatory #2: Greg Schiano to UConn
Obligatory #3:
December 26th, 2016 at 12:40 PM ^
To think we might've lost that game if not for Obligatory #3.

As a Temple alum I enjoy our annual beat down of UConn in AAC football.
Watching Michigan struggle with that team, at that time, was the worst.
December 26th, 2016 at 3:33 PM ^
I almost didn't post it for this very reason...but the play was that special.
December 26th, 2016 at 3:44 PM ^
Gotta love them Desmonds...
December 26th, 2016 at 11:35 AM ^
Joe Moorhead is rumored to be a top candidate to replace Diaco, and considering how late this move was made it'd make sense that they already have someone lined up to take the job. Would be a nice surprise.
December 26th, 2016 at 11:39 AM ^
Sounds like it's him or the Fordham HC.
December 26th, 2016 at 12:04 PM ^
I certainly wouldn't mind having the PSU offense take a big step back next year.
December 26th, 2016 at 3:42 PM ^
They will, dont think the RB will leave to go to NFL?
December 26th, 2016 at 4:10 PM ^
He'll be back.
December 26th, 2016 at 12:37 PM ^
Yeah I don't think you make a move this late into the coaching carousel without having a replacement lined up.

Illinois may have smashed that bit of common knowledge last year.
Edit- misunderstood on my first read. I agree, they probably have a guy lined up
... Like Illinois did.
December 26th, 2016 at 11:36 AM ^
Diaco was Notre Dame's DC before taking the job, so it's less likely they'll want to replace him with another DC. Fingers crossed.
December 26th, 2016 at 11:39 AM ^
I think it's clear that's who they are targeting

I think Todd Orlando would be the better hire tho
December 26th, 2016 at 11:36 AM ^
This really is late in the process. I wonder who they can get. Diaco wasn't great by any means, but it's not like people are lining up for a G5 program with few recruiting advantages in one of the worst parts of the country to recruit talent.
December 26th, 2016 at 11:39 AM ^
Connecticut isn't too far from New Jersey, perhaps they can get some players from there.....
December 26th, 2016 at 11:54 AM ^
Everybody else does so why not
December 26th, 2016 at 3:35 PM ^
Hey, we had two recruits from CT and one from RI this year, at least until Dillon jumped ship.
December 26th, 2016 at 6:41 PM ^
Still do. Black and Mason are from CT, Paye is from RI

We have 3 from Connecticut. Steuber is also. And Dillon was from Massachusetts

Shocked. Especially since he beat UCF two of last three. Shows how intense the rivalry is

For those wondering, apparently his buyout drops $1.6 million as of January 1, so that's why it's this late (it is effective January 2).
December 26th, 2016 at 12:10 PM ^
at least it wasn't the day before Christmas
December 26th, 2016 at 12:45 PM ^
I like to think they waited this late just to screw with ND. They already hired a DC so can't get Diaco back.
December 26th, 2016 at 1:02 PM ^
Forde saying Moorhead is staying put. Levy saying the deal might already be done for him to go. We shall see.
December 26th, 2016 at 1:06 PM ^
Would be a huge mistake to leave that offense for the black hole that is UConn football. Then again, the opportunity to coach in the Civil ConFLiCT might be too much to pass up.

Only so many HC jobs out there that can lead to P5 work. Is it better to be in Matt Rhule's position at Temple, demonstrate you can win and leveage that into a good deal at Baylor or is it better to be an OC?
AAC head coaches also making about $2 million per year, also, so there is a financial incentive.
December 26th, 2016 at 2:04 PM ^
They should hire the refs from the Ohio State game. They really know how to win one no matter what their opponent does.
December 26th, 2016 at 2:05 PM ^
UCONN could be a decent job, theyve been good before. And as far as recruiting we got several guys out of Connecticut (Black, Mason, Stueber...and Hawkins kind of). Plus you're close to Maryland, New Jersey, and Pennsylvania all of which have some solid recruits so it's not a bad job.
Also saw somewhere that Don Brown could be considered since he's got a bunch of New England ties but it doesnt seem like he'd leave after one season.
December 26th, 2016 at 2:25 PM ^
Harbaugh to Connecticut - then UCONN joins the NFL....you heard it here first

Like New Jersey, The Michigan Grinch came into Connecticut and stole 3 top recruits out of that state too.
December 26th, 2016 at 4:17 PM ^
Bob Diaco was a hot name three years ago, and I remember when he took this job some skepticism about this being the right job for him to take. Seems they were right.
December 27th, 2016 at 12:25 AM ^
Chuck Martin, the last branch, better show 2017 progress.

Odd that they would fire the guy this late in the game unless they already have someone signed, sealed and delivered. Either that or some kind of scandal.
