"I know this may come as a surprise to our fans and supporters given the timing of this decision," athletic director David Benedict said in a statement. "However, it became apparent to me that a change in program direction is necessary at this time."

I think the only surprise (regarding the timing) is that it didn't happen sooner...

Joe Moorhead is rumored to be a top candidate to replace Diaco, and considering how late this move was made it'd make sense that they already have someone lined up to take the job. Would be a nice surprise.

This really is late in the process. I wonder who they can get. Diaco wasn't great by any means, but it's not like people are lining up for a G5 program with few recruiting advantages in one of the worst parts of the country to recruit talent.

They should hire the refs from the Ohio State game.  They really know how to win one no matter what their opponent does.

UCONN could be a decent job, theyve been good before. And as far as recruiting we got several guys out of Connecticut (Black, Mason, Stueber...and Hawkins kind of). Plus you're close to Maryland, New Jersey, and Pennsylvania all of which have some solid recruits so it's not a bad job.

Also saw somewhere that Don Brown could be considered since he's got a bunch of New England ties but it doesnt seem like he'd leave after one season.

Bob Diaco was a hot name three years ago, and I remember when he took this job some skepticism about this being the right job for him to take.  Seems they were right.
