Submitted by Wolverine Devotee on

The third member of the class and the third Top-70 overall players is Taylor Bump.

Taylor HAILS from Gulfport, Florida and plays for the Canterbury School in St. Petersburg. Her travel team is the Gold Coast Hurricanes.

She plays 3B in high school ball but SS in travel. Hutch has really been doing an outstanding job signing great middle infielders in the last 5 years.

Bump is ranked #61 nationally in the Flo Softball Top-100.

She's been playing on the Varsity since she was in 8th grade, and has amassed a 4-year batting average of .432 including an insane .557 BA her freshman year. Bump batted .424 last year with 28 RBIs.

Here is the middle infield/3B depth listed by year in 2018 when she arrives-

Amanda Vargas Sr.
Faith Canfield Jr.

Taylor has been a winner for a long time, playing varsity high school ball in Florida as an eighth grader when she won her first of two back-to-back state titles. She became a national recruit her freshman year when the 5-foot-10 infielder was named as a MaxPreps Freshman All-American after hitting .557 with an on-base percentage of .664. In 2016, she batted .424 with a career-high 12 doubles. With the stick, Taylor has gap power and can bat clean-up or in the five-hole to drive home a lot of runs. A standout at first base, she has the athletic tools to play multiple positions because she has quick hands and feet. Long recognized as an elite recruit, Taylor verbaled to Michigan the summer before her freshman year after impressing Wolverine coaches at their camps.

Hutch from MGoBlue.com-

"Taylor is from another highly-competitive travel ball program who played for a national title this summer," said Hutchins. "She's a versatile, athletic and well-rounded player. The sky is the limit for her. She's just a fantastic athlete, who we think can come in and really make a difference in this program."

Softball is one of my favorite UM sports.

Question for WD or anyone.  How much playing time do freshman get in softball?  In football its rare but it definitely happens.  Softball?

It depends a lot on the player and the depth of the team at the position.  I think there is a preference not to have to force a freshman in starting role.  Last year Michigan had a deep team so there wasn't much room for a freshman to crack the lineup.  In 2016 Oklahoma won the WCWS with four freshmen in the staring line up.  I think one of them had the last name of Romero.
