Hello: Meghan Beaubien (sb)

Submitted by Wolverine Devotee on

MGoSoftball usually does these when LOIs are signed, but that was almost a month ago so I figure I'd continue this tradition in case something came up.

We'll start with the first of two Top-10 nationally ranked players in this recruiting class.

Hutch signed yet another blue chip pitcher recruit.

LHP Meghan Beaubien HAILS from Newport, Michigan and plays for St. Mary's Catholic Central in Monroe. Her travel team is the Beverly Bandits, a pipeline for Michigan recruiting in recent years where Hutch always has the pick of the litter.

You may remember some of the threads from last year during her teams run to their second straight State Championship that Beaubien led them to.

Meghan pitched TWO BACK TO BACK PERFECT GAMES on the biggest stage. The State Semifinals and Championship game. She finished the 2016 season with a 23-1 record.

Over the past summer she also won the PGF U-16 Tournament, a prestigious summer league tournament.

In these last two seasons where she led SMCC to a State title, she has amassed the following staggering statistics

  • 58-4 record
  • 851 strikeouts in 384 IP
  • 0.35 ERA

She is the #6 ranked player nationally on FloSoftball's Hot 100 rankings, and is the #3 ranked pitcher in the country. She can also play 1B.

This is the pitcher who will replace Megan Betsa after she graduates following the upcoming 2017 season. The pitching depth chart will look like this in 2018-

Player Year
Tera Blanco Sr.
Leah Crockett Jr.
Meghan Beaubien Fr.
Sara Schaefer Fr.

You could make a case that no one in the 2017 class had a better year than Meghan, who won a PGF 16U National Championship with the Bandits following a record-setting high school season. She led her St. Mary Catholic Central (Michigan) team to a second straight Div. 3 title and did so by pitching two perfect games, including the final. Meghan repeated as 1st Team FloSoftball All-American and won Gatorade State Player of the Year honors as well after going 25-1 with 394 Ks in 187 innings and allowing just 10 earned runs all spring. She is now on the Cray Allen Bandits team and, though taking some time off after PGF Nationals, looks poised to have a huge senior year. Meghan is a lefty hurler who has a change-up that, even when batters know it's coming, they're still helpless to hit. She also throws a rise, screw, and drop and knows how to pitch, mastering the mental side of the game as well. And, not least of all, she can hit 64 mph on the gun and isn't afraid to throw any of her pitches no matter where she is in the count and in the game.

Hutch on Beaubien from MGoBlue.com-

"Meghan is an elite pitcher," said Hutchins. "She won the prestigious PGF 16-Under tournament this summer. She's really in a class of her own. She's a lefty, who we expect to have a great impact on our program. She's had a great career thus far. We've been waiting for her for a while now, so we're excited to finally get her here. We're expecting a lot of great things from Meghan Beaubien."

I don't think there is a program at the entire University that goes to such lengths to play real competition.  UCLA, Florida, Florida St., USF, Arizona St., and Texas A&M are all on the schedule next year all away from home.  They spend the first month of the season on the road at various tournaments playing the best teams out there.

My daughter's softball team played in the semi's last summer vs Grandville Calvin Christian and lost on an unlucky bounce.  The following game was MSMCC vs Gladstone.  She pitched well.  Good player.

I'm just so sick of waiting to see her in the circle for the Maize & Blue.  Seems like she's been committed forever, and it's STILL another year before we get to see her pitch for Michigan.  Of course, I'm sure it will be worth the wait in the end.

It's posts like this that demonstrate why WD is a credit to the term "Michigan Man."  And WTFIU with some...specimen downvoting the softball team getting a blue chip recruit?!

And while we're at it, a big shout out to the women's basketball team at 10-3. B1G look out!

WD did a fantastic job in the previous seasons, keeping us up to date on all things related to this team.

For your information, UM softball is one of the best teams in the country and has gone deep into the playoffs for several years.

Maybe we should preface all threads UM Softball: , so you don't have to waste your time.

Or there should be sub-threads for other sports.  I mean, should someone post a "Hello" post to every kid in every sport at UM?  Or maybe the whole MGoBoard should be set up like Reddit?

GREAT JOB WD!!!

I HAIL from Monroe and this girl has been destroying the region for years.  This is a great signing Hutch and the women's team.

Go Blue!

Why does a section of the blog hate WD? Was there a key event that happened, or is it a trend in some type of posts? I feel like I'm missing something from not being on here enough.
