OT(ish): "Kill" & Rutgers' "Offense" - Match Made In Karma Heaven

Jerry Kill to be Rutgers' OC?

First obvious reaction:  Given his health history, which you'd think will only be a recurring issue, they must figure a good OC is better for half the games than what they've been doing for a full season.

Second obvious reaction:  Is this a change in style?  Didn't Ash want to run an Ohio State / Tom Herman-type offense?  (As if you could discern exactly what they were trying to do last year anyway).  I don't think of Kill as THAT style.

There probably isn't a better guy in college sports than Jerry Kill. I wish him nothing but the best and hope his health is such he can do job without incident.

Good for him. Good luck to you Jerry!

It's clear he's a great coach, players love him, other coaches love him... Universal adoration.

He's been dealt a clearly shitty hand with the health issues he's been battling. It became abundantly clear as his time at Minnesota went on that the unpredictability of his condition made coaching a tough gig to justify.

Maybe being a coordinator is a better fit, as much as he said stress was not a factor. But it seems to me, as nice a guy as he is and as much as we want to see him succeed... It's rolling the dice to take a chance on Jerry Kill at this point. MIght be that a consulting/support staff gig is a better fit.

Maybe, but even if he claims it's not stress-related, that it wasn't about being on the sidelines versus being in the booth, that he was doing everything he could to improve the situation... It never got better. He was in the booth, and he still had problems meeting the demands of the job.

So, sure, maybe being a coordinator is better. I tend to believe it probably won't be, again, as much as we want the guy to succeed.

And this is particularly interesting given the fact that he's outright said that he cannot be a head coach again, didn't see himself even coaching again, and that administration was probably his path going forward:

We've all been impressed with Coach Kill and the "Minnesota nice" fans. Here's the truth. Two seasons in a row the Gophers knocked our starting QB out of the game with a targeting head shot.
And while I'm being salty, I don't get all the love for Jameis Wiston's character and leadership. Dude was a serial butt-head in college. Maybe he's grown up since turning pro. I'd like to think that, but I've seen no evidence.

I'm still trying to figure out if your "half the games" comment is a douchey wisecrack or not. I hope not. I do hope he can stay healthy and that he does well. I think he could make their program better by a few notches almost immediately.

I heard a radio interview with him where he came off a bit salty toward Minn.  I think his implication was that he expected to move over to an administrative position within the athletic dept but was instead show the door after he stepped down.

He landed at KSU and sounded very happy in his position.  I wonder what changed?

I don't care who you are, i see no way that being associated with Rutgers football could be good for your health. Unless your doctor recommends hearty amounts of pain and humiliation for some rare condition.

I wish him good luck, i truly do.

I like Jerry Kill but I don't really get the hire.  His defenses were his anchor and I don't remember his offenses being anything to write home about.  Add that to the fact that he hasn't been an OC in over 2 decades...

But I suppose Rutgers really has nowhere to go but up.
