Wolverines vs Gators 2017

Submitted by Bo4President on

First, Happy Holidays to my fellow Wolverines.  I am posting this way ahead of schedule I know but I am already plotting out my games I will be attending in 2017.

I am planning on flying down for the Michigan vs Florida game at Jerry's World. Here are my questions:

1. Any recommendations on hotels in the Dallas area?

2. Any recommendations on nightlife or must do while in Dallas?  Any Michigan fanbase or sports bars that you recommend?

I am going on this trip with some ole college buddies so should be a fun trip.  I have never been to Dallas so looking to plan ahead and maximize the experience.

Anyone have this trip already booked?  Thanks again!

Went to the game v Alabama. Had a great time. Don't worry you will figure it out. We pretty much stayed around the area near the stadium. Many hotel options. We plan on going back this year. One thing I will do is buy a parking pass for the stadium lot and have my own tailgate.

Doesn't seem like much to do around the stadium but there's some great beer bars in Dallas and Fort Worth. Couple that I enjoy are the Meddlesome Moth (Gastropub with a lot of taps) in the Design District and Lakewood Growler (a bit aways from downtown but not too far). Lakewood keeps its tap list up to date on the website so you can check to see if there is anything interesting before you go. There's also the Craft Beer Cellar that has some taps and they will sell you a bottle of anything in the store and let you drink it for a $2 corkage fee. I'm sure there are tons of others as well.

Arlington. Great Hotel. Close to Airport. Straight shot to the stadium. A bit of a drive to downtown Dallas but not bad. Nice happy hour! Great hotel bar. We stayed there for the Alabama debacle, still had a great time. Jerryworld is incredible. Get there early to enjoy it....drinks inside the stadium are BIG, but not expensive. Fun to be had.

Just a heads up, if you stay in Dallas or Ft Worth you're looking at $100 can ride to the stadium and good f'n luck getting a cab back. I was there for the Bama game and have never seen such a shit show in all my life.

We gave up on the tax line after about an hour and started walking in the direction the cabs were coming and flagged one down. Total dick move but the newspaper said that people were waiting in that line till after 4am and we had an early flight in the morning. It was a total joke. They have the entire road between the two stadiums where they could line up hundreds of cabs in anticipation of the stadium letting out as well as get a good flow that the traffic going. Overall it was one of the worst travel/stadium experiences I've ever had. I left wholly unimpressed with the event. I think they do a terrible job with big events there, can't imagine a super bowl. I'm sure it's fine for Sunday's when it's all season ticket holders who know their way around but not only is the place incredibly poorly designed for crowds but the staff was the most clueless and helpless group of people I've ever come across.

Uber didn't exist back then. Or at least it wasn't in Dallas yet. Might be a better option now. We stayed in Grapevine not far from the airport. It was actually the hotel that was part of the alumni trip package. We didn't buy the package but it included transportation, turns out that would've been smart.

I'm pretty sure the hotel had a shuttle/bus service as well but you had to be on it going there to take it back and that was the problem. We had a group of friends coming from all over and the shuttle was going like 2 hrs before kickoff and we wanted to spend more time by the stadium than that so we passed.

Used to live in Dallas.  Definitely yelp for barbeque.  Nice people.  Pretty flat, hot and ugly otherwise.
