Wolverines vs Gators 2017
First, Happy Holidays to my fellow Wolverines. I am posting this way ahead of schedule I know but I am already plotting out my games I will be attending in 2017.
I am planning on flying down for the Michigan vs Florida game at Jerry's World. Here are my questions:
1. Any recommendations on hotels in the Dallas area?
2. Any recommendations on nightlife or must do while in Dallas? Any Michigan fanbase or sports bars that you recommend?
I am going on this trip with some ole college buddies so should be a fun trip. I have never been to Dallas so looking to plan ahead and maximize the experience.
Anyone have this trip already booked? Thanks again!

Might want to check back in 8 months or so? Doubt anyone is really ready to be scoping out bars and hotel rooms and such when the 2016 season isn't even over yet...

Why are you always such a dick?
December 18th, 2016 at 7:47 PM ^
Honestly, sorry if it was dickish, but it seemed a bit early for this kind of thread when the game is so far away.
I was wrong, I'll take my negs, whatever.

Is this where I bitch about Michigan playing Florida in...
TEXAS?!?!?!!! WTF??!!!

Let's get someone on a FOIA for the contract and get that 2012-3 throwback discussion rolling!

some guys are just blessed with talent.
December 19th, 2016 at 10:31 AM ^
Post doesnt seem dickish to me. You're right its 8 months away they have plenty of time. Also nothing wrong with getting a head start. Once that game gets closer im sure prices will get jacked up and hotels sold out.

Went to the game v Alabama. Had a great time. Don't worry you will figure it out. We pretty much stayed around the area near the stadium. Many hotel options. We plan on going back this year. One thing I will do is buy a parking pass for the stadium lot and have my own tailgate.

On a similar note, does anyone know of any great bars that will exist in 8 months to watch the game at in Kathmandu that are Michigan friendly?
December 18th, 2016 at 6:32 PM ^
Only thing about that is that if it Kamar-Taj....well, becoming Doctor Strange would be awesome, so no complaints really. The only problem is that you would have to miss a substantial portion of the season to get the requisite training, or at least I guess that would be the case.
December 18th, 2016 at 8:12 PM ^
If you can use the eye of Agamotto to dupe Dormammu I am sure you can use it to go back and watch the entire Michigan football season. Similar priority levels.

There's going to be one by the mountain. Hope this helps!

eat the biscuits and the donuts until you are very full.
food porn:
that's right, a chicken sandwich and a donut bun.

I take back my previous post. Let's talk about this stuff. Or, really, about this post. Because I want one. Is that hot sauce in the cup?

Sweet and sour or BBQ?

I'd dip a donut in BBQ.

Cherry jelly doughnut filling?

Can't put that on chicken, though.

Doesn't seem like much to do around the stadium but there's some great beer bars in Dallas and Fort Worth. Couple that I enjoy are the Meddlesome Moth (Gastropub with a lot of taps) in the Design District and Lakewood Growler (a bit aways from downtown but not too far). Lakewood keeps its tap list up to date on the website so you can check to see if there is anything interesting before you go. There's also the Craft Beer Cellar that has some taps and they will sell you a bottle of anything in the store and let you drink it for a $2 corkage fee. I'm sure there are tons of others as well.
December 18th, 2016 at 6:27 PM ^
The emergence of the large liquor store that also has a taproom and will sell you a beer to drink while you shop is one of the best innovations of the past two to three years or so.
December 18th, 2016 at 6:28 PM ^
I'll second meddlesome moth. Lockhart is a favorite of mine for BBQ. Bob's Steak and Chop House is one I like a lot too.

Haven't made it to Lockhart yet but I'll check it out. The Pecan Lodge in Deep Ellum is pretty solid for BBQ. And it's wakable to quite a few bars and two breweries (Deep Ellum brewery is solid). You can take the DART (Dallas train system) to Deep Ellum as well.

has some nice brochures in the lobby - that should help
December 18th, 2016 at 6:34 PM ^
And they leave the light on for 'ya, you know, so you can read 'em right there.

Arlington. Great Hotel. Close to Airport. Straight shot to the stadium. A bit of a drive to downtown Dallas but not bad. Nice happy hour! Great hotel bar. We stayed there for the Alabama debacle, still had a great time. Jerryworld is incredible. Get there early to enjoy it....drinks inside the stadium are BIG, but not expensive. Fun to be had.
December 18th, 2016 at 6:38 PM ^
Norma's for breakfast. Cokers is a great hole in the wall bbq joint. Coca Cola antiques all over the place and some of the best okra I've had.
December 18th, 2016 at 6:43 PM ^
Just a heads up, if you stay in Dallas or Ft Worth you're looking at $100 can ride to the stadium and good f'n luck getting a cab back. I was there for the Bama game and have never seen such a shit show in all my life.

Same here we ended up walking back after the game. Could not find a cab that would take us the short distance back to the hotel.

We gave up on the tax line after about an hour and started walking in the direction the cabs were coming and flagged one down. Total dick move but the newspaper said that people were waiting in that line till after 4am and we had an early flight in the morning. It was a total joke. They have the entire road between the two stadiums where they could line up hundreds of cabs in anticipation of the stadium letting out as well as get a good flow that the traffic going. Overall it was one of the worst travel/stadium experiences I've ever had. I left wholly unimpressed with the event. I think they do a terrible job with big events there, can't imagine a super bowl. I'm sure it's fine for Sunday's when it's all season ticket holders who know their way around but not only is the place incredibly poorly designed for crowds but the staff was the most clueless and helpless group of people I've ever come across.

Georgia dome after ncaa championship, now that was a total cluster. No way I'd ever go for a major sporting event ever again
December 18th, 2016 at 6:48 PM ^
Considering the stadium is supposedly surrounded by acres of parking lots, aside from having to find a DD, seems the best option is renting a car if that's the case.
December 18th, 2016 at 7:24 PM ^
All the parking was taken up. We had friends who rented a car and ended up paying to park in a church lot a few blocks away. Pretty doable if you don't get parking with your tix.

Uber?

Uber didn't exist back then. Or at least it wasn't in Dallas yet. Might be a better option now. We stayed in Grapevine not far from the airport. It was actually the hotel that was part of the alumni trip package. We didn't buy the package but it included transportation, turns out that would've been smart.

I'm pretty sure the hotel had a shuttle/bus service as well but you had to be on it going there to take it back and that was the problem. We had a group of friends coming from all over and the shuttle was going like 2 hrs before kickoff and we wanted to spend more time by the stadium than that so we passed.

Used to live in Dallas. Definitely yelp for barbeque. Nice people. Pretty flat, hot and ugly otherwise.
