Scout Media files for bankruptcy
Just came across this online, looks like Scout Media filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy on Friday and is planning on selling what remains of the business. Since September, they've contacted 154 potential buyers, 20 of which were interested, but none of them put forward a bid. According to the article:
In papers filed in bankruptcy court, lawyers for the company have proposed a court-supervised process in which bids for Scout Media’s assets would be due Jan. 17. An auction would be held in Wilmington, Del., Jan. 19, with a hearing to approve the winner scheduled for the following week.
After the auction, the company is planning on winding down.

What does the future hold for Sam? He has some extensive travel plans coming up as well.

Wait, I thought Fox had bought them already? Does this have anything to do with Roger Ailes inappropriately touching anyone? WAIT, is this why Tom BEAVER left Scout???!!!??? The pieces are coming together...

Ailes inappropriately touched Beaver.

Yes, that was the joke...

but making up for it with dolphins.
December 11th, 2016 at 2:09 PM ^
Wow, how do I up vote this one like 1000x.
But, no I think Beaver left because he wanted the money and knew nothing about UM.

it took a long long time, but the Scout higher-ups finally realized he was a no talent ass-clown.
December 11th, 2016 at 12:38 PM ^
I didn't realize it until I read the article, but Fox sold off Scout in 2013.

Less attention to/scrutiny of high school kids the better. All these recruiting websites need to go under, and then we can learn about these kids when they make their first play on the field.
December 11th, 2016 at 12:33 PM ^
Good luck with that. Ain't gonna happen. There is a huge market for this - precisely because people like us exist - and where there is a market, someone will fill it...
December 11th, 2016 at 12:56 PM ^
Huge non-profitable market from the sounds of it, eh?

Great point. A company in a profitable category has never failed.
December 11th, 2016 at 2:12 PM ^
Maybe it's only non-profitable because there are four major recruiting sites. There's really no need for that much coverage.
December 11th, 2016 at 3:11 PM ^
Eh...I don't see like that that.
I see it like the same reason there aren't 4 major athletic shoe/apparel companies. The same reason there are 4 major cell phone carriers.
You could go on and on.
IMO this just speaks to the success of 247, the influence of Twitter and local sites like MGoBlog, etc.
There's a market, the others will just gobble up this share and keep growning/going.
December 11th, 2016 at 12:36 PM ^
But how else are we supposed to get our crootin' fix?
December 11th, 2016 at 12:49 PM ^
Twitter goes under too? Last I checked, no one has to grant an interview with a recruiting website. No high school athlete has to talk to the newspapers, and they certainly don't have to post about every visit/offer/text from a college coach on twitter. If a recruiting website gathers up all this info in one spot, why are they the bad guy?
December 11th, 2016 at 12:58 PM ^
Let's blame the kids, instead of the people who take interest in them simply to make a dollar.
December 11th, 2016 at 12:59 PM ^
People don't take interest in them to make a dollar. People are interested in recruiting, and then there are people/companies that pop up to provide information to satiate that interest. And then if they are lucky, they make money off of it.
And its not the kid's fault that people are interested in them. Recruiting is the life blood of CFB, and as long as there is interest in CFB, there are going to be recruiting sites.
December 11th, 2016 at 1:05 PM ^
People are not that interested in recruiting. These sites make people interested in recruiting.
December 11th, 2016 at 2:04 PM ^
I was unaware that the internet had the power to literally force people to subscribe to websites and click on articles that they otherwise had no interest in.
December 11th, 2016 at 2:17 PM ^
The things you're saying, they don't make sense.
December 11th, 2016 at 2:48 PM ^
Yep, if it weren't for that darn internet, nobody would be interested in porn.
December 11th, 2016 at 3:11 PM ^
You used to need talent to make porn. You had to have a story, know how to use lighting, scout locations, ladies, but the internet ruined all that. Now any Tom, Dick, or Hairy can get a handheld and a failed actress and pound away on a gummy couch in a decrepit apartment. The mystique is gone. Just like in college football recruiting.
December 11th, 2016 at 4:08 PM ^
Hairy
December 11th, 2016 at 6:05 PM ^
In other words, you know as little about porn as you do recruiting...
December 11th, 2016 at 6:21 PM ^
I was a fluffer from 72-74. I know a thing or two about two things in a thingy.
December 11th, 2016 at 3:07 PM ^
Wait, what? Wouldn't it be the other way around?
That's like me saying people are not interested in sex. Porn makes people interested in sex.
December 11th, 2016 at 3:12 PM ^
That second part depends on how long you've been married.
December 11th, 2016 at 1:03 PM ^
And you totally missed my point. If there was no twitter, no one spoke to their writers and no one went to their camps, what would their website consist of?
December 11th, 2016 at 2:19 PM ^
And these kids need to stop listening to all that bebop music. It's the devil's work.

Scout used to be my go to recruiting site until they changed their layout. Couln't leave a good thing alone.
December 11th, 2016 at 12:32 PM ^
I used to love Scout and was a long time member...but I hated Tom Beaver...Access to Sam wasn't worth reading his drivel. Have yet to try 247, but it is clear Steve is a professional and I may give it a try still.
December 11th, 2016 at 12:53 PM ^
247 is the first site I subscribed to and I really appreciate Steve's professionalism in an industry that seems to be largely comprised of unprofessional man-children. Actual writers for these sites who pester kids incessantly for quotes, trash them when they choose other teams, and insult their team's rivals like a teenager on a message board.
Steve, while he got into the business by doing interviews with kids, now tries to avoid that by speaking with HS coaches and sources within the Michigan program. To a recent poster on the board who wanted mid-visit up dates like another team site provided, Steve told him to find another board. It is not his style to bother the kids mid visit and I respect him for that. He also tries to not publish what kids don't want out there, and is a bit more cryptic as a result. However, he also doesn't blow smoke up readers asses or make clickbaity headlines to get people to subscribe.
December 11th, 2016 at 1:18 PM ^
Sam's "drivel"? - I think very highly of Sam and listen to WTKA each morning. I don't read his content on Scout but I think he is one of the best as far as covering recruiting and Michigan football.
December 11th, 2016 at 1:39 PM ^
not what he said. he said it wasn't worth having to listen to Tom's drivel in order to have access to Sam. Make sense?
December 11th, 2016 at 4:09 PM ^
Sam is a dreidel?
December 11th, 2016 at 4:51 PM ^
He wrote that very poorly.
December 11th, 2016 at 2:15 PM ^
I don't know how people tolerated him for so long.
December 11th, 2016 at 12:20 PM ^
The buyer could theoretically operate the website but yeah doesn't look good. I'm a bankruptcy lawyer (extremely new and basically don't know shit but I can pretend) and this is the rare time I am actually relevant on the internet so this has been my one-sentence contribution.
