Jabrill Peppers is Very Classy

Submitted by EastCoast Esq. on

Statements like this are why Jabrill will always be one of my favorites. The kid works so hard, has such a great attitude, and is very humble. It has been a pleasure to watch him.

Peppers from today: ""Quite frankly, I don't think I should (win the Heisman). There are a lot of other guys here who are more qualified."

Also, when he made that quote, he was eating a ham sandwich liberally covered in Grey Poupon. And he was wearing an ascot. A MONOGRAMMED ascot...

Sometimes i wonder if the main purpose of the message board is to communicate all relevant tweets to those who refuse to look at twitter....photo gets tweeted of Dantonio/harbaugh >>> thread shows up immediately after...Nick B tweets a few quotes from Jabrill >>> thread shows up immediately after.

Im not criticizing the threads...just wondering if this will look silly at some point in the future...like if someone said they read something in the paper this morning and posted it as if there was any chance everyone hadnt seen it by then.

I see MGoBlog as an aggregation of all Michigan-related news and we're in an age of 24/7 media, which inclues Twitter.

Therefore, I don't see a reason why it would look silly. If an event happens that is interesting to Michigan fans, who cares if it's found on ESPN, CNN, MLive, or Twitter?

Maybe silly is the wrong word to use. It would be pointless for me to say that i read in the detroit news today that some Michigan coach said anything because that info would have already been known be virtually everyone. I guess that is how I think these threads will become. I think the poster below said it best that Twitter is poor for discussion so the board has relevance for discussion topics....but for certain threads that are based on nothing but a tweet then they arent that great for discussion anyways.

more so than that, it is a place where a lot of funny people congregate to make each other laugh. I would read this Board even if I didn't like Michigan, and I know a few such people. This is a very unique sports blog. I have not seen another quite like it.

In this day and age of self-promotion, touchdown dances, and premeditated celebrations after first downs despite what the scoreboard says, this is a refreshing take by a fine young man.

What else is he supposed to say? He doesn't want to seem cocky. Jabrill, along with us, knows he would win.

Man I hope somehow he wins tomorrow. I'm sure he won't, but fuck that would be awesome.

If he had a Woodson-seque game against OSU he may very well have won it, with how weak this year's Heisman class is.

He should, but won't. All the idiotic Heisman voters (sans Desmond and Charles because you know they voted for Jabrill) look at are stats. It is so stupid. The award should go to the best all-around player and is supposed to, but it is pretty much reserved for the QB or RB with the best stats. It is the dumbest and most overrated award in college football.

I'm a big fan of what jabrill does on the field. The issue I have with this isn't with Jabrill, as much as it is with media and sports today. Too often there's an expectation to feign humility. It's like if you know you're the best and voice it, you get punished. The most refreshing thing I've seen since Thanksgiving was when Harbaugh said something to the effect of we made our case on the field. It wasn't self promotion. It wasn't feigning humility. It was calling a spade a spade and, for some, it created the question "best four"? or "most deserving four"?

he mentioned about the possiblity of coming back

gnaws at his competitive spirit and guides

him to come back.  It would be awesome of

him to say, "I came here for a BIG 10 Championship

Ring and a National Championship and I don't ever

want to always wonder "what would have

happened if I had stayed for another year...."

Plus, if he's not projected to be the #1 pick in

the draft he still has to hone his craft.  Right?  :)

i don't think anybody is sure what postion he will play in the pros- special teams certainly, but he still need to work on pass coverage to make it at LB, SS, or Nickel. He really could benefit from an extra year in college that might  prolong his career and move up a few spots in the draft, but is it really worth the risk of injury?

He is in touch with the truth. Dont get me wrong, I think Peppers is a great player, but he isnt even the best on the team. Jordan Lewis is far superior at his position than Peppers is at his, whatever that is.. Besides its a Jackson lock.

Peppers is a lot of things, but Classy ? Give it a rest. This is a guy who punch a kid on the field at OSU who did nothing but taunt him, the same taunting Peppers was doing to the fans thru the whole game. Peppers is a great player, one of our best, but he is no " class act" . That's a damn fact.

Unfortunately I have to agree. Before the OSU game he wiped his feet and spit on the block o in the middle of the field. The last thing I would call him is a class act, but I wouldn't trade him for anyone else in the country. He's not a classy guy and his attitude brought a swagger to our team that has been missing for a decade.

Who was the first guy to smile and hug Lamar like he was his own teammate after the Heisman winner was announced? Who was the one to take responsibility for the OSU loss? And knowing the circumstance of being deprived of a father, a brother, security, and income that Jabrill grew up within, being as well spoken and respectful as he is only as stunning as is his humility. When Jabrill says that growing up he distracted himself from his anxiety by playing sports and developing a work ethic, it is proof of his having to mature at an early age. Having a swagger isn't necessary having an ego or not being of high class, it's being competitive due to a high level of preparation and passion, such that many teammates develop from each other (just ask Michael Jordan, Muhammad Ali, or Steph Curry). Idk about the whole spitting on the field thing, but getting charged and mauled by a rival fan that's interrupting an encounter with one of the other team's coaches, let alone on the back of a devastating loss, is plenty of a reason to shove, not "punch", the guy out of his way. Jabrill has been nothing but supportive of his teammates and of his coaches, respectful and animated during interviews, and free of excuses since being in the national spotlight. Not to kiss Jabrill's ass or say that he's a perfect human being without even knowing him, but I honestly don't know how you figure this guy is anything but classy and deserving of high credibility, let alone to mitigate his attitude to nothing but a "swagger".

You refer to my comment about Jabril having a swagger as a bad thing. I was actually saying the opposite. As far as being a class act, I should say that I'm only referring to the football side of him. He's a trash talking, foot wiping, block o spitting, crowd taunting, fan shoving player. You wouldn't see him out there and say, that's a guy who handles himself with class...and I like it. My guess is if he played for osu, msu, or notre dame, your description of him would be much different.
