Great pick-up, he's 4* on Rivals(#17 OT), 4* on Scout(#25 OT), ESPN has him at #14 OT(Grade 80). This guy has great size at 6'6, and potential seems very high from what I've read. While losing Barnes was a blow because we're pretty suspect at LB, this definitely improves the recruiting class.

Lewan is the same size that Joe Thomas(former Badger, now Cleveland Brown)was coming out of HS. If he is like either Thomas or Jake Long, we will be in good shape.

A winning day for the program on balance. Lewan had a lot of buzz of late, and is the mobile offensive lineman that we needed to add.
Obviously we need to step up the linebacker recruiting now though. At least one of the safety recruits will end up there as always happens (probably Bell), but we need some more guys there. Come on, snake oil...

some conferences and maybe even the ncaa have limits on how many scholarships a school can use in a given year. It can get tricky when you factor in early enrollees (can count against the previous years class), guys who leave early (go to the pros, transfer, don't come back for a 5th year when they have eligibility remaining) and gray shirts (I believe don't count till the next years class but I don't think they are on scholarship during the year they are gray shirtting).

Maybe with Jordan Barnes leaving Jelani Jenkins might feel a little better with committing here even though we are pretty short on LB's. Guess I'm just trying to find the silver lining.
Great OL commit though. Jake Long was a big 4* prospect and I see a lot of the same. Only thing is Jake is from Lapeer in MI and used to a cold climate where as Taylor coming from AZ may cause an issue in adjusting to the later Oct. and Nov. games.

Great commit. RR is absolutely getting it done with the recruits in spite of the shit record this year. I love the fact that the top talent on the commit list are at areas of need....qb, O-line, pass rush DEs, DBs. They are all 4 star talent and will fit in great with the fast little buggers currently on the team and being recruited for next year. IMO, no matter what system you run, success begins with the lines. We can have all the speed and athleticism in the world on the outside and in the backfield, but without a hole, they ain't going anywhere. Now we need to seal the deal with Big Will Campbell and it will really be a successful recruiting class.
Losing a 3 star LB sucks and especially since we are so thin at that position. I don't understand why we have been having such a difficult time recruiting LBs the over the past few years. Hopefully a late unexpected four star realizing he can get early playing time will fall into our lap. Looking forward to 2010 and beyond, LB seems to be the one position of concern.
As for McGuffie, very sad to lose an exciting highlight reel guy...especially one as humble and likeable as him. It's like we never really got to know him, as a person or player...but I definitely wish him the best. And now in retrospect stealing that Shaw commitment from Penn State last year becomes that much bigger.

How do we know he won't play? He was offered by a slew of top teams (Texas, Oklahoma). Rodriguez and his staff know a hell of a lot more about football than I do (and, I'd assume, you as well). If this kid got an early offer (he was offered before the season started, and before kids like Cameron Gordon at the same position), then people who know football thinks he has value. Also, losing Peace would, in no way, shape, or form, effect the possibility of getting a LB. That's a false choice you've established. We can take 6 more kids without losing one.
He has other offers from schools that don't have a couple of kids named Miller and Jackson on the way.
It is widely believed that Peace's destination will be CB - a position of need.

If x=y, and y=z, then x=z... You cant fault RR for not bringing a kid in that he didn't recruit, especially since we had a surplus of LB's in last year's class when RR was introduced. Which obviously everyone knows all the issues with how that turned out, so please don't destroy me after this. And Peace being 6 foot doesn't exactly make him a smurf. I will agree with you and everyone else with Miller and Jackson coming in, we don't need a lot of WR, but I didn't expect to need any LB's this year either.

A big reason RR stopped going after Christian Wilson was because CW wanted to play offense. Wilson doesn't fit the RR ball carrier mold, so he let him go somewhere who would let him play O.
