Probably won't happen, but I would really like to see what another year of development with Don Brown and staff would do for this kid (especially working on pass coverage). With just some minor improvement, he could probably have a dominant Heisman run next year. Oh well...
December 7th, 2016 at 12:08 PM ^
But it's his decision to make. I'm trying to envision where he could/would be drafted as a player with no true position and a bit undersized for every spot on the defense except CB.
December 7th, 2016 at 1:54 PM ^
They said Bob Sanders wouldn't be successful due to his height too...
December 7th, 2016 at 2:08 PM ^
Even if Jabrill slips to #10, it's still worth more than $15 million over four years with a lot of it in the signing bonus and three years guaranteed. Why would he risk that kind of money to come back one more year? Harbaugh will tell him he's welcome back, but that he should take the money while it's on the table.
December 8th, 2016 at 8:48 AM ^
It depends on his priorities. The safe move is to take the money if course, but if he wants to be "the best" and prove it before moving on, he might. I'm not sure how important that, or getting championships is for him, but I could see the draw for it for top-level competitors.

The only choice. Congrats Pep!

"he's so overrated...and he's just ok at everything and not great at anything...and he only has 1 interception...and ALL the NFL scouts are wrong suggesting he's a first round pick...and he doesn't deserve the attention he gets...and he wouldn't even start at OSU or Bama..."
All I've been reading this week...but I have a feeling winning a bunch of awards and being a 1st round pick won't make these people smarter.
December 7th, 2016 at 8:48 AM ^
not reading where these people post.
December 7th, 2016 at 9:33 AM ^
does need to return for one more year to refine a couple of skills though. Clearly not ready yet.
December 7th, 2016 at 11:11 AM ^
Totally agree! Still too short to play in the NFL and is more likely to grow a few inches in Ann arbor than the NFL. Another year would do wonders for him
December 7th, 2016 at 11:30 AM ^
Agree with both and he needs one more year to add bulk.

but I do agree that he does need to bulk up a little if he's going to take a shot a playing defense in the NFL. If he's going to be used primarily as a returner and gunner (very valuable positions) he'll need to stay at his current weight.

All that site has is Michigan hatred and kicking the dead horse that is Rutgers. One piece featured one big ten player on each team that's better than peppers. I haven't been back since.
December 7th, 2016 at 10:41 AM ^
does has some pretty funny pieces (the weekly MS Paint and themed power polls are good, imo), but they definitely do have a strong Michigan hate thing going. They have a lot of msu, psu, and msu folks, as well as general Michigan hate. Not sure why - there is no real msu or osu hate, even when msu took a nosedive this year.
I just choose to ignore the self-generated Jabrill/Harbaugh haterism over there and have become a bit more selective in what I read and participate in. Lately, it's been 50/50 for me.

Well done, Paul Hornung award decision making peoples.
December 7th, 2016 at 8:36 AM ^
Well deserved, congrats Mr. Everything!
December 7th, 2016 at 8:39 AM ^
Easy pick. Congrats, Jabrill.
December 7th, 2016 at 12:43 PM ^
can't imagine it was close. Nobody plays close to as many positions...
December 7th, 2016 at 8:42 AM ^
If only he'd come back next fall .......
December 7th, 2016 at 8:44 AM ^
Thanks Jabrill, for making Saturdays fun and exciting. Good luck on Sundays. I know I'll be watching.
December 7th, 2016 at 8:45 AM ^
Yeah, buddy! Well deserved. Tear up the L next year.

About as much of a hassle as this reply was.
Or as much of a hassle as typing a period must have been.

Joins the list of recent winners:
Christian McCaffrey (Stanford)
Shaq Thompson (Washington)
Odell Beckham, Jr. (LSU)
Tavon Austin (WVU)
Brandon Boykin (Georgia)
Owen Marecic (Stanford)

I'm going to miss him so much.
December 7th, 2016 at 8:56 AM ^
Easy choice, couldn't have gone wrong picking him or adoree Jackson. But with peppers having so many roles on defense alone I think this is the right one outright.
December 7th, 2016 at 8:59 AM ^
I'm sure going to miss him.
December 7th, 2016 at 9:01 AM ^
This is proof that sometimes recruiting stars do matter. Recruiting isn't perfect but high star guys tend to become superb players at a much higher rate than other guys. He lived up to the hype every step of the way. What a tremendous talent.
December 7th, 2016 at 9:46 AM ^
"This is proof that sometimes recruiting stars do matter." ?? That's like saying, "Recruiting stars matter. Except when they don't." Congrats to Peppers, an awesome player with great character.
December 7th, 2016 at 10:25 AM ^
are five star players and then there are guys like Peppers and Gary, the cadillacs. Barring injury, these guys are can't miss players. We could use a couple more of them in the years to come.
December 7th, 2016 at 9:06 AM ^
The voters got that one right! Congrats Jabrill!
December 7th, 2016 at 9:07 AM ^
Peppers you need to return next year!
We have unfinished business.
We should start a rally and campaigns.

fun to watch Jabrill Peppers play football with his unique energy and enthusiasm.
December 7th, 2016 at 11:32 AM ^
The punt return against Rutgers is a thing of beauty. He has great instincts. Hope he does well in the NFL.

anthony wright is going to be busy on twitter dealing with all of the OSU and Sparty trolls over peppers winning this award...
December 7th, 2016 at 9:31 AM ^
Peppers is another great player in the Pantheon of Harbaugh players that will go on to the NFL (Next year). Believe that in addition to going to the NFL, having players receive awards will continue to attract the most promising recruits to Michigan.

I mean, it's true that Harbaugh & co. made this kid a star, but you have to give credit to Hoke as a recruiter as well.
December 7th, 2016 at 9:40 AM ^
He was a Michigan fan as a kid, the only person that could have fucked his recruitment up was RR. So, I'll say great job Brady for not fucking it up.

Yeah, this pick seemed like a no-brainer - I would have been shocked if it had been anyone else actually.
I do agree with others, this clearly means that he's almost there but not NFL there, so do come back, Jabrill to hone these skills just a little bit more.
(I'll miss him too, guys)
December 7th, 2016 at 9:55 AM ^
I know it's obvious JP can and should go to the NFL, but do we have any sense of when he's going formally make his decision?

After the bowl game, almost certainly. No reason to do it before. Doing it before sends the impression that you've mentally checked out.

Care to come back and make it a repeat next year, Peppers?

I'd actually would like to see him go in the middle(ish) of the 1st round so he doesn't get stuck on a totally terrible team.
