I'd say number 2 is less likely than 5. He's obviously not the offensive MVP but when he is out on offense it's hard to say there is a better player out there than him. I didn't vote for him for either though, just saying there could be an argument made at most of those 15 items.

I don't think he was used great though. I would have thought he'd be in the slot running quick routes and screens more than he did.

My main thing is that he is incredible and was a difference maker at nearly every position, all year.

Team MVP: Peppers

Offensive MVP: Darboh

Defensive MVP: Peppers

Special Teams MVP: Peppers

Best Offensive Player: Butt

Best Defensive Player: Lewis

Most Improved Player: Gedeon

Freshman of the Year: Evans

Coordinator/Position Coach of the Year: Partridge

Most Underrated Player of 2016: Hurst

Favorite Offesnive Player of 2016: McDoom

Favorite Defensive Player of 2016: Lewis

Play/Highlight of the Year: Lewis interception vs WI

Game of the Year: The Game

Favorite Moment of the Year: watching our players support each other and look like an actual team. This is highlighted by the severe injuries to Newsome and Clark, but also highlighted by how they treated Larry Prout Jr. Harbaugh is creating an adult family like atmosphere through his personality and competitiveness. I think this year we finally saw that culture change we were all hoping for.

Forgot about Bredeson. I think he played every single offensive snap after Newsome went down, and split snaps before that. The fact that he wasnt in the forefront of my mind despite playing more (by far) than any other freshman is remarkable. He's my freshman of the year.

Team MVP: Jabrill Peppers 2. Offensive MVP: Wilton Speight 3. Defensive MVP: Jabrill Peppers 4. Special Teams MVP: Jabrill Peppers 5. Best Offensive Player: Hammerin' Panda 6. Best Defensive Player: Jabrill Peppers (this is probably the hardest pick for me) 7. Most Improved Player: Amara Darboh probably 8. Freshman of the Year: Chris Evans 9. Coordinator/Position Coach of the Year: Don Brown 10. Most Underrated Player of 2016: Wilton Speight probably but I think people expected sooo much out of Jabrill that when his numbers weren't astronomical they said "he's all hype." When in actuality he was amazing all year. 11. Favorite Offesnive Player of 2016: Kekoa Crawford, reminds me of a taller Jeremy Gallon. 12. Favorite Defensive Player of 2016: Taco Charlton (again, picking my favorite or best defensive player is pretty tough, could be Wormley, Lewis, Hurst, Peppers, Gary, etc.) 13. Play/Highlight of the Year: Jabrill's return vs Rutgers 14. Game of the Year: beating our rivals MSU and Rutgers 15. Favorite Moment of the Year: Hasn't happened yet but it's when Jabrill hoists the Heisman.

While he was a productive returner and LB (sometimes). There really wasn't anything he did that was so valuable to the team during conference play that we couldn't have won without him. Lewis, on the other hand, was instramental in making our defense as good as it is. The kid locked down one side of the field on his own usually. Take him out of the equation and the entire complexion of the defense changes. As far a Peppers goes, I actually noticed teams starting to call run plays directly towards him and attempt to matchup some of their faster slot receivers with him. I'm sure this will sound unpopular but Jabrill was kind of a liability in run defense and coverage.

---Should be the Pepcat sweep left, quick pitch reverse to Speight short TD pass to Perry on the right side who pretends to crack block on the backside run and then jets out to the sideline when Speight gets the pitch. WE SET THIS PLAY UP ALL YEAR AND NEVER RAN IT!!!

MVP - Jabrill Peppers (Did nothing particularly amazing, except for select punt returns, but makes an impact too many places to be denied this award.

Offensive MVP - Wilton Speight (Issues toward the end, but O'Korn's one game made me understand)

Defensive MVP - Jordan Lewis (You can't throw at him, period)

Special Teams MVP - Jabrill Peppers (Made some explosive plays and teams largely stopped kicking to him, had the frustrating habit of calling for fair catches when running room was present)

Best Offensive Player - Jake Butt (Big things at the next level)

Best Defensive Player - Taco Charlton - (Made himself some money this year, was the edge rusher that we thought Frank Clark was going to be a couple of years ago).

Most improve Player - Channing Stribbling (knew he was good, but did not know he was good-good).

Freshman of the Year - Rashan Gary  - (ooh boy, can't wait until next year)

Coordinator/Position Coach of the Year - Don Brown (OSU needed big time help to score any points against the D until they wore down.  He proved to be the real deal).

Most underrated player of 2016 - Chase Winovich - (I like the way he plays, a couple of overly aggresive personal fouls but he seems to be all of the place in a Jake Ryan kind of way, I know different positions, he just seemed to create havoc).

Favorite offensive player of 2016 - Grant Newsome (full and speedy recovery please, because he looked like the beginning of the dominant offensive line that we want, I think his injury is the single biggest reason that this team did not quite become the team we thought it could be)

Favorite defensive player of 2016 - Maurice Hurst (Get in my belly is just too good).

Play-Highlight of the Year - The bomb to Darboh against Wisconsin - (If just one of those hits against Iowa we are in the Playoff).

Game of the Year - Wisconsin at Michigan (Obviously The Game, but right now it is just too soon and too painful.  This is a lot like the 2006 game or the Webber timeout.  It will be a while before I watch that game).

Extra Category - Most frustrating players - Delano Hill - (Exceptional play for long stretches mixed with debilitating mistakes, good player, not boring enough).     Jehu Chesson - (what happened brah?)

I got it now.  Still haven't thought of it before that way, really.  Valuable implies positive attributes, like we would have been that much worse without this player, without consideration of the players negative moments or features.  At least that is how I have always thought about it.

December 6th, 2016 at 9:51 AM ^

  1. Team MVP: Peppers (for his seeming sparks in momentum as much as anything)

  2. Offensive MVP: Speight (but the Iowa game makes this a small margin)

  3. Defensive MVP: Peppers (based on plays he took away from opposing offenses, allowing his teammates to shine against more predictable looks)

  4. Special Teams MVP: Peppers (hidden safe catch yardage especially important)

  5. Best Offensive Player: Darboh (big catches despite late drops, great blocking)

  6. Best Defensive Player: Glasgow (we may miss him even more than Peppers on defense next year - Winovich/Gary will hold down the ends, but not sure Mone will be as reliable as Glasgow)

  7. Most Improved Player: Gedeon (went from concern to strength in an offseason!)

  8. Freshman of the Year: Gary (Evans was great, but I think Gary's production wasn't far behind and showed more potential)

  9. Coordinator/Position Coach of the Year: Partridge/Zordich (Partridge's group exceeded expectations with new starters; Zordich mentored a new staff member and raised expectations for an already great secondary)

  10. Most Underrated Player of 2016: Stribling (despite issues in run support, the ability to trust even the second corner on man coverage is huge)

  11. Favorite Offensive Player of 2016: Speight (love his poise as a first-year starter)

  12. Favorite Defensive Player of 2016: Wormley/Glasgow (mature perspective in press conferences and solid, attacking play)

  13. Play/Highlight of the Year: Speight to Darboh for the game winner against Wisconsin (great way to take command of an incredibly well played game; showed the offense had enough spark to keep the season special)

  14. Game of the Year: Wisconsin (U-M took UW's absolute best shot and matched it in a non-rivarly game (I can't say The Game due to frustration with officiating))

  15. Favorite Moment of the Year: Seeing evidence that Don Brown's defense can check Urban Meyer's offense...disappointing result this year, but bodes well for the future

...can't believe I didn't have Butt anywhere!

  1. Team MVP: Wilton Speight - Was miles ahead of where many of thought he would be this year. Wasn't always spectacular in the first six weeks, but then became a total difference-maker. The last 3 games showed just how much this offense needed a healthy Speight. Runner up: Peppers.

  2. Offensive MVP: Wilton Speight - see above. Runner up: Amara Darboh.

  3. Defensive MVP: Jabrill Peppers - As much as Buckeye and Sparty fans will tell you he's overrated, he completely changed what offenses could do and did all year long. At just over 200 pounds he finished 3rd in the conference in TFLs, which is  crazy. Defensive mastermind Don Brown built this defense around him and he was always in the mind of opposing OCs and quarterbacks. Runner up: Taco Charlton.

  4. Special Teams MVP: Jabrill Peppers - obviously electric return-man, but an under-appreciated aspect of his game is how many yards he has saved us by making long runs to fair-catch a ball or fielding a ball to only gain a few yards, that otherwise would have rolled 10 or 20 more yards for the other team. Runner up: Jordan Glasgow? Kenny Allen?

  5. Best Offensive Player: Wilton Speight.

  6. Best Defensive Player: Jabrill/Jourdan Lewis/Taco - you could convince me on all three. Take the scariest athlete or the best cover corner or the best pass rusher in the conference. You pick.

  7. Most Improved Player: Ben Gedeon - went from "can't beat out Joe Bolden" to one of the best linebackers in the conference. Had a stellar year and probably got himself into the NFL draft. This defense would have been a notch worse without his improvement. Runner up: Amara Darboh.

  8. Freshman of the Year: Chris Evans - am excited. Runner up: Devin Asiasi.

  9. Coordinator/Position Coach of the Year: Don Brown - obviously for the defense as a whole, but even more so for what he did with our linebackers that we previously thought were a liability. Runner up: Chris Partridge (LBs).

  10. Most Underrated Player of 2016: Delano Hill - never gets much talk but was really, really solid all year. Runner up: Ryan "Young Toothless" Glasgow, king of underratedness.

  11. Favorite Offensive Player of 2016: Wilton Speight.

  12. Favorite Defensive Player of 2016: Taco Charlton.

  13. Play/Highlight of the Year: Jabrill's sack against Colorado or Speight to Darboh winning TD against Wisconsin.

  14. Game of the Year: 10/1 vs. Wisconsin.

  15. Favorite Moment of the Year: Halftime against Ohio State - maybe a weird moment here, but when I processed that we were winning at halftime in Columbus (despite throwing a pick-six) and that our defense had held them to less than 90 yards in the first half, I knew we were really back as a top 5 program nationally. No the game didn't end up in our favor, if for a bunch of crappy reasons. However, we outplayed OSU in their house for 3 quarters and dominated the first half. We should have won this game, but this showed me that Harbaugh's transformation is now complete. The ability and attitude are better here now than they have been for maybe 30 years, definitely at their highest since 1997.

1. Team MVP: Jabrill

2. Offensive MVP: Wilton. We saw how bad the offense struggled without him in there and until his injury, he was making the "Rudock jump" as far as progression.

3. Defensive MVP: Jabrill

4. Special Teams MVP: Kenny Allen. Outside of the Wisconsin game, he was a model of consistency in all 3 phases. Made some very big FGs at crucial times.

5. Best Offensive Player: Jake Butt

6. Best Defensive Player: Jourdan Lewis

7. Most Improved Player: Channing Stribling

8. Freshman of the Year: Chris Evans

9. Coordinator/Position Coach of the Year: Tyrone Wheatley. To have 4-5 viable running threats is a testament to his coaching.

10. Most Underrated Player of 2016: Grant Perry. The offense seems to be much more efficient when he has a good game.

11. Favorite Offensive Player of 2016: Jake Butt

12. Favorite Defensive Player of 2016: Jabrill

13. Play/Highlight of the Year: Jourdan Lewis INT vs Wisconsin. Watched the play on my phone from an airplane on the way to my cousins funeral.

14. Game of the Year: MSU. Despite what they became (record wise) it was nice to go into their house and beat them despite playing one of our worst games of the year.

15. Favorite Moment of the Year: Jabrill's punt return vs Colorado

Few picks:
Speight for offensive MVP and most improved
- he only played a bit in 2015 but was at a high level the whole year in 2016. This was highlighted by the qb play during IU game.

Rutgers as game of year. Weak opponent but have not seen a Michigan team dominate in all phases in my memory.

It was so beautiful up there in row 93, the lights made the soft snowflakes shine and shine  My nephew came up from Texas to see it, a sustained offensive drive (even though scoreless), everyone was in such a good mood - cheerleaders making snow angels, snow coming down so fast they had to do it multiple times.

And then the players bellyflopping through the snow ;)

in an incredibly unorganized list, 1-7 minus opoy goes to jabrill. opoy goes to Darboh. 8 Evans, 9 Brown, 10 Khalid Hill, 11 Butt, 12 Peppers, 13 Lewis game winning int, 14 is a subject I'd prefer to not talk about and 15 is peppers 2 pt vs msu. And Deveon Smith deserves something so he wins the Deveon Smith award.

Team MVP: Jabrill Peppers.  Did so many things in so many area, plus the whole Heisman Finalist thing.  (Duh!)

Offensive MVP: Wilton Speightlisberger. ijohnb pointed out he wasn't perfect, but the drop off to O'Korn was a lot steeper than we thought.  True that.

Defensive MVP: Jourdan Lewis.  Similarly, look at the secondary without him the first three games.

Special Teams MVP: Kenny Allen.  The only way he could have done anything more on ST would either be returning kicks, or playing on the hands team for onside attempts.

Best Offensive Player: Jake Butt.  Where is he expected to get drafted?  It speaks for itself.

Best Defensive Player: Peppers.  Ditto.

Most Improved Player:  Mike McCray/Ben Gedeon.  The ILBs were substantially better than the 2015 senior, returning starters they replaced.

Freshman of the Year: Chris Evans.  His presence on the field changed the threat the offense presented, more so than anyone except Peppers.

Asst Coach of the Year: Jay Harbaugh.  The depth of the blocky-catchy guys was unbelievable.  With all his tools, Ty Wheatly barely got any playing time.

Most Underrated Player: Channing Stribling. Given that Lewis was the alternative, he was targeted regularly and came up large.  A legit pro prospect.

Favorite Offensive Player: Deveon Smith.  Loved it when he ran angry.

Favorite Defensive Player: Taco Charlton.  Instant edge pressure.

Play/Highlight of the Year: The Wisconsin game-Speight to Darboh TD.  Iced a very difficult game when ST had a bad day.

Game of the Year: Colorado.  Took several punches right in the mouth, and came back to win decisively against a team that was way better than we thought.

Favorite Moment: the whole season prior to November 6th.  The rest of it was total ass.
