OT: Would you EVER marry a buckeye?

Submitted by WichitanWolverine on

The question can't get any simpler: would you or would you not ever, under any circumstances, marry a bucknut?

---MGoWarning----

The following comes from a very inebriated, very close-minded Wolverine.

Personally, no, I could not. Being as objective as possible, I could never see myself marrying a Buckeye. If I found out that the love of my life was a Buckeye, then maybe I could. But I do not see myself ever engaging in an intimate relationship with a Buckeye, knowing that she was one beforehand.

I don't normally promote prejudice, racism, or hatred toward any group of people, but I, honestly, feel nothing other than sheer hatred towards anything or anyone associated with the OSU community.

Again, I am shitfaced, but I am who I am. My parents met at the U (of M, we are over 100 years older than Miami so we are IMO the rightful owners of "The U") so without it, I wouldn't be alive.

HAIL!

Not a problem I have to worry about, my wife went to Albion. She did her grad time at Michigan State, but she shows no alliance to the Spartans. I've got her converted, she was with me at the Joe last night sporting her Maize and telling Reichard, "You suck!".

My girlfriend's dad did his undergrad at State. He then did UofM dental school. When we get him drunk all he does is talk about how he nearly flunked out of UofM but coasted through MSU. When he gets REALLY loaded he continues to talk about how big of "cocksuckers" all Spartans are. he's made his other daughter (my gf's sister, a Spartan) cry a few times over it.
The guy is basically ashamed that he did his undergrad at MSU. Listening to his rants is one of the best ways to spend your drinking time.

Sickness is in the vows right? I mean if being a Buckeye isn't a sickness I don't know what is... Also women try to change us all the time. Maybe the challenge of converting could be fun. Plus after this season we'll get back to competing with them and I could come up with some pretty creative bets.

Let's turn the question around: What if you met a wonderful woman, beautiful, sexy, fun to be with, and the two of you just click in every way. The only thing are not in synch with is where you went to university. Somehow, I think you might find a way to have fun with it and deal with her father and brothers who are good people until it comes to university sports. You could deal with their insufferable buckey-ness because she is the woman made for you. You will live happily ever after (except for the last Saturday in November).

Obviously you have not been reading any of the PUMP UP posts. Starting next season, we are going to be a MACHINE (with lazers attached to our helmets of course), Bo will be reincarnated, and we will not lose a game EVER AGAIN!

a couple of years before I got married. she was 5' 11, a doctor, blode hair, blue eyes , stunningly beautiful , and great personality.33 y/o ,no children, and funny everything was going great until we got on the subject of fandom. she went to med school at osu so I asked her if we had children would we raise our children to be buckeyes or wolverines? she said no kid of mine would ever be a wolverine and at that moment I broke up with her because that statement proved she was unfit to be a parent.

Post on these circle-jerk threads that sends an already unbelievable amount of posts (yes. Message Board Guy has soooo many choices when it comes to women) over the top.

You sir, have raised the Bullshit Meter to a point where it has exploded.

She didn't go to MSU. She went to Western but she grew up in the East Lansing area and her father went to MSU which, in many ways, is worse. Her father and I get along fine but our conversation usually progresses towards U of M and MSU sports. My wife tenses up every time as we often toe the fine line between innocent banter and spiteful debate.

She is a big enough fan as to where it's slightly annoying when Michigan plays MSU, especially these past couple of years. On the plus side, she has absolutely no desire to go to U of M games with me. I will argue that this fact is reason alone to marry the enemy, my friends.

I also dated an ND fan the summer before I went to U of M. Her father was an ND grad and she ended up going to St. Marys. We broke up before football season so who knows how that would have played out.

Never done OSU. It's easy to say that you'd never have a relationship with an OSU fan, but you just never know how the cards will fall.

She started grad school there, because it was good in her program, and that's where I met her. But she hated it there, and left to get her doctorate at Kentucky. She said about MSU "all they want to do is drink". So I guess it's what Bo said about the players in Ohio who leave...only the good ones.

Is why you'd marry a buckeye and not, say, an almond? Or perhaps a hazelnut? I mean, eating an almond or hazelnut is enjoyable. Buckeyes aren't edible.

Silly, silly, WichitanWolverine.

I am indeed married to a Buckeye. An actual alumnus, who after the 2007 game traded in her Buckeye gear for Michigan gear due to the actions of her former Buckeye fans.

when you grow up knowing one thing and are introduced to something else, you have an opportunity to make a choice. It was clear to her which way to go after seeing both sides.

Love knows no school loyalty, thank God.

I would certainly call it a huge win for the Wolverines in this match up.

Yes, I married a buckeye. I was born and raised in Ohio as a Michigan fan.... you really didn't have much of a choice. She went to osu for 2 years, come from an all buckeye family, and her and her sister actually hold the Guiness World Record for the longest buckeye necklace made, unfortunately. On top of our wedding cake was Wolverine and a buckeye helmet.

However, I'm happy to admit that she has convert to Michigan. After several fights she has finally realized the game is more important to me than herself. Last year we attended 4 Wolverine games and she tells people we are now a Michigan family.

So, if you can convert them, by all means.... one less buckeye in the world makes it a better place.

Good old game theory...

That's crazy but awesome. I don't know, maybe I like fighting, but i wouldn't mind if my wife had gone to OSU. Maybe it would lead to great balance in the relationships. I don't think it'd be weird to argue with your wife about a playcall, but i think it'd also be pretty funny.

To me marrying a suckeye would be like marrying a girl who practices a different religion w/ totally different beliefs. Expecially if you both considered yourselves to be religious. For example; you're Catholic and she's Mormon. Where do you go on Sunday? What do you teach your kids? Who's right and who's wrong? It'll just end up costing you time and money a few years down the road in an ugly divorce. Trust me fellas, you can choose who you love. So do yourselves a favor, marry a true Blue fan.

My uncle married a woman whose entire family (6 brothers and sisters, parents, grandparents, yadda yadda) went to OSU, except her. My family has Michigan alums from 1905 onward, and the non-alums are huge UM fans too.

...It was an interesting wedding.

Also, the kids are being raised Michigan fans because they are geographically closer to my uncle's side of the family. My aunt is a really sweet person who just happened to be raised in a rabid OSU household; not so much a rabid fan herself.

I would much rather marry an obnoxious Buckeye than an obnoxious Spartan. At least you know she is rooting for her team, not strictly against yours.

Having a wife who roots for you to fail could turn into bigger things down the road. Take the Buckeye. At least she gives a shit about her own.

I have to co-sign on that one. I can respect Buckeyes (begrudgingly) because they are at least cheering for themselves to win more than for UM to lose, (though I admit there are a fair number who do both). Spartans, however, seem pathologically focused on seeing UM come up short, no matter what the circumstance. That's a sign of no pride in oneself. I don't have any respect for an institution or individual who doesn't have any pride.

I hate Ohio State as much as the next guy, and I am very passionate about my sports, but at the end of the day, real life still takes priority, and my choice of spouse is included with that.

That is assuming, however, that she is a civilized Buckeye (Insert oxymoron joke here). She can be a big OSU fan, but she can't be a redneck. That's kind of a given though, because I wouldn't marry anybody from any school that acts like far too many Buckeyes tend to.

I actually know a couple of Buckeyes that I get along quite well with. They're good for talking sports with and having the rivalry with, less riots and car-turning. If I found a girl that fell into that category and met my other desires for a wife, I would not decline to marry her because of her school affiliation.

I would probably not, however, go through with my currently planned engagement idea, which may or may not involve a football game... *cough*

Well, it's not like there are slim pickings at UM...

My wife is a UM graduate, but if she had graduated from any number of other schools I would have been fine. The issue tends to be with the attitude of the alumni, not the actual individual - there are quite a few UM people I could never see myself marrying in a million years because of their attitude, while I have met some great Spartans and Buckeyes who would make great spouses because they are down-to-earth, nice people.

(wife walks in)

That said, UM girls rock!

WichitanWolverine

I hate to admit it but there are comparatively few hot girls at UofM. My GF went there, and I got lucky snagging one of the few hot ones, but on the whole they are not nearly as hot as girls at MSU, Western, Central. I've never been to OSU so I can't fairly make that comparison but when it comes to looks alone I think Michigan comes up short. This is based on looks alone, though.

aaamichfan

March 20th, 2010 at 1:41 PM ^

comparatively there are many more nerds at UofM than those other schools. The hot girls at UofM are definitely attainable for any guy who isn't socially inept.

Also, because UofM girls aren't into the whole "tanning every day" fad, they don't usually look like crispy garbage upon graduation.

Overall, great girl. Attractive, but not entirely smart with world events. Her fandom is really not that intense. She hates Michigan because that is what she was suppose to do at OSU. She even admits that OSU, despite their recent success, still envy Michigan in its entirety. Overall, her fandom is not that annoying.

With that, I still don't know if I will marry her because she is a Buckeye.

Get the urge to punch a random dude wearing OSU gear... I of course do so very successfully in my mind... So I guess what better way to punish an OSU woman than making her deal with all my nastiness. I can be pretty gross.

Always ask on your 1st date(getting to know them) "Would we raise kids Buckeyes or Wolverines?"
If they were to say "Buckeyes" leave.
If they were to say "I don't care." Make your kid a Wolverine fan at the earliest stage, so they don't get the bandwaggoner OSU disease.

you caught me before I could edit out my sleep-deprived-don't-want-to-be-at-work-right-now bitchiness.

but I admit, I seriously think my uncle would've called off his engagement if he found out his wife wanted to raise their kids Buckeyes like the rest of her family.

For me, that'd be a deal breaker! I know, its a little juvenile but Michigan football has been, is, and always will be a HUGE part of my life. Its my passion! Im like jimmy fallon in Fever Pitch! So i can't imagine my wife not being on my side. Its a deal breaker. Go blue!
